Facebook was supposed to be about older people wanting somewhere to be, online, free from mixing with the kiddies. That is the goal of many site developers who want to enter social networking, make a hugely popular ADULT site (not adult-themed as in sex). You want one kids are not going to be attracted to, and therefor won’t come to and ruin. Well facebook failed in that, today. lol Think about it, if you’re 40 and on Myspace, you look like a loser to people, don’t you? Age, not race!
Facebook people are not more wealthy and educated, and especially not now! They’re the same people on all of the other sites. Facebook was posed like the “Myspace for Grown Ups”, that’s all I heard people saying, earlier on, so the old people, looking to be cool, all went there. It was a more hip way to connect than Classmates.com, is all people said, so they flocked there. Facebook was billed as the conservative, social networking site, only tight asses went there. That has nothing to do with race though, that’s more of an age and social status thing (initially), and older people have money than young people. Black people have the same types of people, so they went there too. Facebook is boring to many youths, and Myspace is too wild to old people. Both sites are made by white people, so I’d expect more whites on it, and it’s geared towards this society, which blacks are a small percentage of, whites are the larger percentage of. Why is it hard to understand that more whites are on it? As more young people flood all the social networking sites, the sites all become like each other.
So now, all of the white, grown ups, are on LINKED IN, that way you’re really safe from the kiddy influx messing up the site. The more conservative a site, the less kids will go and mess it up, that’s what old people are looking for. Myspace is geared towards pop culture and youth, it’s not hip hop and ghetto, that’s only a small part of what’s popular for the youth. There is more mix of culture in there, and all walks of life, a reflection of our true society, from races to sexual deviants, but right now it’s dominated by young people. Now, facebook is just twitter with pictures and videos so that brought in all the kids.

I ask myself that question everytime I click on Newsone,Hello Beautiful,Blackplanet,Urban Daily,as well as Facebook. To me ya’ll all are SO DAMN WHITE. The way ya’ll put down the black race…im starting to think the head leader of the Grand-dragon is running all of ya’ll.(JMO)

‘Facebook’ is popular with people like myself because we have an area where we can stay connected with everyone we love in one space. You can comment on status updates, you can create personal forums and you have more privacy options.

I don’t like ‘My Space’ because I see the site as one for posers. I will never forgetting seeing this guy I know claim he was 30, had one child, was a former marine that owned a recording studio on MySpace who ACTUALLY is pushing 40, has multiple kids by dramatically younger women, was never a marine and works in a grocery store. COMEDY!!!!!

This article is CRAP! Don’t go searching for racism where it doesn’t exist. I joined FB before it was cool and still not open to the general public, only people with a valid college e-mail address. At the time I was a user of FB & MS but made the change quickly to FB only because it was so easy to connect with old friends and classmates without all of the spam like porn star wannabes sending me friend requests or various bands/artists asking me to be their fan. The simple fact is that FB took something that MS had already created and streamlined it to be more appealing to an older audience who didn’t need the frills of decorating a profile page.

This article is some what pointless. If you would ask me that question. I would of been lost. Cause most of my network is black. Mainly because I know alot of black people. At the same time, facebook design wasn’t meant to browse random people. You have to know people in order to find them. Which would explain alot. Plus facebook was intentionally meant for college students. And not random people with no life ahead of them trying find people online to hook up with.

I agree with almost all of you on this subject. What drew me to MySpace originally was my ability to reconnect with people. The ability to see a snapshot of my friends lives. I get to watch my friends children grow up.

Additionally in one unfortunate case when one of my friends passed, their page became a memorial and a place to celebrate his life.

The allure of Facebook is that you only accept people who know you. The photos are a journal of my life’s events. My wall is my thoughts put out there to be shared with all who I care about. Random people do not send you friend requests in hopes of you viewing their web cam. This made Facebook my social media of choice.

Note I did not go into the white black race thing because it was irrelevant.

I was under the impression that facebook started out mainly as something that college students were using to talk back and forth. Facebook keeps things simple and doesn’t all all that customization crap. And since there are a lot more white colege students than there are black. It kind of goes without saying that at the time it would be whiter. Facebook is like any other popular thing out. It will only be trendy until something better comes along. Myspace kicked yahoo profiles asses and now facebook kicked myspaces ass. Right now Facebook is trying to keep up with that waste of time twitter. This moronic article is a non issue.

I have no idea what the black-white , etc ratio is on Facebook. I only view the profiles of my friend and family. It wouldn’t shock me if they were prodominantly white because they were created by white people.

I joined Black Planet in 2005. I couldn’t remember my password (I didn’t use it that much then) so I created another page recently. I like Black Planet structure. It’s geared more at connecting with new people and you can view their profile without adding them as friends. The various networks on Black Planet is so wide range, one can meet friends, search for jobs, chat in the chat room, share opinions in groups or on personal Blogs… ect
I joined Myspace in 2006. It was a little difficult to format my page or chat but the information and various connections were and still are great. It’s just a little behind in new technology used by members to format their personal information and its more time consuming.

I joined facebook and really like how simple it is to copy and paste. My sister in Australia and I share info a little easier and faster by commenting with each other on that site. I’ve found long lost friends and The Family tree is awesome.

I think the most important thing is what the members want and not who the members are. Well maybe if the focus is centered on diversity we’ll realize that all three fit their purpose in every member’s life separately. I don’t think its based on education or race, I think it’s the technology.

I tell you black people can be so self-righteous. BLACKplanet lol im getin a kick outta this site. I wonder why white people dont get all bent outta shape about this site. I too disagree with this article and think it was a waste of time. For me Facebook is truly a networking site. I’ve managed to get intouch with past classmate from elementary school on up to college. I’ve been able to find and get in contact with family and friends that live overseas and keep intouch with family that have moved all across the US.
Myspace was cool and fun but after awhile became the spot for the youngsters. As far as BP…I like the articles but the website really does suck and could use a major technoloical face lift.

I left MySpace because of the proliferation of kiddies…I saw more of my younger cousins and nieces and nephews than any of their parents…I like Facebook because I’m a gamer.
