The Alabama professor who killed her peers is, at least based on the news coverage i’ve seen, not racist – she’s definitely apparently mentally disturbed and likely haunted by demons of anger. Okay, I WAS ON THAT CAMPUS when it went down this past Friday at @ 4:30- 5 ish (my better half is enrolled there, and I attended a lecture with her in the arts building, I think that it was Morton Hall)the doctor got upset because she was denied tenure and had practically planned this for a week (she procured a gun allegedly without her husbands knowledge and they had been frequenting the shooting gallery as of late, citing that she was concerned about some “crazy students”). However, as racism could be embedded deep in her heart (for that is a very prominent theme in the “Rocket City”, but we’ll never know) she didn’t plan on killing according to ethnicity, she just started shooting whomever was in the closest proximity. As I recall there were caucasians among the wounded. I find it odd though that these newspapers around here have witheld the photographs of the slain (once again, it’s probably due to the racism that saturates this state or it’s their halfhearted “attempt” to stop it). I can’t believe that after TWO (there was another school shooting at Discovery Middle School the Wednesday before that) that they’ve actually cancelled classes. I got into a heated discussion about that because I wasn’t so shocked about it. It’s a really simple explanantion to it all: she got away with it because she is obviously a psychopath (that in itself, entails brilliance as she was that) and secondly she went undetected because of her skin color. It’s a crying shame that the “upper echeleon” has to endure the type of thing that the inner city schools have had to endure for decades before anyone begins to give a damn. Same thing with the “war on drugs”. Anyhoo, that is the unbiased truth from someone who knows personally what went on. Lakerdude, I know that you are probably going to chime in, but don’t, I was there and like other times I know what I’m talking about as I FREQUENT Hunts-vegas and I know how this state operates on a very, very intimate and intricate level. This is just an example of “good ol’ boy” hiring practices backfiring. And on top of all that there was supposed to be a recruitment tour for high school students on the following Monday. I honestly don’t understand why with a Harvard Degree that she didn’t seek employment elsewhere. From my understanding she wasn’t well liked among the students anyhow! This is yet another case of selective enforcement from our justice systems in this country. Of course we have free speech in this country and I’m fond of the fact that Blanet Planet recognizes that a hate crime can occur at any given time. However, it behooves one to look at the facts in this case. I’ve done some studying in regard to this case and it’s rather appalling. This woman had a history of violence and yet, was able to continue to work in a professional setting. With all of the school shootings that have occured in this nation, there must be a better way of implementing a secure environment. The school is the last place a person should have to worry about getting their head blown off. This shooting should be a rallying cry for those who are tough on making one of our most sacred instititions safer. What kind of future do children have to look foward to when all you see on the news is crimes worthy of the electric chair being committed right in our schools? The alleged suspect in this awful crime has been charged with capital murder. In the state of Alabama, she can receive a death sentence if the lead prosecutor seeks to pursue it. The chips will fall where they may. Let us not forget the real issue here which is school safety, not race.

Amy’s educated family lived in a nice 2-story upper middle class, and her mom was politically well-connected. They weren’t well-known enough like the Brandos to attract a lot of attention.
Dr. Amy got briefly arrested. Had she spent at least 6 months in prison or a mental institution, the chance of recidivism might have diminished, even though I think Amy is just mean. Minister’s wife Mary Winkler only got a few months in the nuthouse, but that’s more than Amy got.

First off, “Amy Bishop, the lunatic biology professor down at the University of Alabama that went on a crazy shooting and killing spree” opened fire methodically, aiming at the victims heads according to the Dean of the department who was credited with stopping Bishop before she was able to continue shooting. The opinion that Bishop is racist has no credible bounds, other than the fact that the 3 who were killed were non-white. Since Bishop was sitting at the table with the other 12 faculty members that day, i would conclude that the 3 who were killed were in close proximity to her and, consequently and unluckily, the first to be shot. Mentioning Bishop’s brother and Dr. Rosenberg only strenthen the argument that she is a violent and crazy woman, but since both her brother and Dr. Rosenberg are white, the racist argument fails here. Bishop is not a terrorist. She had no intent to influence political or religious agendas through violence; instead, she is a murderer who should have been charged with murder and, at a minimum, attempted aggravated assault (if not attempted murder for the pipe bomb incident) in the past. Failures of justice occured in the past which allowed her to be able to carry out these present murders. While it is a poignant point that typically a black person who had been involved in similar incidents would still be serving lengthy sentences today, that fact bears no importance to the storyline of “professor kills fellow faculty members”, which is the current news story. A family member of Bishop stated that Bishop was ““obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting” but, again, this has nothing to do with the fact that she was pissed off for being denied tenure and decided to take her anger out on other faculty members.

I would love to see more opinion articles which focused on the facts of news stories rather that exploiting the opportunity to write another piece about how the story translates into racism and politics.

Black Americans are smart enough to decipher the facts and get to the root of issues without needing to be ‘guided’ or ‘schooled’ to racism and politics.
