Can A Non-Surgical Circumcision Device Help Fight AIDS In Africa?

Non-Surgical Male Circumcision Device To Fight AIDS in AfricaA device has been developed to facilitate non-surgical circumcisions in adult males which experts say could have a revolutionary impact on cutting the spread of HIV, according to a report in GOOD. PrePex, the tool from Circ MedTech which requires no injected anesthesia, is being regarded as a way to fight AIDS in Africa.

A 2007 study from the World Health Organization found that male circumcision can reduce the HIV infection rate from women to men by about 60 percent. The report concluded that if 80 percent of males in 14 countries were circumcised by 2015, the effort would result in 4 million less HIV infections at a savings of $20 billion. Since countries in Africa have high infection rates and low levels of circumcisions, organizations such as WHO and UNAIDS prioritized populations in that region.

However, the success rate has been low with only 5 percent of WHO’s goal reached in Kenya. Several factors have made it difficult including there being few qualified surgeons, governments like Uganda’s not being on board, and men not willing to go through with the surgery.

But Circ MedTech’s CEO Tzameret Fuerst says PrePex could change all that. The device has three rings that are placed on the genitals to stop the flow of blood to the foreskin. The procedure can be administered by nurses, takes about a minute and is painless. After one week, the skin becomes “like fingernails” and can be removed with blunt, safe scissors.

Fuerst compares the difference between conventional circumcision and what the procedure’s like using PrePex.

“One message is come get circumcised—the procedure entails injected anesthesia, bleeding, a surgical procedure and post-healing time,” she says, “versus telling a man: ‘You’re going to go through something that is virtually painless, there’s no blood, there are no needles, and you can go back to work.’ Now think of the impact on uptake.”

The innovation is patent pending and no country has bought the device yet. (The device is not for sale in the US.) Rwanda has approved it after clinical trials and its health minister Anges Binagwaho has written in the Washington Post that it can be a great thing for her country. And Zimbabwe has begun testing.

Still, PrePex is just one method. HIV prevention counseling has to go hand-in-hand with any effort to fight the disease.

    Circ**cision was introduced by a group of Afrikan Black Hebrews called the Lemba!

    Now, a white boy has come up with a device that is ‘non-surgical’!!! If these caucasoid mad scientists didn’t inject AIDS in my people, they would not be dropping like flies! We all know AIDS was a man-made dis-ease to wipe Black people off the planet!

    The only way to reduce HIV transmission is to EDUCATE people on protection (i.e., condoms!) Circ**cision is just damaging and doesn’t reduce the transmission rate unless everyone uses protection. This is just barbaric.

    The 1971 flowchart of the mostly secret U.S. Special Virus program depicts the development of a “Special Virus”. The ESP-1 virus was developed in accordance with the 1971 flowchart’s “research logic”. The ESP-1 virus was produced, purified and concentrated by Special Virus contractor, M.D. Anderson Hospital of the University of Texas.

    The AIDS activist from Normal Heights has sued the United States for allegedly withholding secret reports that he says prove the government created the deadly disease in a secret program designed to kill African-Americans.

    Should had go to the ONE who first PLANTED this diesease to the masses….and I do no BELEIVE the Africans did this…unless they engage in UNSAFE, risky sexual activity…..other than that, it might had been PLANTED on them, IJS…..

    Mark my words: circ**cision will greatly increase the rate that AIDS spreads in Africa. Circ**cision removes the foreskin – an organ that (in the last ten years) has been shown to contain anti-viral agents that fight HIV. The studies that form the basis of the push to get Africans circ**cised have been soundly discredited, yet Africans are still being sold this scheme by people who should know better.

    If circ**cision prevented AIDS, the US (where circ**cision is common) would be virtually free from it, while Europe and Asia (where circ**cision is almost unheard of) would have a serious AIDS problem. The opposite is true.

    Sure it’s non-surgical. It has a rubber band that crushes the foreskin into a groove in a plastic ring, causing it to die and drop off. Here in New Zealand we’ve been using a similar device for decades on sheep. It’s called the Elastrator.

    The studies in three villages in Africa found not “about 60%” reduction but “up to 60%” (and down to zero – of the 5,400 men circ**cised in all, 64 got HIV, 73 fewer than a similar group left intact. The whole claim hangs on those 73 men). Another study started to find circ**cising men INcreases the risk to women (already at greater risk) but they cut that one short for no good reason before it could be confirmed.

    The great danger is that even if circ**cision has some effect, men will think it makes them immune and throw caution to the wind. Where men can believe sex with a virgin will cure AIDS, talk of circ**cision being “like an invisible condom” or “like a vaccine” can only increase that risk.

    You are so right because there is no such disease out side of sickle cell that is so smart it only affect a poor black or gay people. IT is so smart it stays away from the rich and the all others. How about we also talk about the water and the environment that have been polluted by some of these companies in the name of exporting precious resources while it leaves the people dry of resources to live on. AIDs is also a by product of a depressed immune system which eating quality food helps to protect some from. People don’t know that people are also funneling GMO’s in the food market and yes lets not forget (I still have the article here) where the AfriKaans were injecting people with the virus…that part has been erased from the books and the media seems to conveniently turn a blind eye on this issue but its out there.

    this person is right Read a book called “Behold a pale Horse” If you dont believe this then I am sure you also dont believe that….genetically modified crops exist nor that the flu shot is worthless. I have never gottena flu shot and have never gotten the flu even when I am around sick people……There is something stornger than the flu shot that can help you not get the flu it’s called a healthy diet.
