NAACP Protests Obama Strip Club Banner
Activists gathered outside a downtown strip club Monday to denounce as racist a banner depicting President Obama as the Joker from Batman.
“Not only is it an attack on the president, but also on all men and people of African descent,” King Salim Khalfani, president of the Virginia NAACP, said of what he called “the abomination that’s on the wall” outside Club Velvet.
The banner, unfurled within the past few days, depicts Obama as Heath Ledger’s grotesque Joker character from “The Dark Knight.” The president is shown with smeared red lipstick, a white face and darkened eyes. The word “socialism” is spelled out below the caricature.
Dancer Kaitlyn McGee handed out a statement from club owner Sam Moore, who did not appear. The statement described him as a “staunch libertarian” and said the banner was intended to show his displeasure with Obama’s policies. McGee walked through the crowd with a sign that read “Strippers 4 Obama” to show that Moore is not opposed to the president himself.
“Mr. Moore would like to say that anyone who believes that his banner is racist is an ignoramus,” it read.
But the activists said the Joker banner was typical of what they called escalating attacks on the president — from depictions of Obama as Hitler at rallies to South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You lie!” outburst during Obama’s recent nationally televised address to Congress.
“Racism is as American as apple pie,” Khalfani said. “The presence of a president that as African blood is very, very troublesome to many in this country.”
McGee, who described herself as a waitress and dancer, said customers had not complained since the banner was unfurled at the busy intersection in Shockoe Bottom, a historic entertainment and residential district.
“As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t really bother me,” she said. “You could say a lot worse things about him.”

Black folk, stop letting these pseudo-black organizations keep us focused on the dumb stuff.
We have to stop being OVER-EMOTIONAL and START BEING MORE LOGICAL. Stop letting these “black” organizations keep black folks all riled up on NON-ESSENTIAL ISSUES that don’t put food on our tables.
Some white and black folks like Obama, some don’t. So what? This is not a personality contest OR American Idol; this is YOUR LIFE. We need to pay MORE ATTENTION to what Obama signs his name to, not how well he is “liked” by other people.
Its simple…these people are bored and have nothing better to do. they protest every president. they really need jobs…
The owner is a quirky, funny, lookin white man and his strip club is da best n only thing he has goin for him. I live n richmond n I ignore cuz dats what the owner wants…attention.
One things for sure, and that is that those who are too ignorant to follow the actual issues and have a legitimate gripe towards all people of color will stoop to new lows in order to perpetuate the hate they feel in their hearts. It’s not their faults though, most of them where raised this way. I agree with the sister who said, we shouldn’t jump at all the dumb propaganda they spew daily, since they can’t really sleep well knowing the President of the U.S. is a black man. Just kinda ignore them and they’ll go away……. Ha ha ha ha….

President Obama’s politics have grown alot of negativity by alot of people, including myself and some of you black people need to look DEEPER into president Obama’s policies. Don’t support a president because he’s half-black, support him because you support his policies, support him because he’s a good president. Its still hasn’t been that long since he was elected so I’m still waiting to see if he gets healthcare reform passed, improves the situation in Afganistan, lowers the deficit, keep the economy moving foward, etc., we’ll see.
P.S. Not all white people are the enemy, lots of good white people out there but some white people make ALL white people look bad unfortunately, I read about all kinds of bs going on in the media everyday (The Obama-hating, the obsurd things the right wing elitist say and do on a daily basis, the blacks and latin children kicked from the pool in pa, etc., the stories are many). SOME PEOPLE ARE GETTING SCARED. Why? A Black President has been elected and alot of people, unfortunately, are very angry and secondIy, I just want to remind everyone in a couple decades there’s gonna be a drastic change in this great republic. In a couple decades the vast majority of children in the United States will be non-white. Blacks, Latinos, Asians will outnumber whites and people see this coming, fear is setting in plain and simple.
