The Grambling State Tigers took on the Prairie View A&M Panthers Saturday at The Cotton Bowl in the Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic. After a three year losing streak and multiple team injuries, Johnathan Williams, a redshirt junior, came through with a promising performance leading the Tigers to a 26-20 win over the Panthers. The game was indubitably close through three quarters with Grambling taking lead into the final quarter.

The annual State Fair Classic, held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas TX, is an event that brings out thousands of people to celebrate the long history of rivalry between both historically black institutions. In addition to the game, fans and onlookers got to experience a battle of the marching bands, a riveting half time show turned dance competition featuring the creators of the new hip-hop dance craze: “Crank That Nae Nae,” and a pre-game concert featuring Grammy award winning artist Fantasia Barrino. Wendy Davis, a member of the Texas Senate and nominee for Texas governor, also made an appearance alongside Texas Senator Royce West.
