This article is BS. Continue to donate to Wyclef’s foundation. There isnt an ORGANIZATION out there…NOT ONE. that gives 100% of their donations. Unfortunately for Wyclef $1 out of $5 is no where near standard. Anything less than at MINIMUM one half of a total donation going directly to the good of the charity is not accepted in the non-profit world. Foundations and charities risk being shut down for spending more than half of their profits on expenses. So, this story, if true is unfortunate. That’s not to say that I don’t have some serious respect for him getting right in there to help. He’s trying, and he’s sincere. Just hope he cleans up his books in the immediate future.

I don’t know if this scandalous report is true, or not, but what I suspect is that some Cracker has gone to great lengths to dig up dirt on Wyclef to divert funds from Yele Charity into their own greedy little hands. Wyclef and his wife are in Haiti removing festering human carcasses from the streets with their bare hands. Wyclef has consistently insinuated himself in the fight to aid Haiti economically, socially and politically. SIDEBAR: I get so bloody livid when news reporters refer to Haitians trying to stay alive as looting… Nobody in their right mind could possibly expect them to leave water, food, warm clothing or provisions in a store window when they are trying to stay alive. If this had happened in an European nation, this derogatory verbiage would not be employed. It is sickening.
And finally, do not just have an opinion, put your money where your mouth is: have a charitable heart and help. If you cannot afford to give money, donate canned goods, or even gently worn shoes. Whatever you do, be more than just a mouthpiece, take action.

Irresponsible reporting. A whole bunch of implications, but no evidence Wyclef is pocketing the money that people have given for relief efforts. Also, lots of celebrities start a foundation but never make it fully operational. But, by having it ready, it makes it easier to do what he’s doing now because you don’t have to waste time just getting the paperwork going. Be very careful who you donate to and make sure that its to a reputable organization that has a proven track record of helping those in need. There are scammers that see an opportunity to exploit this tragedy for their own greed.

I hope that you are aware that they are comparing apples to oranges with this slander. When they speak of percentages going to the people, you have to think “percentages of what?” If one organization receives $10 and their over head is $5 than that means 50% of the donations go to overhead. But if a company receives $50. and their overhead is $5 than they 80% of their donations are going to the people. This is what they’ve done with Yeli, comparing it to organizations that make 100 times as much in donations than they do. In order to do a comparative study, you have to compare apples and apples, or oranges and oranges, not apple and oranges.

oh did i say, i doubled up on my donation through Yeli because of this slander? They’re not naming any inept other organizations, so why are they picking on the haitian organization? maybe because they want the money to got through the other channels and doesn’t want the haitian organization to handle its own money’s. Everyone wants to be a savior, but never want to allow people to save themselves.

First and foremost, we should all be very careful when donating money to these organizations. There are many people out there using this time of need to make a dollar. With that said, I do not believe this is what is happening with Wyclef’s organizations. This organization was set up long before this tragedy. In addition, I used to be a tax preparer for tax exempt/not for profit organizations such as this one and one thing I learned is that ALL (at least the one’s I came in contact with) not for profit organizations spend a lot of money to keep their charities/or whatever you may call them going. You have to think of it as a regular business. These organizations have employees that they must pay to carry out the day to day activities and they also have the everyday expenses of keeping a business going. Just because we donate money to them does not mean that all of that money will go directly to the people they are trying to help. As long as they can show the IRS that the money they are receiving in is going to supporting their Mission (including employees, etc) then they are usually ok.

When in Doubt, donate to Dr’s without borders and the Red Cross

I donate thru a christian charity organization and have for years..becuz they are transparent and at the end of the year if you are a regular donor..you have the right to see IRS tax papers with regard to donations recieved..plus you can get credit on your tax donations. Haiti, what happen there was horrible.. however.. i f**king donated $35 through yele but i did not know that this guy is an ass whole by nature . but my question is why the news did not publishe this scam earlier to avoid people to give through his web site why ?. i think if this ass whole use that money to cover his own expenses one day he will be poor than the haitien themself mother f**ker (making money behind displaced and poor back this IS A TRUE SHAME FOR REAL SHEET SHEET)
