This is ridiculous! A friend of mine recently quit smoking weed (for now) and I congratulated him. He asked me why, and I said because it’s an illegal and addictive substance, plus its expensive. Then he went on to lecture me that weed was only illegal because it couldn’t be taxed and made the typical comparisons to alcohol.

i hate to say it but i don’t know anyone who was harmed from smoking weed. its truly no different from alcohol if anything alcohol can kill u weed can not think about it. its from the earth its not chemical influenced at all its simply dried so it crumbles. a pack of tobacco can kill u. u ever heard of overdosing on weed i think not. i have used it and it has not affected my education or my employment status. god gave us choice and wisdom. there is a time a place for everything. how far will u let it go and how much will u let it control u.becuz it can’t be taxed that is the only reason it will never be legallized. but i do think the legal system should ease up alittle on its laws as far as weed goes.

I really find it hysterical when people try and tell me that marijuana is a mind numbing drug. If you know someone who has become dependent on Marijuana and it effects their everyday life negatively, then weed is not to blame, the person is. Marijuana is harmless in doses of your very own tolerance, and at the same time too much of anything is not good for you. If you or someone else has become dependent on marijuana then it is not for you to smoke, just as someone who becomes dependent on alcohol, cigarettes, or prescription medicines should not continue to use the substance. I really wish people would stop putting marijuana on the same level as crack or heroin, or any other CHEMICALLY ENHANCED DRUG, because weed is the complete opposite. Marijuana is also the answer to a lot of our economic troubles, seeing as Hemp can be used as a resource for a large amount of products other than a recreational or medical drug.

Weed use is harmful. Having said that it is NOT the government’s place to tell you what you can and cannot put into YOUR body. This is not a morality issue since prescription drugs are used for recreational use just as much if not more than marijuana. Comparing weed smoking to smoking wood is just childish when you know that people only mention that as a comparison to the thousands of manufactured drugs that are prescribed to US citizens everyday – most of which are physically addictive which marijuana is NOT.

The gateway drug argument is weak since the drug most of us get introduced to first is alcohol which gets a pass only because of its legality.

This is only BIG BROTHER finding yet another way to make criminals out of good people. It only helps the jails stay full which means more money for them. It only helps prisons stay full. It only helps corporations full of closet drunks and prescription drug addicts deny opportunities to a segment of society.

The criminalization of marijuana use is really a matter of PERSONAL FREEDOM that even non-weed smokers would be wise to rally against. Are we going to be a truly FREE society or not?

ok how would people like someone high flying a plane or doing surgery on you because they legalize weed, naw nothing will get done if thats the case, I disagree. The main reason for drug problems is because of the strict laws against drugs. Human nature dictates that we want most what we cant or are not suppose to have. i.e. you tell children they cant eat candy and what do they crave? Its a mental thing and the less emphasis you put on NOT participating the more attractive it becomes to people in general because it becomes taboo. I feel if weed was legalized one of two outcomes are possible: either intrest in weed would decline or people would be a lot more moderate in using it because it no longer would have that taboo element attatched to it.

I think he should decriminalize it. Don’t forget they had similar arguments about alcohol back in the day – all the moral s**t – now they have a new focus. And in 30 years there’ll be a new one. Ppl should not be going to jail for years to pay for distribution, posession, or use of marijuana. After working in government I have to say (especially to the man calling n****rs over this issue – how hateful) that people of all walks of life enjoy it and it doesn’t affect their success or intelligence, and it shouldn’t be different for poorer or blacker ppl. However, I don’t think he should legalize it because then it will be like cigs and alcohol, first illegal and ruining ppls’ lives unnecessarily on jail time and prison and preventing employment, then next thing you know the government is making a mint off it. But yeah, something needs to be done. I think there are more people in this country who actually do smoke weed than those who don’t, that random person standing next to you that you would have never thought smoked weed, well they have and probably still do, marijuana is a classless drug, it doesn’t discriminate and is used by the most poor people to the most wealthiest, I know first hand, I have friend’s from every group of people….I think that legalizing weed will actually slow down the buying and selling of it, its going to become so easily accessible that the price of it is going to go down drastically people aren’t going to be able to charge as much as they used to for it, the only bad thing about that, is that those same “weed” dealers are going to have to find another drug to sell to make their money and could bring up the percentage of chemicalized drugs such as meth, cocaine, etc.

Sincerely, we as a ‘culture’ need to educate the ignorant. For example, most people don’t understand that Cannabis is the genus name for three different species: sativa, indica, and reduralis/rudaralis. As I read through some of these comments I envision and can hear the opposition gathered together saying, “Good they’re still stupid, they have no idea. They still don’t get it.”
When Cannibis was criminalized we lost one of the most resourceful plants on the planet. By criminalizing the Cannibis plant -which exist as both “male” and “female”- our government made it next to impossible for research (private or competitive) to be performed on the one plant that could, would, will put an end to this energy/alternative energy/economic crisis. Not only would/will Cannibis research create an increased need for employment – scientists, chemists, biotechnologist (yours truly), farmers, growers, harvesters, plant operators, fermenters, fermentation vat operators, supervisors, laborers, etc . . . – it will open doors to the use of cannibis (male) as a cellulosic bio-diesel fuel. A fuel with the ability to decrease our stressful need for oil. Our government knows the legalization of Cannabis further rushes the medicinal use, recreational use and research on a plant/narcotic that is not only stimulating, but is also natural with some of the lowest recorded adverse effects within humans. Likewise, the high level of THC concentration found within Cannabis female, have been researched to discover various positive effects within STD’s, cancer, the eye, AIDS patients, and previously mentioned bipolarity.
When George Washington Carver, was allowed to study the peanut at the Tuskegee Institute/University he discovered over 200 uses/bi-products of the peanut which influence the making of: beverages, cosmetics, dyes, paints and stains, stock foods, foods, general, and medicines.
