I do believe the article refers to “minorities” not receiving BP oil spill CONTRACTS. Contracts,… being the word of interest here. I have no doubt 228SOUTHBOTGPT that you see clean-up crews comprised of as you say of 90 percent black. The question is who holds the contracts that enable them to hire and pay the 90 percent that you see doing the cleaning? That is what I believe this article is trying to call our attention to. My next question would be,… who has oversight of, and has final approval on how the contracts are awarded? Perhaps journalists should look into that or those individuals areas of interests and lists of “friends.”

Ok. Contracts are generally submitted to people who have experience the oil industry. You don’t just go on monster.com & say, “Oh, a contract with BP for the spill. Where do I sign up.” I know of several “minorities” who were offered a contract with BP to assist in the clean-up. Simply put, they felt the work was beneath them. “I’m not taking a $95,000 contract when I can go to such-&-such for $200,000″, to put it bluntly. As far as the “minorities” you’ve seen 228SouthBoy, they were hired by the contracted who accepted the contract & put out into the field to do the clean-up. Truthfully, I see nothing wrong with hiring felons to get their hands dirty & do some good work. Some also feel the benefits that come with the contract are not sufficient enough to what they’re receiving now or what they could be receiving at a higher paying job. So before everyone goes blaming “The Man” & what-not, male sure you get the facts & information from all sides.

Classic case ignorance and naivete..open your eyes people…Patates_douces is absolutely correct. You could see 99.999999% of ALL the clean up of the bp oil spill being cleaned up by black people. What the hell does that mean? It likely means that 99.999999% of the CONTRACTS are owned by white companies and HIRE black people bare minimum wage to do the work. Because the fclean up effort is soooo lucrativ, white companies get awarded huge contracts. The question really is, WHY WOULD YOU EXPECT ANY DIFFERENT FROM THESE CORRUPT CAPITALIST CAWKSUCKERS? Seriously? C’mon y’all….wake the fawk up…just because you SEE black people doing the work doesn’t mean that they own ANY of the contracts …SMFH at the naiveté
side note…and for those that really think the word minority is exclusive to latinos, I would have you look the word up, then ask around for added reinforcement, then find out the percentage of african americans and so called latinos in this country and compare the two. Then, compare both of those percentages to that of whites in this country. After doing that, refer back to the definition of minority. I agree that the word is quite derogatory and inaccurate when one takes into account a more global perspective of black to white, however, to say that it refers to latinos is baseless and unfounded.

Knowing how “politricks” is conducted in this country, especially in the South, it is safe to assume that they (Southern politrickians) knew beforehand “who” and “which” good ol’ boys and gals were going to get those ‘f-e-d-e-r-a-l’ contracts in coastal Mississippi, Texas, Alabama and Florida. Strictly for PR, considering the high-impact, round-the-clock, non-stop media coverage of the BP oil-puck-up, why not hire 99.9997% of Black men and women as cover to assuage and deter criticism away from what you know is coming your way by talking heads (including NAACP, Rev. J. Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, etc.)…These boys are good. When “NewsOne” finally gets a legitimate, qualified staff, we’d have more information than speculation about the exact amount of the $53 million in ‘f-e-d-e-r-a-l’ contracts that are/aren’t going to ‘Black’ businesses and other businesses owned by people of color and females.

Swallow your pride. People have to put food on the table & provide for their families. It’s sad to know all this black/white still exists. The hard working people who are working on the spill will tell you they’re doing what they have to do to provide for their families. Knock off all the black/white & look at the number of jobs that are now provided on account of this tragedy.
