Since President Obama began campaigning for the 2008 presidential election, a barrage of unfounded smears against the president– allegations that he is not an American citizen, myths that he is an Islamic fundamentalist, etc.– have become popular among voters and in the media.

The Obama campaign recently launched AttackWatch.com in an effort to address new attacks heading into the 2012 election.

Users who sign up get information on false claims with the goal that supporters of the president will spread the truth, informing the campaign and others of new smears as they arise.

This time, they’re not just out to personally attack the President — they’re also out to mislead Americans about the record of accomplishments that he’s compiled. Just the other day, a Republican financier  actually quoted Saddam Hussein in telling a group of millionaire donors that defeating President Obama will be “the mother of all wars.”
