Also other race of people do the same thing its just the black race was cut short on everything. People been getting rich off of our backs since we came to this country. We need to start spending in our own communities, in black owned business and bring black wall street back. Truth be told if it wasn’t for us this country would have went into the 2nd great depression. Most of our people been in a recession all our lives and we know how to make due with what we got. White people was losing their jobs, and homes, so they was freaking out cause most of them never experience that before, so they quit spending cause they didn’t know if they would be next to lose their job. Black people been there and done that. We was still spending and we were the ones that kept the economy up. Now think about if we was to do that in our own communities and the number of black owned business that’s giving our people a chance at employment. That’s my vision of the black takeover.

yeayeayea but at the same time our black asses need to start taking control of ourselves and our mindsets and stop being so lazy. First thing we do is complain about our history [that we didn't experience]. Instead we should be complaining about why we are holding ourselves from our fullest potential. When will we stop using whites as our litmus test for how we live? If I make money to have a good life, put my son through school and leave him something when I go, why do I care what the white person next to has? We spend too much time telling white folks that they are the gauge by which we see our own lives. We make them too important and that is why we still have so many who see us as less, because we keep sending out the message that we see them as more. Worry about what YOU are making and stop trying to compete with white folks.

This is a racist country and we started with a deficit. Kind of like playing Monopoly and not getting the $200 each time we passed go for the first 20 times we passed go. White have a head start on collecting and building wealth. Even though not all whites or even MOST whites are wealthy. (They do take up the majority of the welfare rolls) Aaannnd..we can now build our own wealth; we have blacks doing it regularly, now. We need to spend our time and energy focused on building our own houses instead of crying about how its still not as big as the white folks. Plus, its tiresome to have the successes of Blacks diminished as if its not worth celebrating unless all Blacks are multimillionaires. Everyone won’t be a millionaire and everyone doesn’t even aspire to. I do (for the record), but its not everyone’s goal. Many are happy with a family, home, career and great quality of life. Can’t we ever just celebrate what we have?

Carolina, I think you and Booshee are misinterpreting what this story is talking about. It’s not a focus on individual blacks who happen to make more money tham some whites. It’s talking about overall as a whole, whites are still earning more than blacks. I’m an active duty military member and I make more money than every single person who is ranked lower than me, and that includes a whole lot of whites, but still, as a whole, whites earn more money than blacks.

Go to school, work hard, get the good grades, get scholarships, get the degree(did it all), get the job of your dreams, get paid the wages equally; GTFOOH with that fairytale s**t that I’d been hearing since I was 5!

It seems that when you’ve done all that’s required, they change the game on you!…(lol!)…With age come wisdom, and now that I’m ma wiser man, I’ve learned to stop trying to live by other people’s standards of “success”. Success to me now is doing what you love to do, and the financial rewards will follow. After all, not everyone is trying to be the next Donald Trump or Bob Johnson. All the money in the world does not bring happiness, which is proven every day in the very stories we read right here on NewsOne. This is why we should support our own businesses. In the 1930′s/40′s two Black economists wanted to fund a program to lead Blacks to economic respectability so that they would not be at the mercy of the white man, when white lending agencies refused to make loans to help. So the Black leaders set aside a large amount of money so that people could make loans to buy homes. After only four such loans were made, those same white agencies called wanting to make loans to take some of that business. They won’t help you get off the ground, but as soon as you’re flying, they’ll come around. We need to support our own businesses, because with a combination of supporting white businesses and already getting paid less, we are only doing ourselves a disservice. Once we are economically independent, we will be respected economically. People will want business with us and we will be paid appropriately.

@alanidmc….You are absolutely right. Wealth brings respect. It’s sad that we can’t respect each other outside of this parameter, but that’s just the way the world works. And it’s not just white people who exploit Black people economically (as we let them), there are others too. My problem with white people is that they become parasitic and bloodsucking leeches whenever Black people “make something out of nothing”, and try to buy you out or get a controlling majority position in your company/corporation.
