As President Barack Obama’s approval ratings continue to plummet as a result of the raging health care debate, some black professionals in Washington, D.C. are getting frustrated — and a bit fired up.

According to The Los Angeles Times, “the president’s overall approval now stands at 57 percent, down 12 points from April. Disapproval has jumped to 40 percent, the highest of his seven months in office.”

So there’s one pressing question that many African-Americans in D.C. are asking: Are black people actually being polled?

In beauty salons, barber shops and sports bars, many black Americans in the Washington, D.C. area have come to the defense of the nation’s first black president because they feel Obama is getting a raw deal on the health care debate, while others say they are tired of watching “fanatical” white people at town hall meetings scream at congressional leaders and refer to Obama’s health care plan as “socialism.”

Many black folks in D.C. – who supported Obama overwhelmingly in last year’s election — believe the aggressive town hall participants are all plants by Republicans — and they might be right.
