Black Chemists Create New Hair Care Line: “Tea And Honey Blends”

When it comes to black hair care products, women of color are rarely faithful to one line. The dilemma can lead to overwhelmed bathroom cabinets for many women but also aid a vast open market market for hair care manufacturers.

That’s what Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy and Dr. Tiffani Bailey Lash are counting on. In December 2009 they launched Tea and Honey Blends, a new hair care line specifically for women of color. As chemists with an interest in cosmetology, they took a scientific approach to solving the commitment quandary and asked themselves before creating the products ‘what would make this the last hair care product I would ever buy?’

    Just what we need more shyt to help black women achieve that fake white style look besides the burning hotcomb and stinky chemicals, Women of color look better with some curl. That straight no life dead looking white style don’t fit your texture. You black women are soo fake white lookin we men figure why get a hate herself fake white lookin woman when we may as well get a real white woman (your fault) What kind of message you sending to the little girls of color looking for role models? What? You not “pretty” till you achieve a fake white girl look? Women of color natural are more fun They not always checkin that fake white look in the mirror… Find your own idenitity white people know you jealous of white womans hair thats why they snicker at you not with you. Stop copying other races to be “pretty” Thats why Naomi Cambell is losing her real hair. We love all beautiful natural women of color, And pretnd to like fake white styled black funny looking wanna be white girls. Remember water is not your friend wile being fake white! BOZO the clown looking bishes.

    Interesting. I’m a little groggy, but from the looks of the site there weren’t any kinds of “creamy crack” relaxers listed that I could see. The products look and sound nice…but I’m concerned that they don’t list the ingredients (do any of them actually even have “tea and honey” in them??). I’d like to know just how “natural” their stuff is before I try them on my dreads. And it would also be nice to see them have a couple other pics of sistahs with different styles (like one with dreads and one with a ‘fro or natural curls) on the home page than just the one with the relaxed/straight hair look.

    I’m definitely curious. Is it really possible another line is taking a more natural, caring path towards our hair — a la Oyin Handmade and Carol’s Daughter, etc. — and creating healthful, gentle products instead of perpetuating the pattern of chemical damage and breakage that just keeps some sistahs stuck and running back for more???
