Study Shows HBCUs Are Best In Training Doctors To Serve Poor People

African-American educators are basking in the findings of an unprecedented study that confirms what many have long believed: Historically black medical schools lead the nation in producing the highest percentage of physicians practicing in underserved communities.

Morehouse, Meharry and Howard Medical Schools ranked first, second and third in a study of 141 training institutions conducted from 1999 to 2001 by a group of George Washington University researchers led by Fitzhugh Mullan, M.D.

    I went to a summer medical program @ Howard and that is one of the main things they tried to instill in us future physicians. That is fine and dandy serving poor people which is something I would like to do but whos going to pay for all these loans!!?? They also taught us its not all about money but about people which I agree with 100% but Im still in debt homie!

    Charge a fee for your private practice to subsidize your free clinic for the poor. Or take those on social security as the government will pay you…

    Thats EXACTLY what I was gonna do. Because to me it really ISNT about money. Especially since here in america the richest people get the best health care and thats a horrible cycle.

    MR_NANASTROKER, HA! They will change that tune when those med school loans, cost of living, and oh yeah REALITY sets in like water in a freezer…Cold and rock hard!

    Lol not me…Ive done my research for about many many years…I also know how to bypass those student loans..I wont be practicing in the US anyway once Im board certified, I will be going back to my country for 1-3yrs to become part of ‘Doctors Without Borders’

    And if my loans and such become unbearable—I will move to Paris/UK where their healthcare system is farm ore superior than here. I had originally wanted to study there since there is no BS college before medschool—but I found out too late. However, geting board certified in the US, then practicing there shouldnt be too difficult.
