Another month, another grim jobs report. We lot 54,000 jobs in July. Most of those — in fact, 114,000 of them — were expiring census jobs. The private sector added jobs slowly but steadily, posting 67,000 in gains. This report doesn’t really tell a story of recovery nor of recession. It’s just stagnation: We’re not falling back into the hole, but nor are we getting out of it. No wonder the White House is looking for further stimulus measures.

The unemployment rate rose slightly to 9.6 percent, from 9.5 percent, the Labor Department said, as hundreds of thousands of people rejoined the labor force.

Private employers, meanwhile, created a net of 67,000 jobs, better than expected but below the 107,000 positions they added to payrolls in July. Overall, the nation shed 54,000 positions, but that was driven by the elimination of temporary Census jobs, which was widely anticipated.

From my understanding, when you drill down these numbers, the number of PT workers grew by 600k while, there was a loss of 250K full time workers. College graduates loss jobs at the same rate as non College graduates gained them. A significant difference? I don’t know, but certainly is not a good sign for recovery.

As a person who has experienced multiple layoffs these numbers do not surprise me at all, and the fact of the matter is that its getting worse. So many employers are claiming that they are hiring but refuse to hire. You would think the circ**stances would change since obama supposedly signed a bill that would enable employers to hire workers throughout the year and not be penalized. I truely hope we can come out of this depression but it seems that our society is declining in a very negative way, so its hard to see which way is up. I hope these ratings take a turn for the better and not the worst.

@CrEaMeH. From my understanding, many companies are reluctant to hire because they are VERY uncertain what BHO has in store for them. When the tax cuts expire in Jan, these companies just aren’t sure how this will affect the top line. So they would rather work the employees they have harder than hire new people. 70% of the average business expenditure is labor. Also, forcing all these guys to now provide healthcare for everyone also creates a atmosphere of uncertainty. This is why sometimes applauding these new initiatives is always premature until the unintended consequences have been weighed. Banks are sitting on about 1Trillion dollars as well, afraid to lend. It’s safe to say that this uncertainty has done more to delay the recovery than the other programs have done to aid it.

Well i do not want to be the bearer of bad news but I have read and heard a lot of opinions on things getting worse in the years to come, so it makes you want to say umm what if the bad news bearers actually are on the right track????

@Critical22. They say, at anywhere from 150-250k jobs must be created every month for the next 3 years just to get back to pre ’08 levels. These 54K jobs that the Government is reporting this month, aren’t even all productive capacity jobs, so they really only drain from the economy not add to it. BHO and his staff have NO answers. He said yesterday, that he is prepared to look at a wider package of ideas to get this done. But that’s just positive spin talk because it’s been two years already and I can’t imagine there are still stones that haven’t been unturned at this point. The Fed is also at a lost and the best we hear from the chairman is a second round of measures that clearly didn’t work the first time. Yes this will definitely get worse before it gets better.

lol@jazzwatch…we got what you were saying. Internships is the next big thing now. Many businesses are hiring unpaid interns taking advantage of them because of the lack of jobs, but still getting the benefit of at least half an employee (when you factor in exp). Can you imagine a company having 4 or 5 interns working for free (looking for resume material) in a year? This is what slavery was all about. Cheap labor. Things don’t change, they just dress them up in different clothing.

The funny thing about it is that the #’s reported are not even accurate. They use a formula to est the projected job creation for the month. Two months from now they will report lower #’s. So if the #s were 115k they are closer to 60k. They can put whatever spin they want for the uneducated, but people who research know the truth. On thurs his press sec had a news conf was beat down by reporters delivering double talk n throwing Summers under the bus for not being there. This admin is a joke when it comes to financiial issues much likee most issues. Heres the guy w/ many campaign promises n still when pressed, plays the blame game. Man up n just stat you’re down w/ the status quo n just keep it moving. A lot of people went out n backed this admin n 08 now when he calls none will back him now. Last week he was n hollywood trying to raise money, poor turnout n 3rd teir celebs. What a joke!

Anybody thinking like I am about this?….In a way, this could be a good thing. If you start your own business, when the economy “does” turn around for the better, at least you won’t have to work at some crummy-a.ss job just for the sake of “paying the bills.” May be we need to get back into the business of how we used to do things before all of this affirmative action and integrationist bullshyt. When Black people had mo other choice but to make do with the best that we had, we seemed to be a little more motivated in helping ourselves. This is no knock against many of us who want to work in Corporate Amerikkka; I wish you the best of luck simply because, you’re going to need it. Corporate Amerikkka is going to become more abusive, more stringent and less accompanying for Black people. I think that we could learn a lot from the Asians and Jews and get our own economic agendas into action, both individually and collectively. The world is becoming less friendlier toward Black workers and, as strange as it may sound, there are “more” opportunities for educated, skilled and entrepreneurial Black business owners outside of the U.S. than inside. They (system of racism/white supremacy) don’t want to think, act and breath globally because they are like parasites, sucking the living blood out of everything that Black people create and develop. I think that we need to look at business, even trying to find employment, on an international level. I think that there’s more of a lucrative opportunity at working with other global business people than trying vainly to work with these insanely racist white people in Amerikkka….Just my thoughts…”and” gettin’ my business on!!!!!!!!!!!!!……
