U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.

It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI), the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said that he requested the CIA and other intelligence agencies brief the committee on what was known, if anything, about Hasan by the U.S. intelligence community, only to be refused.

He did not attempt to contact al Qaida. He contacted the old Imam at the mosque he usually prayed at in the morning. He didn’t know who this man was from all the doc**ens we’ve seen so far. Maybe that changes later, but so far we’ve interviewed over 250 people in the area and at FT Hood and there’s not a hint of MAJ Hasan attempting to reach out to al Qaida. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that he was deeply conflicted about his faith being on the line against other Muslims once he deployed. He had also indicated that he was disturbed on the same subject as a result of counseling soldiers, many of them Muslims, through Walter Reed and treating them for PTSD. The entire matter of war and the horror stories coming from soldiers of all faiths deeply dismayed him. He tried a number of times, some very awkward attempts, to convey this dismay to his seniors. They didn’t report it. The Army personnel people never knew most of this, so when his requests for release from AD were received, they werenot favorably considered. At Ft Hood, it seems he went through more of the same as he had endured at Walter Reed, and he snapped. There’s no excuse. He is a psychiatrist, he should have realized, through self examination that his specialty is required to routinely perform, that something was wrong. Either he ignored the signs, or missed them, which is hard to believe, given his actions leading up to the shootings on 5 Nov.
Now, 13 people are dead, 42 wounded and an counted number of people’s lives have been forever changed. Many of them won’t be identified for quite awhile before the symptoms of PTSD surface. The MAJ needs to be tried, convicted, and locked up in a mental hospital, for treatment. No one in their right mind would have done something like this. But, given the atmosphere, a GCM may very well likely sentence him to death. Now back to the job. The Army wants this cleared up ASAP. Not to say cut corners and hurry, but they want closure for the rest of the soldiers.

Not surprising, the FBI told Bushes Admin about the 9/11 plot before it happened, they were informed in July, and did NOTHING!
