I live in Gary,this is not the place u want to raise ur kids..Gary was the murder capitol most of the 90`s….It was Micheal Jacksons parents that made him a superstar not this city…The mayor is really trying to be something he`s not,he needs to focus on running a city and stop trying to make a profit off the family`s tragedy….

My father was from there.I still have aunts,uncles,and cousins there,so I have an idea of how it was/is.but Michael became what he was because he took what his father drove him and his brothers to be to a whole different level.for the lady who said the “next Michael” is coming from Gary,keep dreaming.the next one aint comin from Gary,or no place else,because Michael was 1 in a trillion.

I agree with Jesee Michael is the grestest enterainer that is ever lived and no there won’t be another Micheal in our lifetime that we will ever see but i give it to Joe though he was called strict and whatever else you wanat to call it but he held down his family and he helped Michael to be who he is. In my opinon, Joe Jackson didn’t discipline his children any differently than any other parent from back in the day..if you didn’t listen, ya got ur ass whoooped..simple as that.. he wanted greatness for his children and if it weren’t for him pushing them for success, Michael Jackson wouldn’t be known as the king of pop today..His children were mannerable and very respectful children. And based on the movie, I never saw him beat his girls. He may have yelled at them, but he never hit them based on the movie..so I personally don’t think he was a bad father. He may have been a bad husband with the cheating and all, but I think he wasn’t as bad as he was portrayed to be.

Some of you guys here mistake ass whooping for doing sth wrong with scaring the s**t out of ur own children and beat them make them to rehearse 24/7 . There is a difference between discipline and child labour.I dont think he whooped their asses because they hung around with the wrong people or did sth bad. I mean they were working all the time so there is a big gap in that logic. Furthermore it seems like the general opinion is u can only discipline ur kids by beating them up which is kinda weak. Joe Jackson deserve respectttt. It must have been a biggggg job growing up all those children and not one turn out to be crack heads or ended up behind bars. Spanking your children, especially in the caribbean, and black family’s all over the world is not a big thing. So spankingin order to disciplin your children is far different from abuse and beating. Okay whoopings are one thing but when your children don’t hug you and tell you they love you something is wrong. Something went wrong with him and the discipline. My aunt raised two boys by herself, neither one has ever been in trouble with the law or has been strung out on drugs, one has bachelors and the other a masters but at the end of the day she gets her share of love from them. Oh, she beat them too when they did wrong.

We as a community need to be careful of how we advocate corporal punishement as a form of discipline. I’m not against corporal punishement as a form of discipline – when it is used sparingly. However, I do belive that if parents aren’t careful, they can cross the line into abuse. Now I believe Joe Jackson deserves recognition for pushing his boys to be great – he is in part responsible for their success, however, I don’t think we should pretend that everything he did was okay just because his boys became successful and made a lot of money. Based on Michaels own accounts, Joe’s abuse was sometimes excessive. We need to remember that their is a difference between getting a spanking or a “whoopin’” and getting abused and we should not lump all of that into one category.

I don’t see where Joe Jackson is such a bad man. He kept Katherine pregnant, but he stayed and raised those kids. Nobody had to get their tax dollars out to feed them. And he didn’t just put food in their mouths and clothes on their backs. He interacted with them, and not just tossing the baseball every now and then. Joe Jackson interacted like a mufukka and produced THE greatest intertainer on earth. Now, what MJ did with himself after he was raised is all on him. Too often people blame their parents and I was no exception. But as you get older, and when its all said and done, parents are only human too. And like Tyler Perry’s character Madea said “Parents only do what they know”

I respect joe jackson, he worked hard, kept his kids out of drugs and gangs, and made those kids into something. I have to admit there were more fathers like joe jackson in our communitys, they woudent be so bad. I needed a father figure in my life, i use to act a fool and not go to school. I didnt start getting my s**t togeather till i went into foster care where i had a strong foster father and mother. Discipline is what the youth needs, not these single parent households with a absent father that is in and out of prison, not taking care of his kids. That being said im gonna try to be a better father, paying child support is not enough (even though alot of brothers aint paying nothing). Joe jackson may not be loved by all his kids but u have to respect the man.

This might sound crazy to most people, but I want my daughters to respect me, listen to me because I make sense as a parent and I set a good example for them…Not because they are trembling, frightened, mousy low esteemed followers. No offense califemme, but raising daughters and raising sons are too diffent things, a young man needs to be scared of their father, they need to know that they have something to answer for if they get out of line. The problem with todays young men is that they dont have any fear of repocussions for there actions. If a teen boy is messing up in school and he has no fear of what dad might do, more than likely he will continue to do that, trust me ive walked in those shoes. When i was a kid and my stepdad (before he went to prison) was in the home, i was in school every day, getting good grades because i know what would happen to me if i was messing up in school i would get that ass whipped! As soon as he went to San Quinton for 25 years to life, i became the man of the household, and i start doing whatever i wanted, not going to school, stealing, disrespecting my mom, i did those things because i could get away with it, i was the man the household, who was going to tell me diffrent? Raising daughters i beleive is diffrent from raising sons, i have a daughter, i would never hit her, because she is a girl, but if i had a son and he got out of line, i woudnet put him in the hospital, but trust me, if he wasent getting the point by reasoning with him, I would not hesitate to put him in his place, oh what am i talking about, no matter what i say u are not going to agree!!!!
