Damn, i really feel for them. Its already bad enough they have no choice but to eat such food with no real or good nutritional value to survive. Imagine having to eat mcd’s everyday ugh…very sad that even that is taken away.

They ARE not the only ones changing prices on the food nor items. This is just 1 out of the many that has been speak of…who has changed their price yet NOT the size of the food item. You pay ALOT MORE just to get ALOT LESS. This is the type of things I have been speaking of and stating that these OWNERS are HELPING in KEEPING america at its WORST…with all these HIGH prices and cost of things they SALE and you don’t see any change in the QUANTITIES of there items either. Price get bigger MERCHANDISE get SAMLLER= to RIP-OFF POOR people. After all WE the people got these OWNERS to where they are at now in life and this is the thanks they give us A SLAP IN THE FACE WITH A HIGHER COST and im not just speaking of McDonalds either. These OWNERS know of the ECONOMY problems and HARD TIMES YET THEY DON’T CARE. Just go to show how SELFISH and GREEDY they are and you can’t blame President Obama for their LACK of CONCERN for the ones who got them to where they are today the CUSTOMER including the HOMELESS people…YOU got to BLAME the OWNERS.(JMO and im sticking to it.)

This is dumb. Think about it “its a recession” when the economy tanks prices go up. When prices go down I’ll run my fingers threw your hair and give a pillow and blanket while lowering the price.

Actually, during a recession, prices tend to go down. Just thing about when gas prices were averaging 4.20 a gallon. When the first wave of job losses hit, prices averaged 1.50 a gallon in some places. A recession is marked by a decline in GDP (the output on an economy). GDP is calculated by adding these four components: 1) Consumption, 2) Investment, 3) Government Spending, and finally 4) Net exports. Now, consumption (things that the American consumer buys) makes up a remarkable 70% of GDP. Clearly, when a recession hits, it is because American consumers have stopped buying things. This, demand for goods and services has decreased because consumers don’t want it. Supply and demand dictates than when demand decreases, there is a leftward shift on the supply-demand graph. Both price and quantity of goods and services has decreased from its equilibrium point.

Anyway, this article can be looked at in two ways. The first way I see things is that this is clearly a sign that inflation is on the rise. M1 money supply, which counts the amount of currency in the economy, has been slowly creeping up. This is consistent with Ben Bernanke’s statement about buying more U.S. debt instruments, if need be, to stave off a second recession in this economy. Inflation is on the rise, and I’m starting to see it when I keep track of non-durable goods at retail outlets and Wal-Mart. The second way I see this is that maybe McDonald’s is infact trying to push away the homeless in the San Fransisco area. In the latter is the case, I say same of McDonald’s. This is a multinational corporation that reports quarterly earnings in the millions. They pay out a generous dividend, and I’m sure the CEO takes home hundreds of millions annually from stock options and such. To raise their dollar menu 50%, especially in a city like San Fransisco is ludicrous. I know that the McDonald’s in the southside of Chicago over by Halted and Ashland gives out free coffee and newspapers to its homeless. The manager there is very kind to do that.

There is no way inflation is responsible for that price increase. It’s about the homeless stinking up his store.

they should just enforced their no loitering policy, instead of letting lounge for hrs after ordering, get your food, eat and leave like everybody else does.

just an over reaction. The collateral damage being that the location coincidentally resides in a poor neighborhood. I know many Mcdonald’s where the price varies. Simple economics. Disclosure “Prices and participation may vary…” I have seen 1.50 in white mountain towns. No big deal. Sorry, if they don’t raise the price, then you won’t have a Mcdonald’s at all. I can understand the frustration, but you have to look at both sides.

I live in SF and it has one of the highest homeless populations in the country. Even in suburb areas of frisco theres homeless. So this article aint about the bad parts of SF and its homeless….its the whole dang city. But theres lots of con-men out there that pretend to be homeless just to get money. My thoughts on this is: We shouldnt be worrying about a 43 cent hike on the dollar menu when there are homeless shelters all over SF. Please!.

The HOMELESS are angry that prices increased? Well I guess they have a point. The people that they beg money from will be less hesitant to give away their hard earned money.

i’m was born in and lived in San Francisco before moving across the bay to Oakland and like Deniro said there is a HUGE population of homeless people in SF. in my opinion they do the homeless people dirty down there…they should not be allowed to panhandle and ask people for money inside or in front of the restarant but i have seen homeless people come in and try to BUY food and had signs up saying “we don’t accept change” as a way to keep from serving them. in my opinion that is just wrong.

if a man in a suit came in and wanted to pay with change they would accept it so they should not be allowed to pick and choose who they will accept change from. as far as this particular franchise is concerned the guy has the right to raise his price…as long as homeless customers can pay he should serve them.

It’s not just that McDonalds! I have noticed that several of the franchise’s have slowly but surely done away with items from the Dollar$$ Menu! The menu is so skimpy that most of the items worth eating are more than $1! That Dollar menu was affordable not only to the homeless but also college students and just average struggling American’s on tight budget and fixed incomes. On the other hand I’m happy that many other resteraunts have added value priced items to their menu’s during this time of recession.

we need to prepare our own foods. not only is it cheaper, you know exactly what youre eating. do you know what makes up a “chicken” patty?? you would be surprized to learn of the ingredients. also go vegeterian. its cheaper and healthier. check out the health food stores for some of those alternative “meat” soy products. sauted over your fav veges, with pasta or rice. forget about WENDY, BURGER KING, MCDONALDS and all that mess. 35 – 40 years from now after making the choice to eat at those places will show up on your test results at your doctors visit. if you can cook, check out youtube, plenty of cooking instruction lessons. i learned to make pizza from a youtube video and it was my topping, i had full control on what i added. plus it tasted pretty good .

So I would have something to say in regards to the financial issue here, but I think there is more to be said about the moral and ethical issues at work in the owner AND in some of the ppl posting on this. First of all, please don’t be so quick to judge a person by the state of their finances or even their physical appearance. I work at a homeless shelter and thanks to this economy there are ppl living there who have mutiple degrees and PhDs and just happened to fall on hard times. Whoever said this is a recession was right, and it is affecting people from many different backgrounds and walks of life.
Of course the food at Mcdonalds isn’t very good for you, but please keep in mind that when you are literally starving for food…healthy food is no longer priority…not starving to death probably moves up one on ur list. Not to mention, the food at the shelters is mostly donated, usually loq quality, and full of the same processed ingredients as the food from Mcdonalds. AND a lot of shelters close during the day with no lunch period…meaning they serve breakfast and dinner (some only serve dinner now with the economy being the way it is), which means the homeless have to figure out how and what they’re going to eat between 7am and 6pm.
Get of your high horses and have some compassion! Not everybody is afforded the same opportunities and you may be surprised to find yourself in that same situation one day.

@ Thicknlovely15 I completely agree with you. I can’t believe how many people have the nerve to sit in judgement of these people and have no idea what they have been through. Lots of people are finding themselves homeless. Have any of you that are judging these people ever bothered to sit down with one of them and ask what got them there? No! because if you have, you would be in tears and be more willing to help instead of coming on BP acting like jackasses. And I bet there’s a whole bunch of you that believes in god. Well, god don’t like ugly and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
