Inauguration Black Churches

I come from a family with diverse religious traditions: Baptist, Methodist, Apostolic, Buddhist and nondenominational. My mother was a spiritual seeker, and when she became Catholic, I was baptized into the Catholic faith as a young child.

Growing up, I attended a parish with Irish, Polish and black Catholics, and observed that the spiritual gifts of black Catholics were often diminished. When it was suggested that we include a gospel song in the liturgy, we were told that was not Catholic. “Ave Maria” was sung, but not “Mary had a Baby,” a Negro spiritual. I learned about St. Theresa the “Little Flower,” but not St. Benedict the Black. A Kwanzaa table was a no-no.

I learned while the word “catholic” meant “universal” and “involving all,” much of the gifts and experience of black Catholics were not included.

You should try an African Catholic church or a Black American Catholic Church (with a black amerian patron saint) like St Peter Claver… You will definitely enjoy it and feel welcome…

White Catholic churches tend to be very dusty and stuffy because usually it is full of old people or families with noisy babies but rarely if ever youths or young adults. It is a depressing affair to go to those places because a lot of the folks that are there do not really want to be there or are there because they are scared of going to hell or forced to be in the church. The music is very sad and mood depressing… That’s more than enough to turn anyone away from there…

Now if you wanna see happy people go to an African Catholic, or Pentecostal church… The music is the first clue…

Black people amaze me you know? How in the Hell anyone black can be a part of that corrupt racist religion is beyond me. You know few people are aware that when the Spanish were overworking their non black slaves, a reputable priest Bartolome de las Casas came out and supported the use of African slaves. You would think the church the writer attended would at least let them sing at least one spiritual but no that’s not catholic enough. What the Hell is wrong with black folks? As much as I love God I know he wouldn’t want me to be a part of an institution that looks down on me, disrespects my history, forces me to pray and confess my sins to a white man who acts on God’s behalf. Has 200 + years of slavery and oppression ripped out whatever shred of dignity left in us we have to sing next to these satanic white folks and honor Jesus while simultaneously hiding that which made us unique?

I am a Nigerian Catholic who grew up in the white church. Some of the church go-ers were welcoming of me, some weren’t. I did not focus on those who did not open up to me, of course. I just went these to pray and worship. After that, I leave. Honestly, I rarely saw anything “black” or “African” represented in the church.

Now, where I live, we (Nigerian Catholics) do get together to worship every third Sunday of each month. The reason for this is because folks live so far away from the location of the church. Despite this, we make it a point to meet up and socialize outside of the church. Our community is very tight-knit. I would like to assume that the Black American Catholics are the same, as well.

Correction: I just went there to pray and worship.

God told people not to talk in tongues if there is no interpreter there to tell the church what people are saying. But they do it every Sunday. they don’t know what they saying, the church don’t know what they are saying, and God don’t know what they are saying. Why don’t the church obey God?

I respect father Flager who is a priest in Chicago’s St Sabina. However, to accept Christ isn’t a religion and Catholics are exactly that. When you confess your sins, it should be to God not another human being. Btw, there is not Purgatory. Your either going up or down. Period.

I dont agree with Catholism , to put it shortly it’s one step away from being santanic like the Jehovah Wacthtower witness movement. I Love God, but MAN_MADE religion is another thing!!
