I think some of yall got some stuff wrong here. First of all we are not in a depression but a recession (two consecutive quarters where gdp has declined). We are no where near a Great Depression. Avg unemployment rate is about 10%. During the Great Depression far more Americans were out of work. Americans couldnt afford to heat their homes, food, let alone clothes on their back. U had long bread and soup lines. This recession is no where near close to that.

Second, although i hate the way Bush handled Katrina, he did not cause this recession. Yes, he caused a trillion dollar defecit with the war but did the necessary thing by givin tax cuts to businesses. In the summer of 2001 the economy was in a mild downturn only to be worsen by 9/11. Bush gave the necessary tax cuts and our economy was humming along till 2007 when coincidentally the Dems took office.

Third, this country was built on a capitalist economy. The free market is what has made this country a great country. Now Obama and his cronies want more control over that market. They want more control over your lives. They got a boatload of taxes ready to shove off to the hard workin Americans and small businesses. The economy will not recovery quickly by doing this. Give hard working Americans and businesses tax breaks and see how quickly the economy bounces back.

Finally, Obama is a marxist, socialist, and ideolog. He has an agenda. That agenda doesnt include helpin u but empowering himself. He is no different than any other politian. He has suckered the black people into believing he will cure everybody’s problems. I couldnt vote for him cause i knew he was playin black people for fools.

The reason why we are no where near a great depression is due to the fact that the Govt and FED has been propping up the foundations of the economy with Billions of dollars of bailout money…GoldMan Sachs, Bank of America, have posted 2nd qtr profits…but lets keep in mind, both of these companies were insolvent a few months ago along with AIG but were bailed out…Same with the auto makers..The headline unemployment rate is at 9.6% but the real unemployment rate is 16.5%..These liars don’t even count all people who are out of work into their national average…check the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and look for the U6 unemployment rate and you will see The real unemployment numbers…Maatra is dead on when he says we are living in a constant illusionary state!!!!

why people try to measure this depression to the great depression. There are to many differentials to them.

1. The stock mark crash in the Great Depression (GD) but the market deflated in Today Depression (TD)

2. Companies in the GD felled on their face, TD had help to stay a float.

3. GD was not for seen, TD was seen and could have been prevented.

4. GD could not be fix in a year or 2, TD it could been fix over night by my theory and plan.

See when u get a nation where they dont read or believe in what the boob tube tells u then u will be mess up for life and get bam by the rich.

To UnderStandinMan….the only problem with your statement is the market has not felt the full brunt of this crash yet…would appears to be a bottoming out is really only a band aid…there are still billions of dollars of toxic assets in the system that has only been suppressed to this point…Also keep in mind, there are millions of Option arm mortgages ready to reset this year which means the housing market/mortgage backed security market HAS not bottomed out…500k people are still losing jobs weekly with no real end in sight..I think its too soon to compare this era with the GD, we will have to wait until everything has panned out, before we can definitively say which era was worse…I suspect, if this era is not as bad, it won’t be that far behind!!!

It’s difficult for me to make sense of some of the “intellectual” comments when they’re so stupidly written. If you’ve learned (via reading, I presume)anything about politics, the economy, etc., then you should’ve picked up on grammar and spelling along with comprehension of the subject matter–but I’m assuming that’s the natural path people take when educating themselves.
