That’s the whole thing, if you are a criminal, or are participating in criminal activities from time to time – you have no grounds to run to the police. I can respect that , in an odd sort of way. To me , that is a snitch. Now, that I have defined it, I will say this: let me catch ANY s**t going on in my community, or if I see a crime I am reporting that sh*t. Simple as that . I really don’t understand some of my people. As a black man, husband, father and provider for my family. Why! the hell would I let my neighbors sell drugs, steal, kill etc. and not tell. This is a very interesting topic, because I’ve had the same thoughts running through my mind. I think that if the crime calls for it, then yes we should let the authorities know about. But, if we’re talking about something that’s simple as standing around talking when your boss isn’t looking, then no, its really not worth getting the other person in trouble for.

What it all comes down to is the individual. If you believe not snitching to be morally correct then your not going to snitch. On the other hand if you seen something go down such a a robbery, murder, rape! and your conscious is telling you to say something then you should speak up! My point is thus: While it is fashionable for the police/law enforcement to live by the code of “DON’T SNITCH” on each other because of their so called “BROTHERHOOD” even when they act inappropriately within our communities (i.e. abuse of power, disrespect, contrived arrests, lying on the stand in court and or charges etc.) why must the community be held to a higher standard than those who are paid, and have taken an oath with many points of ethics within that oath. In essence, the term “DON’T SNITCH” is a direct learned response to the fact that police do not tell on each other in order to protect their brethren. AS A FINAL NOTE: one-thing citizens must realize: Is, the police are not there, nor paid to protect you. Let me first say something that occurred yesterday and it is my belief, even thou there is no evidence to back it up, that i was hit with a Trojan – RostockBOT from this site(Blackplanet). It cause me alot of pain and took 24hrs out of my life. It blacklisted my mail server and crashed the computer i was using but thank god for school and the brain i have i was able to rebuild the PC and remove my mail IP from the blacklist and secure my network and all PCs. I am not sure if its because of my comment on the White cop cornrows or the comment i made about BP poor Patter Matching programming or the stories that BP continue to run that does nothing to uplift Black people as a social networking site that is geared at a black audience.

To address this matter, which is indeed a no matter to start with and therefore is not news worthy, Snitching as it is commonly called here(USA)as nothing to do with Mafia’s code of silence. This site’s editor again is unable to put phrases and terms into proper context as it relates to ethnicity. The only plausible reason that he/she can see or think of is in relation to crime hence the reference to Mafia. So for the sake of history let me educate or give the editor another prospective on this subject.

Snitching is not synonymous with African American, this has been around Africans for 400 years and has nothing to do with the present day activities of crime in black communities.

Many of the slave rebellions were put down in their early stages and some never got started because enslaved Africans informed ( in the West Indies the word informer is used instead of snitching and a common saying is “Informa fi dead”) on there fellow men and in the end the White salve owner would brutalize those who were responsible. Lets take the 1763 Slave rebellion of Guyana, the enslaved African Cuffy lead this revolt and was later betrayed by his fellow men. Haiti Salve rebellion 1789 led by Toussaint and here again there was another betrayal by his fellow men and i can go on and on with caribbean/West Indian History to show the origin and how entrench this is in our culture as black people. A typical Snitch/Informer carry names like Uncle Tom, Johnny Jumper, soup drinker etc. The term has more weight when referred to in an oppressed environment eg. Slavery and now Racial Profiling by the Police and this is not just in the USA but all over the world where black people live and yes where we rule/govern too. The Police has replaced the Slave owners and as such those terms will always be in effect. My community was horrible when I was coming up, now we have made great strides to bring it up and getting rid of the criminals. I don’t live by the street so I don’t live by it’s codes. If you break the law in my area I will see that you leave one way or another. We have to many kids playing everyday and when kids are involved all intimidation is put aside. I see a lot of folks on here say that snitching is only when u ourself is involved. I find it strange that people have said time and again that if they witness a crime they will tell, then you’re snitching. If you have no idea the totallity of the situation, you’re snitching, you’re telling on someone. Even, my granparents told me it’s not good to be a tattle-tale. If you’re not helping then you’re hurting. Everyone that would be a “witness” to a crime, sees negative things take place everyday that they could change, such as helping a homeless person, being a mentor to our youth, helping out a drug addict or sickly person, and elderly person, a loose female that may need direction, but fail to step up and offer aid there, so why tell when you see those same fallen angels slip and and do dirt. The same people that you know because you watched them turn into the people they are but never said a word or offered help or asked if they needed you in anyway, just sat back and judged and now you aid in the execution of our people but not in the saving. I find that far worse than criminal.

Where I come from snitching is a death sentence (literally). Pedophiles, Rapists and Serial Killers are excluded from my code of ethics (yes I would snitch on them). I don’t like Police much and it’s because the way I was treated by them growing up. I live in a pretty affluent area now and I still get harassed because I shouldn’t be able to afford live here…but I digress. I don’t believe in snitching I have a very close friend who got caught for something we all did and he didn’t give us up for a lighter sentence. He did 7 years and we made sure he was taken care of when incarcerated and when he came home. Those instances are when the stop snitching rules apply. If you’re involved in criminal activities then you should abide by those rules. You shouldn’t expect upstanding law abiding citizens to uphold that same code of ethics that is supposed to be unwritten law between street cats.

This is what simply cracks me up, how brainwashed of a society we people of african decent have become. We have here the question should we rat on our own people to the whiteman. Knowing very well that the goal of white supremancy and racism is the destruction of the black family structure by jailing our young blackmen. Put on top of that … this christian jewish society we live in … all these passionate lovers of Jesus, and the question of do we snitch on our brother.

The most important thing I learned as a child that Judas was dead wrong for selling Jesus out. That snitching is one of the worst things to do in our community. Blackpeople on Sunday professing to want to be like Jesus … and afterwards act like Judas. In prison you will lose your life for snitching. But then again … maybe this is what we deserve for adopting a book written by William Shakesphere for a krakker king who wanted to stick his nose in religon King James of England. A krakker who started his own church so he could divorce his wife. And generally speaking we took to his teachings like a duck to water.

Without a doubt … on my block … in my hood … we will beat you down, and not call a cop. And I own a home, worked hard for everything I have. I want black people policing our own … and not in no dayum uniform supporting white supremancy and racism. And a black cop is no better than the overseer on the plantation durning slavery. Not enough police officers are being killed. Maybe then our young brothers and sisters (our babies) won’t want to become cops.

I noticed alot of people use the analogy of “if a crime happened to your family mebers” would you tell. I have witnessed on several occasions where BLACK victim’s families have filed charges and the POLICE and laws did little or nothing to the perp who victimized these people. That in itself happens every day, so my argument is this, i think black communities are conditioned into this so called “stop snithching” mess, becasue they don’t feel truley protected by laws. and when you really look at it, the justice system is about money, if a criminal has enough money, they’ll buy there way out of most situations any. so alot of people feel the best way to get even is to take the law into their own hands

Man. You people don’t understand the story of Judas. Judas committed suicide when he found out the consequences of his act. He didn’ think he was selling Jesus out.

Christ knew Judas was his weakest link. The apostles had to keep his location secret, else he be taken into custody. He knew this because Judas never questioned him, where the other apostles would argue with him. Thus, he knew Judas did not have the wisdom of character to guide him and he would fall prey to the tricks of deception.

Judas was offered money to “help” Jesus in his mission to help the poor, or some such. The other apostles knew such people needed to be vetted, but Judas was eager to gain respect and his weak character did not allow him to see that he needed to follow instructions and check these people out before giving them any information.

The evidence is clear. He committed suicide upon discovering his actions resulted in betrayal. The amount of money was quite small. Judas was considered the most faithful, but only because he never questioned Christ, where the others would argue with him like “brothers”.

The story of Judas is then one of a fool, not a traitor….

Snitching: I guess it is if you belong or have pledged allegiance to a group, crew, etc. If crime is your business, then it is. You have to understand that their are those who may be adversely affected by that business; in terms of being physically harmed or killed; losing a loved one. There is also the “business”, the purpose of keeping one’s community safe, crime-free, or at least major, potentally violent crime-free. This push and pull comes down to one thing: R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Even criminals know that people should not being dying and wasting their lives like this. Good people together or People doing good together is more powerful than any crime organization. Especially in our (Black) community. We have got to raise the level of self-respect not to be confused with self-glorification.

Ok so I posted about a week ago…So after this young man has been beaten to death in his own community by gang members…Do you really feel that if you KNEW or KNOW who did it, its the right thing not to help by telling??? With so many false convictions and forced admissions in the name of clearing a crime, you really can’t blame people to wary of tipping off cops. Cases like the Central Park rape and the mess down in Dallas makes people hesitate involving someone in the criminal “justice” system

It’s not “snitching” It’s called standing up for and protecting your community. How many of you live in dangerous neighborhoods where you walk down your block and pass hoodlums standing on the corner who you know for a fact are guilty of some serious crime? Maybe even against someone you know. I’ve never been in a situation where I knew any first-hand criminal info about someone but if I did and it resulted in justice being served on a miscreant who’d committed a serious crime, I’d have no problem informing the police. Black-on-black crime comes from thugs who prey on their own because they know black people are too scared to talk or don’t respect the police. Those thugs rarely attack whites because they know whites don’t play that. They’ll tell the police in a heartbeat and the cops will be there in seconds. We need to show we’re not scared either. You have to see a thug as a thug and not as a black person who you feel you have some kinship with.

Okay you all want to talk about snitching let me tell ya about snitching and being a peron that had to go to jail and deal with probabtion for someone snitching as well as lying in the confession, i guy who i called a cousin since the age of 7 we both got caught in a house raid, they never found nothing on me but the “keys” to the house and about $200 bucks, we all went to jail the one i called “cousin” im telling him to straightn this out so i can get outta here i have nothing to do with this, he kept saying, “umma handle it dont worry”, well little did know, he done jus that, the detectives interrogate me leave and come back asking who is this and who is that, people that wasnt not even at the house, so im like where are they getting these names from these cops not wizards by no means at all, so i stop talking period cause it was nothing to talk about anymore and i felt like someone is running they mouth,so with that, i saw signed statments of him saying i was the “man” of the house, the cocaine he was cutting up the table was mine, cuz when the cops raided the house he cleared the table of crack he was cutting up and im laying in a pool of it cuz they said !”GET DOWN!” WITH GUNS BLAZED AT MY HEAD,plus the “keys” remember i brought that up earlier, they thought that i control the house, so they ran with with his lies, confessions about others i knew, and blatenly snitched, I live in Milwaukee and i dont know any serial killers but if i knew Jeffrey Dahmer was cutting up bodies in my apt complex, oh well call me a “Snitch” all you want im trying to save lives, not decapitate em’ true story’ Aleus

Where is your honor? How is it ‘snitching’ when a whole gang of boys is involved in stomping, beating, and kicking a little boy to death? According to the news story, he was, as we always say, in the wrong place at the wrong time–not involved in the original fight at all. How many of you live in dangerous neighborhoods where you walk down your block and pass hoodlums standing on the corner who you know for a fact are guilty of some serious crime? Maybe even against someone you know. I’ve never been in a situation where I knew any first-hand criminal info about someone but if I did and it resulted in justice being served on a miscreant who’d committed a serious crime, I’d have no problem informing the police. Black-on-black crime comes from thugs who prey on their own because they know black people are too scared to talk or don’t respect the police. Those thugs rarely attack whites because they know whites don’t play that. They’ll tell the police in a heartbeat and the cops will be there in seconds. We need to show we’re not scared either. You have to see a thug as a thug and not as a black person who you feel you have some kinship with.
