Paterson Blasted

The only time I’ve ever even heard of a mass act as suspiciously Tom-like as the group of Black leaders that got together last night to discuss New York Governor David Paterson’s political future was the effrontery that took place when some fool decided to gather together a gang of Black athletes to “weigh in” on the mind state of one Muhammad Ali whom everyone had assumed was insane because he had refused induction into the United States Military.

russell-ali-brown-alcindorAli’s group included, among others, Jim Brown, Bill Russell and Lew Alcindor– ne Kareem Abdul Jabar, dudes that had to go extra heavy on their Blackness over the course of the next few years just to make up for this debacle.

David Paterson’s own group got together at Sylvia’s restaurant in Harlem last night to discuss whether or not Paterson should resign as governor of New York. Get this straight: David Paterson shouldn’t go anywhere.

And this isn’t even a case of Paterson doing what white politicians would have done. If Paterson had done what New York’s most recent white politicians had done, Manhattan’s skyline would probably be missing a few more tall buildings right now and more former street-walkers would be sex columnists for the New York Post.

The big deal(s) in David Paterson’s case are that he is accused of accepting free tickets to a New York Yankees game and he supposedly used his political influence to try to resolve a domestic violence accusation between David Johnson, who is one of Paterson’s aides and Sherr-una Booker, Johnson’s former live-in girlfriend.

If accepting Yankee tickets were anywhere near a punishable crime, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani would be currently under a jail.

And as for Paterson stepping in and trying to resolve things between his aide and the aide’s former girlfriend, this isn’t at all like the case where current New York mayor Mike Bloomberg intervened and prevented a criminal investigation in the aftermath of the Deutsche Bank  fire– a fire that killed two firemen.

Using your polticial influence to attempt to resolve an issue that might have been blown out of proportion while emotions were still running high and at the same time, trying to protect one of those in your employ and therefore, one of your own, isn’t doing anything unethical at all.

As a matter of fact, in politics, that’s called leadership.

It does seem a little stupid, when you put it that way. In contrast to what his predecessor has done, even. I think that people want the dude to vacate the spot and somehow get Spitzer back in there. Spitzer’s approval rating has skyrocketed after using our funds to pay for hookers and the likes, and he’s on every damn TV show left and right since being caught. But if this group really felt like they were trying to remove him, to save face for black people, they need to remove most of their members first.

Although I think Paterson should have used better judgment when having contact with Johnson’s ex-girlfriend, I firmly believe this was merely an excuse to get him out of the Governor’s office. In fact, this whole, supposed “scandal” surrounding Gov. Paterson is more than a little suspicious. It sounds like a classic political strategy where, if the political intriguers can’t get past a top aide to directly influence the person in power, they come up with strategies to eliminate that stumbling block. A case that comes to mind is that of Rasputin nearly 100 yrs ago in Russia, who served as a strict go-between between the Czars and anyone who wanted to influence them. Political intriguers had a very tough time getting around him, so they decided assassination was the best approach. In Paterson’s case, they just decided to assassinate Johnson’s public image (we know that just about all politicians have “blackmail” potential with some skeletons in the closet, so they just decided to target Johnson’s skeletons for political expediency).

Byers, it must be freezing in hell cause for once i agree with you. if i’m David Paterson, who the fck are you to be telling me whether or not i should quit my job?

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

POLITRICKS in full effect. Apparently, the group was split on asking him to retire vs. ride it out. Please don’t overlook Obama’s hand in all this. Remember, he was the first one to ask him not to seek re election, due to poll numbers (even though he didn’t ask Corzine not to run and he had worse poll numbers than Paterson at the time.) and when David rejected him, here we go seeing the same smear tactic game that is often put in play, when a politician goes rogue. Before you accuse me of being paranoid or spewing hate against Obama, consider this. Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama over Hillary which pissed both her and Bill off. So when Obama tried to repay his friend for that endorsement, by getting his niece the vacated Senate seat, David rejected both she and essentially Obama and chose Gillibrand who was fully supported by the Clinton’s and David was showing his loyalty to them. David P has just gotten caught up in being loyal to the wrong political camp at this time! So goes the world of Politricks!

i may be going on a limb here, but once again i feel that our feelings toward our politicans are being dictated to us by special intrest’s financial grasp on american media. i actually watched the washington journal on cspan this morning, who had a writer from the ney york post who admited to the angry black callers that this alleged misconduct was first reported by his newspaper.

heres the real issue here… i unfactually believe that gov patterson might have publicized the 911 hoax for what it really was. if this were to happen, it would be the “nail in the coffin” for the gop. this is y they dont want the ksm trial to be public. if ksm can make a reasonable argument to the world that his confession was forced, the cia could possibly have to release the tapes of his torture. this can not happen because most of those responsible are still in power and obviously financially dominate our economy.

black leaders will blindly follow anyone who has a chance of increasing their own influence. most of these leaders have no intrest in our oppression, but see any racism claim as a photo op. honestly, gov patterson is loved by the have nots, who dont see obama as a representative of their plight in america. in fact i havent heard the president or his press secretary mention anything about the unemployment rate among blacks (which is double the national average) since the campain trail.

i dont want anyone to think im obama bashing here, as i spoke against black leaders who do this. im simply stating that republicans (the few that are left) have no problem speaking out for their constituants, tea baggers, or birthers even at their own political destruction. i also belive that charles rangel is being “scapegoated” too, because he also knows 2 much.

since the swearing in of our beloved president we have seen the few republicans that are left do what the majority of our democratic congress could not, stick together. i have not seen this “black caucus” do anything about or even speak on our racist criminal justice system or reach out to our blacks in highschool to join their secret society, or be mentored by those who use these situation to gain political influence.

this “i got mine u go get yours” attitude is what allowed the slavery system to go on for as long as it did. even then, im sure there were an unlimitted amount of “well to do” house n!gguz to fight them every step of the way. in closing, when so called black leaders begin to agree with the new york post, we need to find if there is enough dna left in malcolm x’s casket to clone him. this is unacceptable.

oh black people are awake, we are very awake. I dont know about the African-Amerikkkans though. The same ones that are Obamamites are still falling in line, while most of us are failing in line or in life(systematically skewed or is it screwed?)

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Unique019/ Unique019

I have a question to ask….since when does being of one ethnicity mean you have to 100% fully support any and every person of the same ethnicity? I’m sorry but the days picking cotton are long gone, the days of not allowing blacks to read and write are long gone and I dont support Patterson because he is 100% clueless as to how to run a state government. This guy’s approval rating is dismal and of course a certain segment of the population still want to play the race card because the race card is the easiest way to deflect blame but the truth is Paterson is clueless as to leading a state. This guy should step down before he ruins New York’s credibility even more

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/gee43gee/ gee43gee

Bush was clueless about running a whole country yet he was put into office twice. Why not send suggestions and alternatives to the governor and give him a chance to learn what you feel he doesn’t know. Born and raised in NY in the 50′s was never as great as people think.

to ihateinteracial there is no such thing as pure race if your mixs or mixs down the line. thats just stupid you need to brighting how you look at things

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Perionne27/ Perionne27

Lol @ interacial as if HE himself chose to be what he is. With his logic you’d swear we all had the chance to decide when we were babies “Well I wanna be born mixed…wait no Asian…wait no Indian…wait….”

    Idiot….

Anyway as for the article..my thing is if we’re going to have leaders it should be because they’re good at what they do…supporting someone who’s bad because they’re black is equally stupid..doesn’t help at all

@DancinMasheen: I co-sign. This is the first time I ever agreed with Byers. Although I wouldn’t exactly call what Paterson did leadership. He seemed to be trying to use his influence to put out a fire. Technically it’s abuse of powers because it was none of his business. But it seems to me to be the political equivalent of stealing paper and staplers from your office.

@Ihateinterracial: You spelled “interracial” incorrectly, amongst other words. Also, your grammar is atrocious. You may hate so-called half-breeds, but why don’t you start hating half-educated half wits? Don’t you know there’s no scientific basis for race? Unless you, with all your apparent intellect, have done your own scientific research.

This article is dead wrong about blacks selling out David Paterson. The fact of the matter is that Paterson has become hugely unpopular in the State of New York and the Democrats, including Obama are concerned that they might lose that seat if Paterson contests the elections. We have to be realistic about what is happening in New York. Paterson just has too much baggage on him right now for him to challenge any republican. At this point in time Cuomo might be a better choice for that state.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/fnyclightskin/ fnyclightskin

    My, My, My,
I can tell by the article and some of the comments quite a few of you DON’T follow NY politics.
    1. He is a horrible governor (nobody asked for)
    2. He comes from a long line of crooked politicans in Harlem that don’t do anything for anyone but themselves.

FYI when you put up articles such as these.. make sure you have all the facts about the NY Governor.. Hmm — the funny going on’s with the race track winning bid.

It’s amazing how in this article.. a domestic violence abuse which just got another one of our SENATORS thrown out of office.. And Patterson was LiKE he needs to go.. HELLO! — well so does your aide.. no clue why he felt so entitled and above the law

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/bassman21/ bassman21

RK Byers, another brother whose parents forgot to tell him his black history. Jim Brown, Bill Russell, etc didn’t have to front like they were black and proud, they set up institutions and agencies for black athletes and scholars to succeed in what ever they wanted to accomplish. Also your assesment of the meeting in Harlem is also half-assed. Some black leaders were there to sell out the Governor, most were not. Charles Barron let it be known that he was here to support Gov. Paterson.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/bassman21/ bassman21

At Unique019, you obviously don’t understand New York politics. Every ethnic group sticks by its own in the city and state. Blacks and Latinos aren’t united that’s why we aren’t in control of anything in NYC. Look at the gentrification going on. That couldn’t happen with out us being divided.
