i havent been to church since my mother stop making me go in the early 80s the black church is about the singing and entertainment hell most of the women in the church have kids out of wedlock and the church doesnt saying anything about that because it could hurt the collection plate on sunday.

Just like Generation Y in general doesn’t see the need for marriage, strong families or commitment to one life partner or viewing divorce as a national pastime, or political involvement or knowledge of their own history as a waste of time, why should this be any different?

I wasn’t raised in the church or made to go as a child, but as I got older I felt something was missing in my life. Once I found and began to build my own personal relationship with the Lord, he brought ppl into my life and guided me to the place that is now my church home. Not every church you walk into is the church that God wants you to be a member or part of because not every church is doing God’s work; which is bringing His children, His ppl to Him. Many churches, along with leadership are out to get rich off believers. Others use God’s word to belittle ppl, which can make them feel they aren’t worth of God’s love, when that isn’t tru. God gives mercy and grace to all of us constantly, and His Son on behalf our sins that we might be able to obtain forgiveness, if we just ask and be willing to change. The Word of God, does offend because Gods Word sets a standard for how we are suppose to live, but God knows we are not perfect. He doesnt expect perfection, just a pure heart and faith in His Word and the promise of what He says He will do,as well as in the power that He alone has to do ALL things. Pastors and other leadership are doing what God has called them to do, minister His Word to the spirit of the broken, the lonely, the sick, afflicted and whoever else believes in Him. They should not be judging or condemning folks for the person they have been before coming into God’s Word but feeding them based on the Word, that change comes through conviction and knowledge from the book of Life.

The same way these young ppl shop around for the right oufits and the latest gadgets and phones, is the same way they have to shop around for a church family. They also have to take it to God in prayer. He knows the secret desires of our hearts, but sometimes it’s still good to open your mouth and ask.

This is no surprise though. The enemy, most commonly referred to as Satan, is working overtime to occupy the minds and time of ppl, to keep them from seeking, finding and building a relationship with God. Satan wants to take as many souls with him to hell as he can. I choose to live though, and I will be praying that these young ppl recognize they are God’s children and find their way back onto the path of life. Amen.

Why is it that some want God to conform to their changing tastes, rather than God demand they remain steadfast and true to Him? Just because the clock ticks second after second, minute after minute, year after year, and so on, does not mean God changes. Ask yourself in which second over the last thousands of years did God change? So if He has not changed at any point in time, why does He have to conform to man’s changing moods and trends?

This article is about three concepts that seem to get confused by the author: (1) Rejecting the need to go to church, (2) Rejecting the definition of sin in the Bible, and (3) Misunderstanding of the role of women in the church.

Point 1: If you feel going to a church building is boring, old fashioned, not in step with today’s new morality, then why not at least watch Christian programs on TV or visit a number of Christian websites? Its easier to criticize the people in the Church, but if you’re so knowledgeable about “modern” wisdom, then why not go and show them what a wise human is?

Point 2: Ask yourself why your inner person is bothered by what God calls a sin. Is it that you want to be perceived as accepting and “liberated” by your peers? I think its better to be your own person and take a stand. There is nothing old fashioned about what God has defined as rebellion against Him. He does not change because we want to be accepted by our peers who might engage in sin.

Point 3: There’s nothing in the Bible that says women cannot be CEOs of major corporations, president or prime minister of country, or coach of a male sports team. But when it specifically comes to the church and the home, there is a reason why God created male and female. But if you reject Jesus Christ (Husband) and the Church (Wife), then you will hit a roadblock and be spiritually blind to this eternal truth. The Apostle Paul spoke out about women heading the church because Jesus Christ (the male) ministers to the Church (the female) – not the other way around. This in no way implies that women are inferior at all. It is a spiritual symbolism. By being modest in the Church, women are in effect ministering the revelation of the role of the Church relative to Jesus Christ. Recall that Jesus washed the feet of the Church (at that time, His apostles). This act showed humbling Himself for Her, serving Her needs from a very lowly position. Jesus leadership is opposite of the world’s leadership, which dictates being a dictatorial overlord to lowly subjects.

In any case, I don’t always buy off on published social statistics as the topics are usually way too subjective to be useful.

i agree that church nowadays is a form of entertainment and that the younger generation is turning away from practices that establish cohesiveness and pride in our community.

But what i also see is a culture in which children and young people are not highly regarded as valuable members of the society. We live in a culture that is about power, profit and politics. Where does the spiritual well-being of ANYONE fit into this? Institutionalized religion has nothing to do with providing anyone with spiritual nourishment. Religion, as we know it, is primarily about controlling the minds and behavior of the masses. T.v. and technology is taking on that function now so it makes perfect sense that the younger generation is not interested in going to church.

god has to change and conform with us because we are made in his image…and we do change and conform….we are not living in ancient days anymore. when the demons say they wanted to go into the pigs jesus conformed with them…he didnt say no am gonna do it my way. the demons went into the pigs and the pigs went over the cliff. god conformed to us by sending his only son because men were loosing the word. the word actually changed from old testament to new testament. we no longer sacrifice animals….we pray. yes god has to conform to us. and there are tons of religious applications for phones and there are radio stations and there are tv stations that blesses us every sunday morning with the word. you dont have to go to church and i dont blame my generation because jesus told his followers to be fishermen of men….so basicaly we dont have enough smart fishermen of men aka followers of god who are supposed to catch sinners in their dragnets aka deciples…if they were realy skilled fishermen they wouldnt have to worry about how we worship but rather how to get us to worship. jesus never forced anyone to listen to his word so this shouldnt even be a topic…if the churches werent so phony they would have more christians. the only rule i follow in the bible is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. if everyone follow this rule we be all good. deuces

The problem with the current situation is that a lot of the preachers or pastors are in the church because they couldn’t do anything else…

There are some very interesting preachers and priests who lecture on science, mathematics, physics, biology, law finance, etc and are actually more of an inspiration because they relate contemporary issues with religious laws rather than beating people over the head with the Bible…

There’s actually an order of monks where each member is an expert in sciences, mathematics, law, economics, etc and are geniuses in their own right and actually live within the community and are more of an inspiration than many of the clergy that live away and far from their communities…

There you have it. I think that’s probably what this article means. Nothing wrong with religion and practicing faith, but it MUST be heightened to encourage and relate to the minds of the young people today.

Had this been the case when I was growing up, I might very well have an entirely different outlook on religion, because I love to LEARN, never liked being BRAINWASHED.

I think Generation Y still believes in God, but they are challenging how he manifests as GOD. I think they are questioning the whole concept of white man with a beard, dwelling in the heavens – meting out reward and punishment like some sort of exaggerated embodiment of Santa Claus. They are on an expedition, searching for the answer to WHO IS GOD? Many believe that there is a higher power – an OMNIPOTENT, OMNISCIOUS, OMNIPRESENT Infinite Creator, but instead of simply adopting the tenets of Christianity taught to them as children, they are exploring other denominations’ belief systems, reading other sacred books besides the bible, and opening up their minds to find TRUTH.

as a part of generation Y and speaking for myself, i haven’t abandoned the black church exactly. it’s just that i’ve seen it change for the worse. going to church now is like going to a fashion show, people are always judging each other by their clothes and their hairstyles. not only that, so-called “christians” are acting so holier-than-thou lately, i just don’t want to be a part of it. when i go to church, i want to be truly accepted and not being judged the very second i step in just because of my clothes or how i think of certain things.

Every church is not your spiritual home and every church does not truly serve God. I know of churches that “are with the times” and current in issues but still ask that you look to the Bible for answers. Some people are searching and they believe that the answer lies in a personal and intimate relationship with God, not just giving face time every Sunday.

I can’t lie and say I do go to church every Sunday, I don’t necessarily subscribe to religion either.However, I do believe in having a connection to God that serves you in your everyday life.

Church is like a football team that won the super bowel their motto becomes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. After several years of losing they sit down and evaluate things they say. People what r we not doing we’ve built a new stadium, got new uniforms, new players what is it. All of a sudden sum one stand up and shout but ur still calling the same plays. Think about it!

I am a church kid…and the daughter of an evangelist. I have been is church all my life. But during my more rebellious years (which were strange enough from 19-30) I stopped going to church…I stopped singing in the choir. I still had faith..just none in the church folks who talked about me and always tried to make me feel like I wasn’t worthy of God’s grace. Well…it took oddly enough a lesbian stripper to get me to go back to church and rededicate my life back to the Creator. I have been in His service since then. I serve at a local church..but I don’t get off into the whole church is my life thing…The word of my pastor never supercedes the word of my husband, who is the true spiritual leader of our house. Church isn’t ready for the hip hop generation.

It seems to me a lot of people have a problem with the “church”. I am here to tell you “church” is not the problem. You are! Faith at its core is confidence in something, anything. You gotta have faith your man will not cheat on you or you will need to follow him all day. You gotta have faith when you send your babies on the school bus they will return to you unharmed. Fear is the lack of faith. Now, when you have faith and peace combined then you have grace. Once you have all these things you have no worries and when you have no worries you thank GOD. Because it is all the things you cant control anyways that you need to turn over to something be it an addiction or God. Might as well be God.

That’s because for some reason people think that “God” and “church” are interchangeable. They are NOT. But I guess it’s this generation. I don’t go to church every single Sunday.But I ABSOLUTELY believe in God and His power to heal and help. But nowadays people believe more in “themselves” and dismiss God as either “an invention of the “white man”,”ineffective”ie;where was God during slavery?(forgetting that the Israelites were slaves also)or just not believing there is a God. It’s sad because I can tell you that all the times in my life where I thought my lucks ran out somehow I was pulled through. I remember the time when I was out of work and my wife couldn’t keep up the bills by herself. We had to go to court and got evicted. We had to get out within 7 days. Nobody could help and we had nowhere to turn. I was ready to curse God myself but then thought about Job and said to myself “What Satan meant for evil,God means for good”. Wouldn’t you know we got another place to live that SAME day and still had to move our stuff out. Even that wasn’t a hassle. Because the place where we ended up living was right BEHIND our OLD house. I could see the old house just by looking out of the new homes bedroom window. I know some of you will say it’s “luck” or whatever,that your opinion. But I know in my heart what it is. And trust me I am NOT a “religious” person. To me that signifies a clique or “sect”. I believe in God and His Son,Jesus Christ. I am FAR from perfect.Lol! But I’m getting there.

When you’re young you accept anything and question everything.

I live in Tennessee. People are becoming ministers and preacher to reap the benefits. They are not being “called” to preach. Some do it because the want to be involved in politics, others do to help get influence in the work place. Some do it for sex. I know some of the biggest spiritual pimps in the city. A lot of people use the church to gain advantages in life. Catholic churches aren’t the only churches where children are sexually molested. My church kicked me out because I cursed out the gay choir director who made it clear in church that he wanted a piece of my @ss. I was in high school at the time and I was the oldest “child of the church”. Rather than kick him out for trying to sexually abuse a child they let him stay and attempt to abuse another persons child. The elders in the church made this decision and they decided that it was ok to molest or abuse the children in the church. The church is also in turmoil right not because of the elders choice of pastor. They would rather have someone with a title, “Dr. so and so”, as opposed to actually having someone who is led by God. A lot of elders, not just in church but period, treat children like they are stupid and don’t know anything. Children cannot be heard by adults nowadays. That’s why we don’t go to church. People don’t respect children or youth and we are constantly being mistreated, abused and taken advantage of. We cannot get truth from the church anymore. The church is no longer a safe have for children or people in general. My homeboy just got busted for selling dope out of the back of his church. I know plenty of people who have had sex in the church.

The same thing thats in the prisons is the same thing thats in the church pimps,drug addicts,gays,have and have nots plus hypocrites. You put all these type togather ur gonna have a mess. Just like prison evil consumes and seeks to destroy.

I’m convinced when these clowns pass me flyer about joing their churches are ready to f**k with my mind and fleece my pockets….I had enough of that s**t as a child working my ass off getting good grades, but not a scholarship, dealing with turd assed bullies and B-U-T-T-A-F-A-C-E-S beeyotches who rejected me becuase I wans’t good enough(or attractive enough) for their tarty asses…..the last thing I need in my life NOW is ANY corruption from any sources……

If preachers would talk about Psalm 82 and how it goes perfect with John 10 around 33rd verse thru the end of John 10 and how that knowledge goes hand in hand with the information we get from Kemet, they would actually listen because it’s complete honesty.

I think some of the comments are comparing apples to oranges. The article is about this generation going to church; not about faith or the belief in GOD. It is necessary for us to have a relationship with GOD, however, it is not necessary for us to sit up in some of the churches that exist today. The church should be a place where the sick can go and receive healing, however, if the leader is a quack doctor, I would not dare waste my time. Many leaders in today’s society are just like they were in the old testament (Ezekiel 34) when GOD said “Woe to the shepherds” because they feed themselves off of the flock. God said they ate the fat of the flock, which is translated in our day, the leaders became wealthy on the backs of the little mothers who give their monthly social security checks and ration their food for the rest of the month. The leaders purchased 2 plus million dollor homes while those that gave to them foreclosed on their homes. The leaders are driving Bentleys while their members are catching the transit system to get to their churches. GOD said his sheep were scatterd because there really was no shepherd to take care of his sheep (take GOD for Jesus) so he prounced judgement on these leaders. I don’t think the economy tanking was conicidental; it gave many the chance to see how supportive their churches really were. My church at the time, (Mt Zion, Nashville) continued to encourage members to give to Mission One (paying off the building debt) while so many sat in the congregation and loss their homes; It dicussed me so much, I stopped going to that church.
By the way, it is also wise to go back to the old testament and study who the tithes and offerings were really for. It included the priests, widows, fatherless, and homeless. It basically was a storehouse for all of those who were in need. The priest were included because back them they did not have property; now some of them have million dollar properties,(on the backs of the sheep) I wonder if these should continue to be included in the original support system?
I think if we love GOD with all of our heart,soul, and mind, seek him as if it means life or death (it does) to us, and have a true realationship with him, he will guide us to the place we need to be; that includes the place of worship.

after all these years of going to church, I still dont see how church has changed my life accept put me in-denial about myself and make me feel guilty for no damn good reason! I got saved once and it was pure bulls**t! I didnt get the holy ghost dance or nothing! but the congregation still went to KFC and had a good time! like every sunday, wake up, suit and tie, get in the car, grab your bibles, go to sunday school, go to morning service, then afternoon service, then back home for sunday diner!

This Article is really good.. Making your child come to church is not going to make them understand why they should go to church.. It’s important for the parents or parent to talk to the children and help them understand what’s going on. But if the parents don’t understand what’s going on, then eventually they stop going to church and the child realizes that he/she doesn’t have to go anymore either. Its like the more you know, the less you know. What I mean by that is that things being seen and proven proves to be more interesting than faith. I told my pastor this because I lost faith, but found it again in a strange way. That’s how GOD works. I lost faith because school, history, and geology were things that could prove what you thought you knew different. I stopped going to church years ago. My great grandmother used to force me to go and I hated it! Even as a child, I knew something wasn’t right. My pastor was a money hungry, greedy arrogant bastard. And at 6 years old I was the only one that saw this LOL. He was more like a cult leader than a pastor. If you didn’t agree with what he preached, he put you OUT of the church. And you were no longer welcome.

A church member of 35 years was diagnosed with cancer while I attending this church. She was on her death bed and wanted my pastor to come and pray. But because she disagreed with one of his sermons, he refused.

What I don’t understand is since GOD is in the ‘sky’ and can see all, why is he allowing children to be molested and abused in His house? I see ppl have posted they don’t approve of the fashion show in the church, the hypocrites, the judgmental ppl, the molestation, the scheming, the thievery etc. But this so called ‘God’ is ALLOWING THIS TO GO ON IN HIS CHURCH. In his ‘temple’ and if he existed WHY CANT HE PUT A STOP TO IT??? He has all this power right? So why are these ppl, who are supposed to be representatives of the ‘Lord’ allowed to do such horrible and disgusting things and get away with it? Why would you have these ppl teaching your word? One ting that all of our elders, scholars, orators, master teachers and ancestors agreed that for 500 years with European religion(Islam, Judaism, and Christianity)it has given us false hope, false gratitude and false idea. They all conveyed that the original man and woman can only break the shackles of the white supremacist religion is to embrace their ancestors religion. The church is not, has not, and will not tell the truth to its congregation. The sermons and messages are irrelevant to today’s youth (or Generation Y). If we want the people to acheive their goals and what they aspire towards returning back to correct religion then we must proceed with a way of education and refinement in order to give the youth understanding and enlightenment in their religion. Religion is not just propaganda, partisan pledges,singing, dancing, yelling, screaming, ect. This reaps no benifit to the youth or adult. Church was never appealing to me! Knowledge is not the foundation of Christianty today and knowledge preceeds speach and actions. We (the people) need to realize that our purpose in religion is to worship God alone. There are clear signs that this is true. God has sent Messengers to turn people away from worship of servants and back to the worship of Him. i.e. ( Noah, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, & Muhammad pbuh). The youth and adults need to know that Partisanship and association to a group based on beliefs or acts of worship is not authorized in the Bible. i.e.( Methodist, Baptist, Pentacostal, ect. Same for the Muslims this is not authorized in the Quran. i.e. ( Sufis, Raafidah, S**tes, Taliban, and the likes. God had one message and covenant with Adam. But we have become excessive and exeeded the boundaries and regulations set by our Lord the Most High. Until we turn back to the pure worship of God Black Church, White Church, Jew, Hindu, Muslms that involve themselves in terrorism will be lost. I challenge everyone that reads this to do some studying on your religion. I mean some real hardcore studying. Put like a month of studying in. Then read the Quran.

People have to understand that the black chruch isn’t teaching our people the right history of the bible. The bible is a black history book and pastors today aren’t qualify enough to teach. You’re right, we can not SEE an atom, but it is the nucleus/core of all matter. So technically, we can’t see ONE atom, but because physical things are made up of MANY atoms, there is substance to that.

i want to clarify my posistion on the bible. i do think it can be used for sociological aspects and a FICTIONAL literary treasure. i like the story of romeo and juliet, but im not prepared to debate if its a TRUE story. i dont beleive the bibles authenticity or see its value in the black community but its still a good read.

Correction, I never said ‘none of this matters’, I said it’s not my life’s goals to find out WHY everything was ‘created’, how it was and when it’s all going to end.
What do I research? I research facts and history I need in order to do my job properly, I research world history, I research the history of my people to hopefully find truths to pass on to my children as they grow up and learn, to combat the lies that schools teach. I had many anatomy/physiology classes in college, so I researched there as well, I recently looked into ‘eugenics’ and how it has affected black people…I could go on and on. I do A LOT of research of a myriad of different topics.

I have not contradicted my own ‘philosophy’ at all. I didn’t say I never LEARNED anything. You’re trying to mix apples and rocks! LOL. Don’t I still have to live life as it is? I will say I an unwavering atheist, born and raised in a pentecostal baptist household knew early on in life that religion was a sham, I was called every name but a child of god for my skepticism of my religious upbringing. I renounced Christianity in my early teens and joined the 5% Nation, studied the earliest teachings of Elijah Muhammhed, Fard Muhammhed, and Clarence 13X called myself GOD. I became a Sunni Muslim for a few years. I then began getting real knowledge of self studying the origins of religion and trick knowlege reading everything from Dr Yosef Ben-Jochannan, Cheik Anta Diop, Ivan Van Sertima, John Henrike Clark, Frantz Fanon, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing and others.

I can say I have actually read the bible, and read books about the bible the origns of the trinity doctorine implemented by Emperor Constatine, the origins virgin birth myths that predate Jesus thousands of years, flood myths ect… that were stolen by used as part of the christian doctorine.

Most of the time I dont waste my time to comment on the ignorance of most of these relegious folk, If they choose to wallow in ignorance and faith than so be it, just leave me alone for my lack of belief in your imaginary spirits, demons, gods and folklore.

I grew up Baptist however I changed over to non-denominational where the teaching of the word is more powerful. There is no 1 sin greater than the other, whether u r homosexual or u over eat. Although I believe all that the bible teaches because I know, love & have FAITH in God and even though I don’t agree w/homosexuality, I don’t go around telling people who chooses and alternative life style than myself that they are going to hell. I have listened to and soaked up the knowledge of MY “enlightened” elders many of those name you mentioned, I have been to their lectures in the past, and own many of their books that I have read and re-read. I dont think Infinite literary meant that the egyptians worshiped the dung beetle, but the dung beetle was a revered symbol in their pantheon of gods they paied homage to because of it ability to build, to create. I think his point was that the Egyptians with the symbolysm of their gods represented something tangible unlike the invisible figmants of imagination people choose to put so much faith in, only to be disappointed time and time again.

The book of proverbs is laced with a wealth of explanation to this answer of why humans are living this way. Proverbs 15:6 say’s the house of the righteous contains great treasure, but the income of the wicked brings them trouble. There’s a term that we can use in replacement of ‘(income) of the wicked’ which would be: FOOLS GOLD… there’s not much needed to define fools gold except it being a certain type of metal that carries very little value if any.

Basically it’s worthless and only used to deceive, and this income has become the delight of many, so much that very few stop to check it’s real value, while in pursuance of it. There are many efforts that are put forth to get it [FOOLS GOLD]. So much that it’s beyond counting. For no wonder having it has become such an addictive process, despite it’s cunning value to date.

In Isaiah 26: 2 it say’s “Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter the nation that keeps faith.” Now this faith is something you can’t physically see or touch, but it is something that GOD has assured you of.

It’s very much like the thoughts you have on your mind before you build something. You can’t see it or touch it, but you know it’s there. Simply because those thoughts are always on your mind outweighing any thoughts that don’t belong to GOD, and these thoughts are reminding you of what is to be built.

And no one can take them away from you, because GOD himself has placed them in our thoughts. Much like the wicked one has placed on the thoughts of his children a strong determination to progress, when God has told his children to be still and wait on the Salvation of the LORD.

These thoughts are very much what GOD has faithfully given us. Once again it’s called Faith in what he has promised and he is the one who has given us hope. I didn’t grow up in the church…I grew up under it. Having a mother that is an evangelist going to church wasnt a question of why but when and now. In short I didnt have a choice as to whether or not I was going. The reason I don’t go now is that I personally reject dogmatic rhetoric. I can’t stand ritual…week after week that same program is passed out. Ocaasionally it is modified. Sometime we eat dinner, sometimes there is a special program but it remains the same. Church is place (to me) that people of the same religious background go to strengthen themselves in their faith. Even in the best “on fire for the Lord” churches I enjoy the service but I find the structure mundane. Im like that in most aspects of my life though….you name it awards banquets, commencement exercises, etc…you name it. If I m forced to sit long periods of time an listen to someone ramble I get bored. Ive read the Bible cover to cover 66 rimes. I can quote scriptures and parables. I know the themes and have visited the Holy Land several times. I am very spiritual and have deep relationship with Christ but as for the gossipy, dogma of church services…y’all will have one less program to pass out each Sunday; cause I won’t be there.

The popular definition of insanity is subjective at best. Using the same method to reach a projected goal could be seen as consistant behavior in an objective mind. For instance, would you change the way you worship god in order to get to heaven? If you do, you just might end up in hell. good question ivan, i think blacks look at the plight of themselves in america and find it hard to believe in god at all. its easier to believe there is a god if life make sense to u. for blacks that have lived through the republican rule for the last 20 or so years, it might take a close encounter of the first kind to make him seem relevant. i once heard a black mulsim say ALL christians were house n!ggas, i dont buy that. i heard black chrisitians say all mulsims are violent, i dont buy that either. religion has evolved into a devisive mammoth of a subject, but id rather not DIE to prove my point.

Holy cow! This article is DEAD ON!!! I used to be a Christian for MANY years. I joined church my junior year of high school, and I even attended and graduated from a Christian college. Ironically, my education and experience there (amongst other things) forced me to turn away from Christianity! I honestly can’t in good conscience believe in something that was part made up, part taken from other religions/stories and which was used to demean and enslave our people! The more and more I learned about religion in class & in church and reflected on it, the less and less sense Christianity and, ultimately, religion in general made to me! I can’t understand how people can just openly and unquestionably accept all the stories in the bible even when they CLEARLY contradict each other all over the place and which contradict with natural reason and which have no definitive proof whatsoever!

Also, especially concerning Christianity, if the bible is the book of God, then why would He allow it to be written in such a way to be interpreted in SOOOOOO many different ways that there are literally tens if not hundreds of different denominations who all believe different things and practice in different ways?! Why wouldn’t it be clear-cut and straight to the point instead of open to interpretation? Why would he allow so much division amongst his own people? I don’t even wanna talk about what I think are fundamental problems of Christianity ’cause I could probably write 230 exegeses on this! lol

I’ve been to white, black, Asian, Hispanic and multi-racial churches, and all of them just never really had an appeal to me, even when I was a Christian! The worst part about it for me personally is that I really tried hard to believe in it and fit in with the culture (I went on a mission trip, I participated in numerous ministries and events, etc.), but I never TRULY felt “Christ” or “the Holy Spirit”, and then the people were so hypocritical and full of s**t that I just said f**k it (and I’m talkin’ EVERYWHERE, not just in certain churches or cultures). What’s even worse is to see other people being manipulated and brainwashed into believing and doing things which are totally insane, all because they refused to think for themselves, since religion pretty much forces you to think and act against natural logic (can we say “Waco, Texas” anyone?)!

Blah, I could go on and on all day about this, but, long story short, if you’re a religious person, hey, that’s fine by me, if you feel that it makes you a better person as long as you try to live according to the scriptures and, most importantly, LEARN TO THINK FOR YOURSELF!!! Don’t just believe what your pastor/rabbi/etc. or your fellow religious people tell you! Do your own research! Ask questions! Seek to TRULY understand what it is you believe in! Just going to church and singing songs is bulls**t if you don’t really understand what you’re singing about!

What an exquisite influx of responses from different ideologies. This is truly refreshing to read the (apparent) thought provoked responses and to know that there are people out there like myself that don’t necessarily oppose religion but absolutely need more depth, truth, logic, and validity before I can say I will sit in a congregation and listen to rhetoric that very well may be untrue or at least a half truth. I was one of those folks that used to fervently search for the intangible truth of the great religious beyond (mind you I have sat in many places of worship, i.e. Christian, Baptist, Jehovah’s Witness, Muslim, Apostolic etc.)… And to date I attest that I am spiritually inclined and will only cling to that which I have researched and found undeniable fact that will not lead me nor those that I am responsible for astray. Thus, this way of living will at least allow me to be more alert and apprehensive about falling for just anything… (If you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything)… Thanks to all of you intellectuals it makes my brain tingle to read your responses. LOL

Looking at many of the comments of those who have rejected Christianity and the Church, they make some interesting points, but seem to forget one thing: Christianity isn’t about you. Jesus said for us to deny ourselves, pick up the cross and follow Him. He didn’t say deny Him or deny those in the Church! Perhaps the reason you didn’t understand the Bible and the Church is that you’re self-centered. Those who are arrogant and boastful will obviously not feel good in the Church or as a follower of Jesus Christ, who sacrificed Himself for others. People who are selfish think for themselves, want to know what they can get out of something, instead of adding value to something. People who are quick to reject the Bible claim there are inconsistencies, but fail to offer up concrete examples. Instead, they rely on modern books sold in air-conditioned modern bookstores instead of sacrificing some time to seek out the truth of the Bible, of Christianity, of the Church and of Jesus Christ in the most uncomfortable places. In the end, no matter what amount of wisdom you may gain in this world, with its academic degrees, you still die like all the rest. And ask yourself why does death even exist, and why is it unavoidable? The Creator has the principle of death in place for a reason, and it is the few enlightened ones who discover its purpose and source. But I have respect and love for those who still want to reject the Bible and the Church because it doesn’t appeal the them.

Keep in mind the Church in the world today is not perfect, and so if you, being so self-oriented, are perfect, then please join a church and make a difference. You may find out you’re just as imperfect as everyone else, but you have the potential of making things better if you get actively involved and help weed out those who steal and are dishonest in the church.

For those who have concluded that Christianity came after other religions and was thus based on a mix of them, well you would have to believe Jesus was a liar when He said that before the world ever existed, “I AM.” Every religion has an element of ritualistic practices, but the revealing of the meaning behind those practices is whats important. Jesus is not about race or ethnicity. Christianity in Africa predates European slave-trading countries by centuries, so the slave masters who brought it to those Africans who did not know it were themselves more enslaved to spiritual darkness than the ones they sought to enslave. The purpose of life is to show ourselves worthy to endure anything, and once the race is finished, to receive a crown. By my saying this, I am not implying that anyone who disagrees is ignorant or useless, as some comments seem to claim of Christians. Just my opinion, as your opinion is yours. And to the reader, I say seek out the truth in the places you’d least likely to find it and keep the faith. If your church has not been doing a good enough job in answering your questions about the Christian faith, then feel free to ask me or anyone else on here, and as soon as I get time, I’ll respond.

no way would i go to someone who is hurtin (emotionally, financially, or physically) and crush their hopes and dreams of some super hero god. just like a crutch can HELP u walk, a doctor would tell u that in order to recover completely, u must let the crutches go so ur OWN legs can build muscle. so if religion is used to get u through the ruff times, then i think it can render positive results (only in moderation). but i wouldnt let it so close to ur reasoning that common sense is eclipsed enough to impact ur perception of the world progressing passed u.

But I think you’re partially wrong when you say “Christianity isn’t about you”; if Christianity wasn’t “about you”, then why are there commandments, moral laws, etc. concerning how YOU should conduct yourself? Why else do many politicians impose THEIR OWN religious beliefs in many of today’s laws? Why else do many Christian conservatives who go around the world teaching AIDS awareness tell people that “abstinence” is the only answer because “contraceptives are a sin” despite the OBVIOUS usefulness of them?

I remember back when I was a Christian and I would argue with non-Christians about certain issues, and they would bring up points which would make perfect sense to me, but because I was so faithful to my religion then, I would come up with some b.s. religulous kind of answer which, in all honesty, sounded stupid, even if it was based in the bible!

As for an easy concrete example of an illogical inconsistency in the bible, let’s start from the very beginning in Genesis. If God created everything and it was ALL good, then where did the serpent that tempted Adam & Eve come from? Why didn’t God warn them of the serpent? If God is all-knowing, why would God set them up to fail KNOWING what was gonna happen? That’s literally like buying a candy bar, putting it on the kitchen counter and telling your young child not to touch it, let alone eat it. Children are gonna be children, and they naturally defy their parents’ orders because they simply don’t know any better, so wouldn’t it work the same way with Adam and Eve?

Or how about the story of Joshua, when God instructs him to lead his army into the land of the Amalekites to slaughter them all, including women AND children, and to take all of their possessions, despite having supposedly influenced Moses in creating the 10 Commandments which state “Thou Shalt Not Kill” and “Thou Shalt Not Steal”? I mean, I know that when it says “kill” they mean in the context of murder, but what else would you call killing defenseless women and children? A sacrifice? Give me a break!

Now, I have nothing against YOU PERSONALLY; I respect your decision to be a Christian and if it makes you a better person, then by all means, do what you gotta do. However, you can’t deny all of the horrible things done in history in the name of Christianity! Tell me why the Catholic church is constantly apologizing about all the crap it’s done in the past (slavery, Galileo, etc.) and is involved in one of the sickest, most twisted cover-ups in human history (Catholic priests and little boys)? Tell me why people like Peter Popoff and David Karesh can get away with all KINDS of crap all because people wouldn’t learn to think for themselves? I’ll wait….

Just to put it out there (especially for those reading this comment), I am replying not to debate or argue Christian truth, because I believe its either in a person to believe or not. Thus, I am replying because I want anyone reading who might be in doubt and really wants to know answers to benefit from this. I will indeed have those who disagree, and that is ok and understandable.

Now to the answers. “…if Christianity wasn’t “about you”, then why are there commandments, moral laws, etc. concerning how YOU should conduct yourself?” The Apostle Paul explained in more detail what Jesus (or Yeshua for those who know about the history of the letter ‘J’) meant when He commanded Christians to deny themselves and follow Him. Paul said that when we become born again, we become new creatures, no longer living for ourselves, but Christ lives in and through us. Our bodies become temples for the Lord. Anyone who thinks Christianity is about them is still young in the faith and have some more spiritual growing to do. Any politician who imposes his religious beliefs on his constituents is doing a disservice to the people. Regarding Christians preaching abstinence, we are to encourage each other in the faith – this does not mean that Christianity is centered on us, though. We let our light shine in a world of darkness, and the source of that light is not ourselves, but our Savior.

The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. Also, Jesus is a stumbling block to the world because it cannot comprehend all of the things the Lord has in store for those who love Him. I will say this: the education systems of this world are full of traps and poisons, which is part of the reason why our people have been destroyed for lack of knowledge. So don’t be so quick to think that your education is perfect and ideal. We have been slowly poisoned to deny spiritual matters, and even kept from knowing the full truth about history and science. Don’t believe me? Google the inventor Nicola Tesla who discovered and invented many things that got classified by the government when he died in the 1940s.

So this “good” is not the same as the choice of doing good or evil. God created every living creature to choose to do what is right and what is wrong. Why? The answer requires you to have the Holy Spirit to fully comprehend, but if you believe in the spirit realm, then you know God created angels for various roles in His eternal kingdom. They too have the right of choice, but for them, if they choose to rebel against God, then their punishment is extremely severe: eternal burning (because God created them to live forever, thus they must be burned forever in accordance with their nature). So God created flesh creatures in the form of humans so that if we choose to do wrong, our punishment is limited to death in the flesh, and also through our senses, we feel the wrath of our bad decisions because we feel pain. God wants us to learn to be like Him – we are all potentially gods in training. So the Lord created us with the gift of learning through trial and tribulation, something Satan and his demons wishes they had because their fate was sealed the moment they rebelled. Adam and Eve are fine. They learned. As for the serpent, a spirit can inhabit any living creature as we recall with the demons who entered the pigs in the Gospels. Because the world has darkened our knowledge of the spirit realm, this will be difficult for many to accept. I understand that and am not trying to convince them otherwise. Its either in you or its not. Either way, I love you.

What happened in these cases is that those same nations grew powerful, became wicked, and took over the tribes of Israel. So it works both ways. Having said that, you can choose to trust the Lord’s commands or not. The Israelites failed to become a perfect example of a God-fearing and generous nation that other nations were to follow. God intended for all nations to follow Israel’s lead, and those who he knew would reject Him and would later rise up against the nation of Israel He cut off before they could carry out their plan. But Israel was at fault for not being that example, and recall that God told them He punished these nations NOT because they were righteous and deserved it, but because He was carrying out justice against them. But God does not want anyone to perish, ever, and Israel is still on the hook for not leading the nations to Him. So this is why God decided to come down in the form of Jesus to sacrifice his flesh on the cross. The nations killed Him, and remember the world tried to kill Jesus as a defenseless baby! Is there sympathy sympathy for Jesus as a defenseless baby and defenseless adult? The world persecuted the Church, which is the mother of Jesus, so is there sympathy for this defenseless mother? This shows you the evil nature of the world. Trust in the Lord, and He will guide your steps.

If you rely on the history you were taught in school, and if you rely on clean, modern history books you buy in coffee-shop, air conditioned bookstores, then your mind is absolutely poisoned. I know this sounds rough, but I’ve been there in my younger days. I used to rely on modern books for truth. But I prayed to the Lord for wisdom in 1994 just like Solomon did, and the series of events shortly after that prayer were astounding. Instead of going to modern bookstores for the truth, I went to old, dank, musty bookstores looking at old books that were aged and yellow. Even before 1994, I would hang out in the oldest parts of university libraries looking at manuscripts and out of print books on various subjects. I also did not lean on western-leaning books, but also balanced it out with books by eastern authors when it came to the arab nations, asia, Islam, Africa, etc. Thus, Satan has implanted tons of lies about the Church in history books, then got his human agents in academia to inject that poison. Why do you think public education was offered “free”? remember nothing in life comes free. Our free public education (and even paid private education) has come at a huge spiritual cost. False human agents in history disguised themselves as Christians, but were full of darkness. Even the Apostle Paul warns us of them in the New Testament, and that was 2,000 years ago, so you know these demonic human agents have still been busy up until now in deceiving the world, doing despicable acts of violence in the name of Christianity. The same thing is happening to Islam. The thinking man knows that Islam does not condone suicide bombs, mass murder, and extreme hatred. I have my disagreements with Muslims on some matters, but I don’t condone any violence or discrimination against them, and peaceful members of Islam feel likewise about Christians. One of the things that anyone that has spent enough time in church knows is that it’s filled with hypocrisy and drama. The church (or any house of worship) is supposed to be a sanctuary of tranquility, a refuge from the outside world and a place where you are accepted and guided on a righteous path. Yet that doesn’t exist and so most figure there’s no point in being there.

I’ve sat in churches where the pastor felt it was okay to insult his wife and all women and the mindless sheeple would laugh about it. I’ve sat in churches where the pastor is the biggest womanizer there is, yet we are taught that adultery and fornication is wrong. All of them tell you that God has no need for money and then pass the collection plate telling you that you have to give God part of your money. We are taught that premarital sex and out-of-wedlock births are sins yet christenings of babies born out-of-wedlock take place and every woman makes a big deal out of the baby (sure the baby isn’t at fault for being conceived and born but making a fuss over that baby only legitimizes the sinful actions of the parents).

Young people start losing interest in the church around 12-13 years old but they are dragged off by parents, grandparents or aunts or more likely the child is sent to church as the family representative. The opinions and voices of the young are never heard in the church either.

And some of these pastors are too self-righteous and act like they make the rules and can determine who is a member of that church and who isn’t. One had the nerve to insist that all members, particularly the youth, provide proof that they were christened in the church; like WTF??? He betta ask somebody and then back off.

What’s up with the gallery/pics of famous black churches on this page? The Crystal Cathedral is not a black church. And what’s in the description of a Baptist AME church? No church can simultaneously be both Baptist and African Methodist Episcopal!
