In Vietnam, feeding a dog large amounts of rice, roasting the animal and eating the rice from it’s stomach is considered a delicacy. Dogs are domesticated pets of high regard here in the Western world and a nutritious source of protein in others. Without a better understanding of the local customs/social standards in her native country, who are we to make judgmental statements?

I was just posting on the updated story (they found the girl who did it) that this may be a case of a poor rural family dispensing of sick animals in a way that is common in rural or farm communities.

She may be used to animal death, and that may have been why she didn’t take the task as somberly as we may have. But I am not willing to get over emotional without the facts. It may not be financially possible for this family to dispose of the puppies at a vet. It is easy to judge the girl when we sit back eating steaks or chicken or whatever, but have little understanding of the process that it takes to get the meat to our plate.

If she is a farm girl, she is used to dealing with death so that we may partake of meat. As for the puppies, she actually isn’t torturing them…drowning ! = torture.

Have you ever been close to drowning? The experience of having water in my nose was terrifying and life-threatening to me when I took a swam at South Beach. I thought I was going to die. It felt like I was in the movies; I was very close to death. Anyway’s there is no excuse for this girl’s behavior. If the dogs were sick as you said, this is NOT the way to get rid of them.
