The two girls used the N-Word and mocked African Americans for being on public assistance,not speaking properly and made gross generalizations about Black people. The video went viral after it was posted on WorldStarHipHop.com.

Police officers had to sent to the school after the two girls received death threats because of their racist video. Both girls have issued apologies and have been said to be in hiding and in a state of depression.

The latest example of this disturbing but increasingly common phenomenon comes from Chicago, where police Wednesday arrested seven teens who apparently did just that. Their video had gone viral and led to their arrest within just days of the Sunday afternoon attack.

The practice, some experts say, is a modern twist on the age-old human penchant for boasting about one’s exploits to impress the community at large and to warn perceived rivals that their group is more powerful than others.

“Medieval warriors putting the heads of their enemies on sticks, scalping and even school yard brawls in the ’50s — they’re all ways of displaying that dominance in public,” said Pam Rutledge, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based psychologist who heads the Media Psychology Research Center. “These new tools — the Internet, YouTube — just let you spread the word much farther.”

Throughout the more than three-minute video, the attackers — many with sweat shirt hoods over their heads and some wearing masks — are seen yelling at the visibly terrified victim, punching and kicking him in the face with apparent glee as he curled up on the snow-covered ground. Police believe the lone girl involved lured the victim to the alley on the city’s South Side.

The urge to post incriminating material online, whatever the underlying motivation, might say as much about someone’s shaky grasp of how cyberspace works.

“These guys are bragging online without understanding they just provided irrefutable evidence of a crime,” she said. “It says something both about their naiveté — and their stupidity.”

Speaking to reporters after the arrests in Chicago, Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy noted that episodes of youth violence ending up in online videos have become more frequent everywhere.

“This is a national epidemic,” he said. “It’s not something that’s particular to Chicago.”

He also expressed bewilderment about why the teens decided to post the video, thereby incriminating themselves.

“I think it’s all part of the same dynamic where this is what kids do today, which is ridiculously stupid,” he said.

The Chicago teens were charged in the beating and robbery of a 17-year-old high school student in an incident that stemmed from a previous dispute last October, police said. Police said the posted video helped to identify the alleged attackers.

One teen was charged as an adult. The rest — a 15-year-old girl, two 16-year-old boys and three 15-year-old boys — were cited in juvenile delinquency petitions. All face one count each of robbery and aggravated battery, including the teen who recorded the video.

A striking aspect of the Chicago video is just how at ease the attackers seem to be with being filmed. One attacker even pauses from kicking and punching the victim’s face to calmly instruct whoever is holding the camera how to compose the shot. He then walks back and resumes pummeling the boy.

Viewers who posted comments online identified the alleged attackers by name, including 17-year-old Raymond Palomino, who appeared in bond court Wednesday, his head bowed and looking ill-at ease. His bail was set at $100,000. Palomino’s face is visible in the video.

Police said the attackers stole shoes, a wallet and $180 in cash from the victim, who was treated at a hospital for a laceration to his lip, bruises and abrasions.

Another website provided an outlet to fan the flames leading up to the attack.

Raymond Palomino’s father claimed Sunday’s beating followed an after-school attack on Raymond and another boy. Michael Palomino, a Cook County sheriff’s deputy, said incendiary comments posted on Facebook after the alleged beating of his son contributed to the situation spiraling out of control.

“They’re making it sound like he did everything,” Palomino said, speaking to reporters following his son’s initial appearance in court Wednesday. “It’s just one side of the story.”

The sheriff’s deputy, who said he turned his son in after seeing the viral video, conceded what his son did was wrong. But he also accused prosecutors of exaggerating his son’s role.

The video-recorded attack on a teen in Chicago isn’t the first to attract attention on the Web. In 2009, footage of the fatal beating of a 16-year-old honor student was circulated worldwide.

In that video, captured by a cellphone camera, Derrion Albert is seen being punched, hit on the head with large boards and kicked in the head. The fight broke out after classes were dismissed at a high school on Chicago’s South Side.

Four teens were sentenced to lengthy prison terms last year in that case, which sparked outrage around the country. A fifth suspect tried as a juvenile was ordered to remain imprisoned until he turns 21.

The most recent incident was different in that the attack was videotaped by someone apparently affiliated with the attackers. The Albert attack was recorded by a bystander.

That these latest attackers beat the victim and uploaded the video to YouTube not only illustrated their immaturity, it also suggests they are deeply insecure, somehow calculating that the stunt would boost their social standing, Rutledge said.

If that was their thinking, they badly miscalculated.

“They are getting the opposite reinforcement that they intended,” Rutledge said, citing the arrests. “They put it up to show how cool and tough they were. Instead, it left people thinking, ‘You guys are complete idiots.’”

Producer Andrew Fischer has gathered more than a half-dozen YouTube stars for “The Chronicles of Rick Roll.” He is shooting the film and has released a trailer online. The 26-year-old Fischer calls it an “epic comedy.”

The film stars Dodson, known for the Bed Intruder Song, Bear Vasquez (“Double Rainbow Guy”), Brian Collins (“Boom Goes the Dynamite”), Ben Schulz (“Leeroy Jenkins”), Gary Brolsma (“Numa Numa”), and Stephen and Jack Quire (“Greatest Freakout Ever”). Together they account for hundreds of millions of YouTube views.

Although the film’s title refers to the misleading Rick Astley Internet meme, Fischer says the film is authentic.

“The next trailer will show that it’s not just some giant elaborate prank,” Fischer says.

The film is being shot on hi-definition digital. Fischer hopes for a theatrical release, but has not secured distribution. The Colorado-based marketing firm NURV, of which Fischer is CEO, is producing the film.

“Our goal is to utilize the fan base and the celebrity status that these household names have, even though they’re not in Hollywood, in order to produce something that maybe changes the way Hollywood looks at casting,” says Fischer.

Fischer says he would welcome cameos from more Internet stars.

NEW YORK – Antoine Dodson’s dramatic reaction to a local crime has spawned the most-watched YouTube video of the year, excepting music videos.

When Dodson, a 24-year-old Alabama student, gave an angry TV interview about an attempted rape against his younger sister, he became a viral hit. When a video turned that rant into an auto-tuned song, “Bed Intruder Song,” Dodson became a full-fledged Internet sensation.

The “Bed Intruder Song” is the top YouTube video of the year, the Google Inc.-owned company announced Monday. YouTube added the view counts for two versions of the video, which put its total at over 61 million views.

YouTube separated commercial music videos from their top-10 list. Otherwise, all the top 10 videos would have been by either Justin Bieber, Shakira, Eminem, Rihanna or Lady Gaga. With more than 406 million views, Bieber’s video for “Baby” trumped all others.

As she joined a growing number of people who have persuaded courts to unmask troublesome cyber ciphers, Carla Franklin said Wednesday she hoped her case would help others combat similar problems.

“The Internet cannot become a safe haven for harassers and stalkers,” she said in an e-mail.

Google Inc. declined to comment. The Mountain View, Calif.-based online giant says it doesn’t discuss individual cases to protect users’ privacy, but it follows applicable laws.

A Manhattan court ruling issued Tuesday gives the company a couple of weeks to provide Franklin with identity and contact information for the person or people who posted denigrating comments and unauthorized videos of her, beginning last year.

The videos, posted on Google-owned YouTube, were clips from an innocuous student film in which she had appeared years before, coupled with personal information about her to create an unsettling online shrine, she said. Franklin did some modeling and acting before becoming a consultant to nonprofit organizations.

The comments, made though another YouTube channel, featured a sexual slur and were posted alongside videos she made for Columbia Business School while earning a master’s degree there, she said.

The postings were humiliating, creepy and potentially hurtful to Franklin’s professional prospects, she and her lawyer have said.

Franklin said in a blog post of her own this month that she believes she knows who’s responsible, but she went to court last summer to get proof so she could potentially pursue further legal action. Her court case didn’t involve Columbia.

US Weekly is reporting that Antoine Dodson, who gained overnight fame after his rant against rapists appeared on a local TV news broadcast, has bought a house with the money he made from the “Bed Intruder” song, an auto tune remix of his rant.

Antoine Dodson — the 24-year-old Alabama native who became a YouTube sensation after he chased a would-be rapist from his sister’s bedroom — tells UsMagazine.com he is moving his family into a safer home.

Luckily, he tells Us, “We made enough to move and get a house.”

Black sports blogger, JR, who runs the popular sports blog, JR’s Sportsbrief, will be one of 12 podcasters who will receive the opportunity to have a live Youtube stream on a daily basis. Earlier today, his stream went on Youtube and he received a fair amount of responses.

YouTube, the world’s largest video site, has pretty much been on the sidelines when it comes to broadcasting live video streams like websites Ustream and Livestream. But Monday, it’s putting its toe in the water with a live video test that runs through Tuesday. If it works, YouTube hopes to have much more live video in the future.

“We think of live as the next chapter in online video,” says Joshua Siegel, a YouTube product manager.

Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett said he was “just having fun” when he and his brother filmed a YouTube video about “Black Olympics” and said he does not expect the episode to warrant discipline from the Cowboys.

Bennett drew scorn earlier this week from Kansas City Star columnist Jason Whitlock for his video, in which he and his brother Michael, a rookie for the Seattle Seahawks, competed eating fried chicken and watermelon and drinking Kool-Aid.

Bennett told the Michael Irvin radio show on Monday that he didn’t intend to offend others, but doesn’t think the video was racially insensitive.

“I don’t really think it’s offensive,” Bennett told Irvin. “It depends on your sense of humor and how you look at things. We were just having fun and it was very funny for me and my brothers, when I look at it I just can’t stop laughing. If someone takes offense, I apologize. That wasn’t my intention. It was just us having fun.”

Bennett told Irvin he would not have a problem with a white person acting out something like the “Black Olympics.”

Domino’s Pizza says it has fired two US employees who posted videos online of themselves behaving “inappropriately”.

Domino’s added that the affected franchisee had filed a criminal complaint against them and there were warrants for their arrest.

One of the videos, viewed on YouTube, appeared to show a staff member putting cheese up his nose and breaking wind on salami while preparing food.

Domino’s said it apologized for the actions of the individuals concerned.

Google Inc. said Monday it will block U.K. users from watching music videos on its popular video-sharing site YouTube after negotiations with Britain’s music royalty-collecting body broke down.

Google said it would begin blocking British users starting Monday night. The Internet titan said it knew the move would cause “significant disappointment.”

But it said its hand was forced by PRS for Music, which it said is asking for royalties that would cause Google to lose money every time a video was played on YouTube.

“Our previous license from PRS for Music has expired, and we’ve been unable so far to come to an agreement to renew it on terms that are economically sustainable for us,” Google said in a statement. Until a solution is found, it added, “we will be blocking premium music videos in the UK that have been supplied or claimed by record labels.”

PRS for Music, which collects money on behalf of writers and publishers worldwide, said it was outraged by Google’s move.

“Google has told us they are taking this step because they wish to pay significantly less than at present to the writers of the music on which their service relies, despite the massive increase in YouTube viewing,” the group said in a statement.

Neither group revealed how much money is at stake in their negotiations.

YouTube has become an increasingly popular destination for record labels squeezed by declining sales for compact discs. The Web site has deals with three of the four major record labels but some rights-holders have balked at their cut of the advertising revenue.

In December, Warner Music pulled all of its music from YouTube, saying the payments it received did not fairly compensate the label or its artists and songwriters.

It was not clear how long the music videos would stay blocked. Both PRS for Music and Google said they hoped their dispute could be resolved quickly.

The video Leona Lewis’s “Bleeding Love,” licensed by Sony BMG Music Entertainment U.K. Ltd., which has garnered more than 83 million hits, was still visible from the U.K. late Monday.

There has been recent controversy over a brawl posted on the internet at HBCU, Cheyney University. A party at Cheyney University resulted in a massive brawl which was posted on youtube. Students were invited from nearby colleges Lincoln and West Chester. The party was promoted “Cheyney vs. Lincoln vs. West Chester,” according to Cheyney Student Body President, George Bush.

“It’s almost like a football season or a basketball season — you go as hard as you can and then you’ve got to take a breather between the seasons,” he said, noting he found it hard to go full-bore during the general election.

Israel posted video of its attacks on rocket launchers over the past five days on a new YouTube channel to try to show the world the threat against it.

But YouTube temporarily yanked the clips on Tuesday after viewers, apparently supporters of Hamas, flagged it as objectionable and asked that it be taken down. The video sharing Web site restored the video a few hours later, labeling it inappropriate for minors.

“The blogosphere and the new media are basically a war zone” in a battle for world opinion, military spokesman Maj. Avital Leibovich said Wednesday.

Leibovich said the new YouTube channel and a new blog the military is launching are an important part of Israel’s attempt to explain its actions abroad.

One of the aerial surveillance videos Israel posted shows about a dozen figures the military says are militants loading rockets onto a truck. They are eventually targeted by an air-launched missile and disappear in a white cloud as the truck explodes.

“We were saddened on Dec. 30, 2008 when YouTube took down some of our exclusive footage,” the military wrote on its YouTube channel page. “Fortunately, due to blogger and viewer support, YouTube has returned the footage they removed.”

YouTube did not immediately reply to an e-mail requesting comment. In the past, YouTube, which is owned by Google Inc., has been pressed to take down videos depicting violence. The site has no automatic review, however, so anything posted runs until a viewer flags it and asks that it be taken down.

In May, Sen. Joseph Lieberman complained that the process was flawed because al-Qaida recruitment videos could still be seen on the site.

The military says its clips have attracted more than 230,000 hits since going online Monday.

Israel launched the air assault on Saturday in response to rocket barrages launched from Gaza at Israeli towns. Hundreds of airstrikes across the Palestinian territory have caused huge damage and Gaza officials say some 390 Palestinians have been killed. Hamas says some 200 were members of its security forces, and the U.N. says at least 60 were civilians.

Militant rockets have reached farther into Israel than ever before, killing three Israeli civilians and a soldier.
