Dr. Daniel Hale Williams
This educator and pioneer heart surgeon, was born on January 18, 1856. Without anesthesia, Williams performed the world’s first successful open-heart surgery.
The Supreme Court ruled on January 12, 1948, that a state must allow Blacks to study law at state institutions.
