An Arkansas high school is making news over their refusal to allow a Black student to rightfully be valedictorian.
The student, 18-year-old Kymberly Wimberly, got only a single B in her 4 years at McGehee Secondary School.
Her mother, who has now taken the case to federal court, claims that the school board wouldn’t meet with her about what she calls discrimination against her daughter.
Wimberly said that despite earning the highest G.P.A. of her class, and being informed of it by a school counselor, “school administrators treated two other white students as heir[s] apparent to the valedictorian and salutatorian spots.”
