if you read the article in its entirety, you will see that, in fact, this bridal-kidnapping is practiced equally among protestants, catholics and muslims in ethiopia. again, it’s not about religion, it’s about CULTURE.

My homegirl told me that YEMEN is the jumpoint point for this stuff, so every time you turn around, it’s a new location. I’m not sure I believe it, but I’m sure the issue itself is happening. It is, however, interesting that I’ve never met one Ethiopian who felt comfortable being in the same room with an African American. I’ve not met one who felt she/she wasn’t superior to an African American, and I don’t know where the fuk that comes from, but I’m sure it’s more from the Muslim ones than the non-muslim, but because of those attitudes, don’t expect many African Americans to care.

I wish more people, mainly you, would learn to read English, properly. I met/know many Ethiopians, and since I met many, part of conversation leads people to know who they’re talking to. Part of conversation might lead you to discover what faith they are of. You ever think about that, or if your conversation limited to 40oz, weed and boning w***es? Just because you’re limited ass can’t understand what conversation involves, don’t limit me to your limited world. So using what I know, I know many of the Muslim ones hold a standard about themselves, which they feel African Americans don’t match. Thus my statement. I dated an Ethiopian girl when I was in high school. She was two years older and in college already and she never came off as being arrogant, but it’s all on the individual. I only heard about the whole kidnapping thing being staged and it being a “traditional” thing. Then again I also recall that happening in another part of Africa. In college I wrote three papers about AIDS and the social and economical conditions that are destroying people lives in Africa.
Kidnapping and raping women is also a cultural problem in Rwanda, Kenya and Central Asia.

You also have militias/army’s and men/villagers that would kidnap females especially young girls and rape them because some believe this would prevent them from catching AIDS. I watched Night Line years ago when the anchor was speaking with the ladies. They told him that their husband and families shunned or disowned them because everyone would know, where ashamed of them and they could be infected with AIDS. Some families where forced to watch their mother or wife being raped by multiple men. A large number of females did contract AIDS because they were raped.
Just look at the genocide that occurred or is going on in Darfur/Sudan and Rwanda
The life expectancy of a few countries in Africa will drop to 30 years of age unless the people change. I want comment on that half breed nonsense. The men need to start respecting, protecting, treating and supporting the women and kids.

This is a horrible barbaric practice and stories like this are absolutely heartbreaking.

Some of the responses, really show how ignorent and lost we are…..This is a major tragedy, and definitely isnt limited to Ethiopia, or Africa in general. Religion, and the lack of humanity has played a major role in why this kind of madness goes on. What shocks me, is how so many remain silent about these things. Im reading Infidal by Ayaan Hirsi Ali now, which speaks on the situation not only in Africa but also through the world. Women are looked at as second class, much like African Americans once, and still are in some circles.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like Africans in general go bananas over a piece of azz. Everything they do, getting some azz is the core reason for it. They cut a little girl’s privates and sew them up at a young age, why, so another man cant get at their piece of azz. They marry various women, more azz. Take over another tribe or their country, get some azz first.

Ethiopia is not the bridal kidnapping capital of the world and I think black people need to do research before they comment. When you do that research check the older history books because the newer ones tend to change and rewrite history just to have blacks at odds with one another.

Yall remember the story of the eight year old in the news a few years ago right that ran away from her husband by this time she was ten though she was eight when her father sold her and she manage to divorce him because she said he abused her…google it it was in the head line news. Ethiopians did not sell US into slavery. They sold other Ethiopians and East Africans into slavery in the EAST(India,Middle East,East Africa).

As far as people getting mad because they dont want to be talk to us, how many Africans do? Almost all of them think we are ignorant and dont want their kids around us, because we act ignorant on television.

For the most part, they understand the struggle and are a part of it, but Africans (like Obama) will never fully realize our experience because they know where they come from and their ancestors were not slaves here. If Africans and African Americans were separated in the census, they would surpass Whites/Asians in all the POSITIVE statistics.
