SAN DIEGO – Shirley Sherrod, the black federal official who was forced to resign last week after a conservative website posted a selectively edited video of her, said Thursday that President Barack Obama “needs a little lesson” in race relations.

Sherrod, who was the USDA’s director of rural development in Georgia, was asked by a journalist at the NABJ meeting if she thought Obama, the country’s first black president, has a blind spot on civil rights issues.

“I think he does,” she replied, adding, “That’s why I invited him to southwest Georgia. I need to have him down there, so I can take him around and show him that history.” Blacks and whites in that region “don’t get along the way we should, but we don’t get along as bad as we used to, and there is some reason to hope we can make it even better,” she said. “He should come down and see that and hear that firsthand. He needs a little lesson.”

I respect Obama but there is a saying in this situation. “If you forget where you been, your going to forget where your going”.

I think what is happening there is happening all over, racisam has always been an issue across america where blacks are concerned. Our President knows there is a racial problem hell he faces it every day when he has to deal with the senate.

The question is maybe she wants to get that one on one time with our president to let him know what is going on inside the USDA as to why these black farmers hadn’t been paid along with other things that have been going on? A good opportunity for Ms. Shirley to really educate our president on whats really going on smooth I like that…

President Obama is a true politician. He could care less about the African-Americans in the US. He finds every opportunity to duck and dodge the racial situation there. The Tea Party folks are nothing but the KKK wrapped up in sheep clothing. His Advisors are just as scared as he is. President Obama needs to get some balls and handle business. Running away from the problem will not make it go away. Ms. Sherrod is absolutely correct!!!

This might be true. Obama is a black man. I’m sure he made the same experiences with racism and rejection like any black man in America. But he is a black man by appearance not by culture. He was raised by white folks and lived in places where diversity wasn’t a challenge or a new thing but everyday’s life. Michelle is the one with African-American heritage. I’m sure she advises him on the topics but several things he just can’t understand. The same why white people can’t understand how hurtful racism is. The same reason black people don’t understand white patterns and the same reason why black and white people don’t understand the special experience of mixed people. He is not to blame…

If Obama would be scared he would never have run for president. It was sure as hell that would make him a target for lunatics and racists of all kinds. Obama is the president of ALL American people. Some black folks should better think less African-American and more American.

Though you are right on the Teabaggers.

I do not have the demographics to make an accurate comment. But if President Obama’s Whitehouse staff and administration is not diverse, he is faltering on his campaign promise, as that was one of the things he said he would do. I also believe he should consider more diversity at the Supreme Court level. And in Ms. Sherrod’s case, what is even more troubling is the NAACP coming out against her, when, in fact, the NAACP was the audience that heard the actual speech. What’s up with that?
