KINGSTON, Jamaica — Portia Simpson Miller has been sworn in for the second time as Jamaica’s prime minister after leading her opposition party to a landslide victory in national elections.

The 66-year-old Simpson Miller took the oath of office Thursday in a ceremony before thousands of guests on the lawn of the governor-general’s residence. Her 1½-year-long first stint in office ended in 2007.

Simpson Miller takes over from Andrew Holness, who was prime minister for a little more than two months.

Her People’s National Party won 42 seats in the 63-seat Parliament. Holness’ incumbent Jamaica Labor Party got just 21.
