Black Director Wins Oscar For “Undefeated” H.S. Football Documentary

TJ Martin, an African American director has won an Oscar for his documentary “Undefeated” about a Memphis High School football team that overcame considerable odds to have an undefeated season.

The movie was executive produced by Sean “P Diddy” Combs and Martin is the first African American director to win an Oscar for best documentary.

Martin also made history by becoming the 2nd person to drop an “F-Bomb” at the Oscars during his acceptance speech.

NEW YORK – Rap mogul Diddy and the Rev. Al Sharpton will speak at late rapper Heavy D’s funeral on Friday, and BET Networks plans a tribute for him at the Soul Train awards.

Diddy said in a statement that he was “heartbroken by the passing of my dear friend.”

“He was a wonderful human being, who inspired and paved the way for a Hip Hop generation,” the statement said. “We were like brothers — I will miss him more than words can express.”

A private funeral for the rap legend will be held at the historic Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, just north of New York City.

Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, died at a Los Angeles hospital last week after collapsing outside his home. He was 44.

The New York-born rapper was the titular member of Heavy D and the Boyz, which had hits with “Now That We Found Love,” ”Who’s the Man” and “Somebody for Me.” He was one of the genre’s top stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

BET also announced Monday that the Soul Train Music Awards in Atlanta will pay tribute to Heavy D, with Kurtis Blow, Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, DJ Eddie F, Whodini and Daddy-O of Stetsasonic participating.

Heavy D’s family has launched the Heavy D and Xea Myers Fund, named in honor of the rapper and his daughter, who’s 11 years old. The family said it was devastated by his death.

“Though Hev will most notably be remembered for his work both behind-the-scenes and in the forefront, he will always be remembered by us as a generous soul who remained humble and unselfish till his final days,” the family said in a statement.

Mary J. Blige, who started her career on Uptown Records, the label on which Heavy D released most of his music and of which he eventually became president, called the late rapper an “angel and protector.”

“He was one of the people in my life who always had something inspiring and encouraging to say,” she said in a statement. “He was so joyful and optimistic. … His talent brought so much joy to our lives. I love you and miss you, Heavy.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs quietly settled all civil actions against him for his alleged role in the 1999 club shooting that left a woman seriously injured, reportedly paying her $1.8 million.

Natania Reuben, 40, was the most seriously injured in the shooting, and still suffers from seizures due to 7 bullet fragments in her face.

Former Club New York owner Michael Bergos said that she was paid the most, $1.8 million. The two others who were shot received $500,000 and $50,000, court records indicate.

A rep for Diddy declined comment.

Reuben’s lawyer, Debra Reiser, also declined comment, saying, “My client wanted the confidentiality agreement because she didn’t want any further publicity. She’s been victimized enough.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Set To Guest On ‘Hawaii Five-O’

NEW YORK — CBS says musician-actor Sean “Diddy” Combs will guest star on an upcoming episode of “Hawaii Five-O.”

He will play NYPD Detective Reggie Williams, who arrives in Honolulu on the hunt for the men who committed a crime against his family.

The network said Wednesday that several of Combs’ hit songs will be featured on the episode, slated to air this spring.

Combs’ other acting credits include “Monster’s Ball” and an Emmy-nominated performance in “A Raisin in the Sun.”

“Hawaii Five-O” stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan. It regularly airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST.

Diddy Says G. Dep ‘Did The Right Thing’ In Murder Confession

New York– Diddy called into Sirius’ Shade 45 radio show on Tuesday (December 22) morning to talk up his latest effort, Last Train to Paris. But the rap mogul also commented on his onetime Bad Boy artist, G. Dep, who has made headlines in the last week.

G. Dep (born Trevell Coleman), recently confessed to a shooting and botched robbery attempt in 1993, only to discover from the New York Police Department that his victim, John Henkel, had died. Thirty-six-year-old G. Dep is now facing murder charges for the 17-year-old crime and was indicted on Tuesday.

“You could always feel that if you knew G. Dep, and I can’t say it was that, maybe something was troubling his soul,” Diddy said. ” ‘Cause he was real quiet. He’s the type of guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly. I don’t know what happened in that instance but he did the right thing and manned up to it.”

Diddy also speculated on what G. Dep’s state of mind may have been back in 1993, not long before he signed to Diddy’s record label.

“He had a real bad drug problem and that could have caused the situation,” Diddy said. “As a person, that wasn’t nothing that he would do. Drugs sometimes make people slip up and make mistakes.”

New York–An underground ad campaign for Diddy’s new album had some Manhattan commuters doing double takes Tuesday morning.

Signs at entrances to the Prince St. and Spring St. subway stations were convincingly altered to read “Last Train to Paris 12.14.10,” the artist’s newest album, released this week.

Just Curious: P. Diddy Can't Own An NFL Team Because He's Young And Black?

With recent talks of rapper-turned-mogul Sean “P Diddy” Combs interest in buying an NFL Team, a NBC contributor wrote a very humorous yet controversial article titled, Imagining A World Where Sean Combs Owns an NFL Team. Writer Drew Magary points out that NFL owners are “the oldest and whitest of old white guy clubs”, and “are wary of a young owner with a dubious legal past and considerable media notoriety”.

Magary notes that P Diddy would bring some “pizazz” to the league but doesn’t seem to take the notion as a real possibility– should we as Black people take offense to these statements about the would-be first Black NFL team owner? The National Football League is now over 60% African-American players, why is the ownership 100% white? Is Black ownership in the NFL a possibility?

Magary states:

On his own, he doesn’t possess anywhere near enough free capital to buy an NFL team, which costs about a billion dollars on average. There’s also the issue of NFL owners, the oldest and whitest of old white guy clubs, being wary of a young owner with a dubious legal past and considerable media notoriety.

But Diddy is dreaming big. So let us dream with him, America. What would an NFL team look like were it to be owned by the erstwhile Puff Daddy? I imagine the team would adapt the following features:

-Team relocated to East Hampton

-Fish eye camera used on stadium Jumbotron at all times

-No more cheerleaders. HONEYS. Lots of honeys.

-All offensive and defensive plays openly stolen from other teams, and from Sting

-No one in stadium allowed to make fun of Diddy’s underbite

-Admission price for Jennifer Lopez and family doubled

-Parking spaces widened to allow for customized Escalades

-All players forced to point skyward after scoring to acknowledge Biggie

P. Diddy Sued For Age Discrimination

A 51-year-old music executive known as “the Mom” or “Auntie” at Bad Boy Records is suing Sean “P. Diddy” Combs for $12 million claiming that she was fired for being old and disabled.

Francesca Spero says in her lawsuit that she is “renowned for launching the careers of various urban music figures, including Combs” but had a falling out with him after being laid up with hip surgery in 2008.

“Francesca Spero opened the door for Combs’ career and, now that she’s 51, he showed her the door at Bad Boy,” said her attorney, Laurie Berke-Weiss of the law firm of Burke-Weiss & Pechman.

Spero says that she first met Combs, in 1988 and began working for him a decade later — during his “Puff Daddy” phase. She says that she helped sign new song writers, get music clearances for corporate endorsements, execute Bad Boy’s $38 million deal with Warner Brothers and produce the MTV reality show “Making the Band.”

Their partnership, however, began to fall apart two years ago when she underwent surgery to treat a hip misalignment, and he allegedly said she could no longer “run around” and earned too much money for “someone who could no longer keep up with his fast-paced lifestyle,” according to her lawsuit.

Eventually fired this March, Spero said her replacement was a woman about 10 to 15 years younger who “lacked the skill set and experience Spero brought to the position.”

In hindsight, when I saw him I shouldn’t had done the interview because I know the style of interview that he does . . . The whole thing about giving a Maybach to my son, that’s really like a racist question.”

“You don’t ask White people what they buy their kids,” he continued. “And they buy ‘em Porsches and convertible Bentleys and it ain’t no question. It’s really a racist question and put things back in perspective with money and the way that people still look at you. And I’m not saying that consciously he’s a racist. But he probably don’t even realize that he would not ask Steve Jobs that. He would be like Steve Jobs has that money and that’s the gift his kid is supposed to get.”

Then to make sure that we didn’t miss the diss he added, “The American People”.

Look man, we don’t have no European class system over here. There’s no Duke or Duchess of Jacksonville, Florida. We don’t wear those funny outfits or powder our faces unless we’re partying in Greenwich Village!

We wouldn’t do it. We knew this day would come. And now that we have a Black president that can pay you guys back for trying to con us into a suicide mission that would have only benefited ya’ll, it’s time that we get some getback.

Trending Topics on Twitter.com are phrases that are arbitrarily created by users, to collaborate and discuss certain popular topics, jokes, or quotes. Every tweet Reverend Run posts is true wisdom. You can expect numerous tweets a day that can truly uplift your spirits. His tweets are personal and authentic, so authentic he possibly types them from his bathtub like he does on his hit show Run’s House. Whether you are religious, spiritual, or worldly, his messages speak to people of all walks of life. I honestly think he might be the most re-tweeted, re-quoted person on Twitter, and rightfully so.

Please do not let anyone tell you she is merely one of the most powerful WOMEN in the world; she is one of the most powerful PEOPLE in the world. She once tweeted about how excited she was to meet Maxwell, while also promoting her many platforms such as the end of distracted driving.

While many rappers have shed negative light on the hip hop industry, Diddy promotes entrepreneurship, and never has become complacent in his rise to super stardom. He shares his life in his tweets, from business ventures, to family issues. He is so passionate about everything he does, from signing a multi-million dollar contract, to tasting a new dish, his excitement makes me aware that he truly appreciates the supporters, and the luxuries of his hard work. Diddy does everything extravagantly, and does it all.

Dr. Hill is currently a professor at Columbia University, but his celebrity is growing due to his unique passion for the proper representation of Black people, as well as his analytical prowess. You may recognize him from his many debates with Bill O’Reilly, particularly their debate about the negative connotations in describing Barack Obama as an “articulate” Presidential candidate. He has proven he can debate any one and win, he’s unarguably the Floyd Mayweather Jr. of academia, and even strikes an uncanny resemblance to the boxer. Recently Hill addressed Slim Thug via Twitter, on Slim Thug’s disrespectful remarks about Black Woman. The two traded words and the story became a headline on many gossip sites. Not only did Hill respectfully and intelligently confront Slim Thug on some of the issues that exist between black men and women, I must reiterate— he confronted a guy named Slim Thug!

P. Diddy's Sean John Gets Exclusive Deal With Macy's

Macy’s Inc. has signed a deal with Sean John, the trendy fashion brand founded by hip hop impresario Sean “Diddy” Combs, to be the exclusive retailer for its men’s sportswear collection.

The deal begins next spring.

The move, announced Tuesday, is the latest exclusive deal for Macy’s, which over the last two years has signed similar arrangements with such labels as Tommy Hilfiger and Ellen Tracy.

As part of the pact, Sean John’s men’s sportswear collection will be available online at macys.com and in 400 Macy’s stores with additional stores to be added. Currently, the men’s brand is in 375 Macy’s stores. Sean John’s men’s wear brand is currently being sold at such stores as Dillard’s and Belk Inc. Those retailers will no longer carry the men’s wear collection starting in October, according to Dawn Robertson, president of Sean John.

The Sean John brand generates sales of about $525 million from a variety of products including fragrance, women’s sportswear and outerwear. Menswear accounts for a big chunk of sales, said Robertson, declining to be more specific.

In an interview, Robertson said that the brand, founded in 1998, struggled in recent years, but over the past six months, the business has seen a resurgence as the company has reinvented its fashions and found a broader audience.

“It was a difficult decision” to pull out of the other stores, Robertson said. But she said Macy’s plans to focus on increasing sales within each of Macy’s locations and eventually expanding to all 800 Macy’s stores. As part of the agreement, Sean John will get more prominent placement in advertising and will move to a more visible area on the selling floor, she said.

Squeezing time between his two television shows, rap entrepreneur and former Howard University student Sean “Diddy” Combs has added his voice – via Twitter – to the student protests currently taking place at his alma mater.

Some 350 students and union workers filled the plaza outside the Howard University’s Mordecai Johnson administration building Friday morning to rage against a litany of problems, including on-campus housing, delays in financial aid payments and labor practices.

Although classes at Howard started on Aug. 24, thousands of students have yet to be validated in the system, which means they can not register for classes. There are also a reported 500 to 1,000 students who were promised campus housing but did not receive it.

Combs, who balanced an internship at Uptown Records in New York while attending Howard in the late 1980s, sent tweets of encouragement to his fellow Bison for nearly two hours on Friday.

One read: “NO JUSTICE! NO PEACE!!! Let me know if yall need me to come down there yall! I got yall BACK! Let’s go!!!”

A follow-up Tweet stated: “Do what we did and take IT OVER!!!! Let’s go! And do it in a peaceful way but DO IT!! … If your at HU go to the A building now and make sure they feel you!!! And send me updates!!! Let’s go!”

Meanwhile, service workers joined students on the picket lines to protest the school’s employment practices.
