Never in any election have you seen a President be disrespected in the degree that President Obama has. As a young, black republican, I think Obama is doing a pretty damned decent job in almost every aspect of his office – except on domestic economic policy and the execution of the Bailout and what i see as an eerie fortelling of something far worse than socialism.

Thanks for your post! As a white person who voted for Obama (and who has read our nation’s history) I agree that many ‘teabaggers’ are driven by irrational hate because of race.

Racism started because people wanted a free lunch–they wanted to claim superiority over all non-white people, latinos, chinese, japanese, etc, so that the capitalists could slave them, charge them lower wages, so that white workers could claim their unfair superiority and claim higher wages.

Same thing–capitalism drive for profit, all these things bring out horrible nature of men and women.

The economy is doing bad now, these people are frustrated and will look to blame wherever/whomever they can. So they blame the mixed-race president.

Although I am a firm believer in self responsibility I do think all the undercover hidden racism that most of the whites have shown since the 1960s is coming to light now. I read a study that said 90% of the whites who responded to that survey have some type of negative sterotype about black people rather its the “lazy” sterotype, “violent” sterotype, “different baby momma/daddy” sterotype and I think they hate the fact that the Obama family is the All American family that for so long was portrayed by the whites. What I have noticed is throughout history with all our marches and protest and sit-ins a certain % of white people talked about change very passively. They talked about “blacks having all the opportunity to be President” but they said it very passively as if “yea they have the opportunity but it will never happen” and then it happened and its like they are shocked because of it. I think only a small % of the white population still hold extremist positions when it comes to the black race but its enough of a percentage to deserve widespread attention. That certain percentage of whites always view black families as that single mother households with the father being dead, in jail, or just AWOL and the mother surviving off government assitance and working two menial jobs to put food on the table and with the Obama family its like their sterotypes they taught their children is just not true. Both Barack and Michelle have college degrees from prestigous schools and they have provided a very healthy lifestyle for their children and they are representing that “All American” that for so long has been portrayed as “white only” and I do think some “Old South” mentality whites have a big problem with that and they cant wait for the first story to break about trouble in the Obama family or some kind of controversy. The percentage of the white population who puts that big smile on their face when talking to a black person and try to pretend to take a Liberal position on something they are now showing their true colors. How many of our youths teachers were at the “tea parties” holding up “White Slavery” signs. America was a country built on the foundation of racism and people think racism is a dead issue since nobody talks about it but the truth is nobody talks about it because they are afraid of backlash so they harbor ill feelings. However, I think once Obama has been in office for 2 years and people realize he wont be “picked off” people will start to get used of it. Obama’s still fresh in his historic Presidency and some people are still surprised.

Whenever I watch Fox News or hear rhetoric against our president, they never talk about his policies; they just spit some quick catch phrases to get people riled up. Our economic and domestic problems didn’t begin on Jan 20th when he was sworn in: they began with the last president! Sure, you can criticize his plans, but if you don’t have any other alternatives (I have yet to hear a die-hard conservative offer one) then you really can’t talk smack about the one guy that is trying to FIX the MESS you helped put this country in. That said, I don’t believe Pres. Obama is the savior of the country and the world: he’s just one man. What we need to do is stop hating on him because of his skin color, cultural differences, and any other shallow excuse (like giving the Queen of England an iPod SHE REQUESTED) to persecute him and either show some solidarity as a country or come up with a more effective idea, together. When George Bush was president, I defended my country with pride, for every american reguardless of race. Now that Barack Obama is President, I will continue the same. He is the Commander and Chief of the free world.

It is very obvious, especially to black people and certainly even to some white people that the one and only reason that we are seeing these reactions from the media, other politicians and citizens is that they hate, hate, hate the fact that the President is black. They do hate him because he is black and for no other reason but most, if not all, of them are too cowardly to say so.

I agree with this article. I found this Tea Bag protest extremely hateful. I was shocked to see those photo’s of those racial signs….all because the likes of Glen Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh. I I fear that this kind of talk and action will step up the likes of hate groups. I am thankful that Homeland Security has put out this alert. I place total blame on those “talking heads”. Putting aside the racial tone of those protests, most of the people do not even understand why they were there. The tax issue the millionaire talking heads used as an excuse for these protests doesn’t even apply the 99.9% of those protesting. The majority of those people were not people who make $250,000 or more. So why were they even protesting? Because the talking heads told them to do it and they did. I will never understand these peoples way of thinking. Barack Obama is now our President and all Americans should be respecting him whether they agree with is policies or not. I am white and worked on the Obama campaign for nearly a year. I fought for him winning the Presidency because I knew he was the right man for the job. His platform and issues were everything I believe in to help America heal and regain our respect again. He has not let me down and he has not let America down. Every day I am so proud of our President but I also am praying harder for his safety every day.
