Sarah Palin & Michael Steele Team Up Against Obama
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin used her first out-of-state trip on a partisan agenda since the presidential campaign ended to challenge the idea that unplanned pregnancies are a nuisance that can be solved by abortion.
Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, spoke to an overflow crowd that organizers said numbered 3,000 at the Vanderburgh County Right to Life banquet Thursday night in Evansville.
Some in the crowd wore white “Palin 2012″ T-shirts. Earlier, GOP National Chairman Michael Steele had described her as one of the party’s current standard bearers, though he said it was too early to judge what her standing would be in three years.
Palin said the challenges she went through during her pregnancy with her son Trig, who was born with Down syndrome, gave her an opportunity to live out her anti-abortion beliefs.
She said she prayed often during her pregnancy, especially after tests revealed that her son, whose first birthday will be on Saturday, would be born with abnormalities.
“The moment he was born, I knew that moment my prayers had been answered,” she said. “Trig is a miracle. He is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I want other women to have that opportunity.”
She challenged the notion that children must be born perfect and that unplanned pregnancies are inconvenient and can be ended by abortion. “I know for sure my son is perfect just as he is, made in the image of God,” she said.
She asked the crowd to keep working for the “culture of life” in America.
“Life is ordained, life is precious,” she said.
She also said that like Steele’s adopted mother, women who can’t give birth to their own children should have the opportunity to adopt children who might otherwise have been aborted.
She mentioned that her daughter, Bristol, became pregnant as an unmarried teen and has since given birth to a son.
Palin also took President Barack Obama to task for his support of abortion rights and embryonic stem cell research.
She said deciding when babies get human rights isn’t above her pay grade, a reference to Obama’s response to a question from the Rev. Rick Warren last year. Obama said such questions were above his pay grade.
She received at least two standing ovations. After the speech, she addressed an overflow crowd in another room and thanked them for their support.
During a news conference earlier, Steele said Palin is among a crowd of current GOP standard bearers that also includes fellow governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Mark Sanford of South Carolina.
“I don’t know about 2012. I think she is a standard bearer right now. She and Mitt Romney and Governor Pawlenty, Governor Sanford, Rudy Giuliani, Eric Cantor, Mike Pence. We have a significant number of men and women in our party who are in a very good position right now to carry forward the standard of the GOP,” Steele said.
Pence of Indiana and Cantor of Virginia are congressmen. Many in the party also look to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal as a presidential favorite in 2012.
Palin hasn’t ruled out a presidential run in 2012.
Palin was cheered wildly by supporters as she entered the banquet hall with her husband, Todd. She stopped to sign autographs before taking her seat at a table.
Palin and her husband also were expected to attend a breakfast this morning with S.M.I.L.E., a nonprofit support organization for people with family members who have Down syndrome.

They decry welfare, but then discourage women from making a responsible choice to counter the irresponsible choice of unprotected sex. Then, the pro-choice advocates would like to pretend that there is any concern on their part as to when life “begins. I have the answer: AT CONCEPTION! DUH! You plant a seed, and just because you can’t see it underground as it goes the phases of GROWTH, doesn’t mena it isn’t alive. VYNN-M, if a woman and a man don’t want to have a baby the best way to fix that is to not be screwin around in the first place. I agree that its terrible when a baby is born to a daddy that refuses to be there and offer the support, love, and presence that the child needs. But, the bigger issue is why would any real woman want to give her body to low-life, no-class, nutless jerk like that anyway. He don’t have that much game, women have been through enough drama to recognize a dead beat when they see him. I don’t even let somebody in my CAR if I don’t trust em. Your remedy is to close a blind eye to murder, be silent at injustice, and call it judgmental when someone fights or speaks out for the rights of those who don’t have a voice so the parents can “do them”? Has our society degraded so much that we lack any moral compass, truth is all relative to experience, and our best solution is to exhange one evil for another? A little baby should not have to be sawed and hacked up into pieces because of the selfishness and lack of self controll of two people who couldn’t wait or at least have the common sense to put on a raincoat. And even if the mother gets relieved from the burdens of child birth, she will wrestle and struggle psychologically over her choice to kill the life growing insider her for a long time. I know sisters who suffer every year thinking about birthdays that never came.
this is bulls**t. if a woman doesn’t want to have a baby, she don’t have to. that’s a whole lot better than being forced to have a baby that the daddy might not be there for, and then she may have to drop out of school, get on welfare, and struggle until the kid gets old enough to go to school. damn. stop being so judgemental all the time and let people do them. besides, they will have to answer to GOD when it’s all said and done. so i really could care less. if a baby’s aborted, as opposed to the chances of it having a terrible life, then by all means, kill the kid.

I agree with the commenter that said that “Palin is a fraud and so is Obama.” But this issue isn’t about politics, it’s about ethics and morality. It’s about defining exactly where life begins. Does life begin outside the womb, inside the mother, or at the moment of conception? Of course, there would need to be some degree of debate and sensativity for women who become pregnant by rape or incest. But for everyone else, to throw up the word “choice” everytime a booty-call goes bad and 1 night turns into 18 years is a digrace to the very concept and value of human life. The idea that a human being can be chopped up and disposed of like some old hamberger meat that was taking up space in your freezer is evil in one of its purist forms. It befuddles the idea that actions lead to consequences and you have to deal with the mess you made if make the CHOICE to sleep around. A baby is not a fixable inconvenience…he’s the product of your decisions. During so-called partial birth abortion, a baby is killed while it is still half-way in the canal. They pull his head out, ram a spike into the back of his skull, and get rid of his tiny little corpse with tomorrow’s trash. Did he feel pain? Would he have cried if he had a voice? Would he have begged for his life if he could speak? We need real men who want to become husbands and fathers instead of baby-daddies. We need real ladies who know their own value and don’t settle for some wannabe playa treating her like a w***e and skeetin in her, thinking that maybe this man’s love and attention will replace the affection she didn’t get from her father.
I think Palin need to face reallity and stop been a saint! what is the essence of bringing into live a child that will become a burden to not only the people around him/her but to him/herselve( child born with abnormalities). I have witness on many occassion when such children accuse their parent of bringing them into this world to suffer. Another amazing thing is that she condon child sex… The question is if all children follow her daughter step, what kind of society are we gonna have? to cut the long story short, she is not capable of maintaining a small family and who knows if her daughter learn from her what she did. There are so many hard working American family out there that work so hard to provide for their children all the best moral they could have in this ever challenging world. My advise to palin is to stop these cries and go back home be a responsible wife and good mother so that her little boy will not impreginate an under age girl..peace!
I also see there are a lot of comments in here about abortion and a woman’s right to choose….but let me just put a question out here. If YOUR daughter was raped would you MAKE her keep/carry the baby?? Despite the psychological damage it may cause her? Personally…I wouldn’t but that’s just me. I’m glad women who find themselves in that horrifying predicament do have a choice.
i believe that our goverment wants to seperate us not bring the people together. if we the people were united as one we would have way too much power.this new race issue is nothing new…its been used for years to keep us seperate.why …..so they can keep us fighting with each other and not fighting for a new standard of equality which we all want.what everyone seems to forget is we the people are many…..and the goverment is few compared to the whole of the united states! who really has the power us…..we just forgot that we put them there we can demand change! we the people are the ones with the true power we just need to reremember! dont forget the past or its dombed to repeate it self! and if u look around u will see the past is coming back to bite us in the ass!
