The First Family is pretty excited about the newest addition to their family: The Obamas welcomed a year-old velvety-black Portuguese water dog named Sunny (pictured right) in to their family, according to the White House.

The girl stunner is the same breed as the Obamas’ cuddly pet Bo (pictured left), which was a gift from the late-senator Ted Kennedy.

Both dogs are a type of breed that accommodate the First daughter Malia’s allergies. Since Portuguese water dogs are an active breed with a robust coat that requires regular maintenance or grooming, their dander (allergens) is washed away more frequently.

Sunny’s older sibling, Bo, has played quite a pivotal role in the White House goings-on besides providing hours of enjoyment of frolic and play for his family.  The adorable little pooch has visited patients who needed cheering up at the famed Walter Reed and the Children’s National Medical Center, inspected holiday decorations at the White House, and has even greeted guests at the White House on tours and during the traditional Easter Egg Roll.

Mrs. Obama, who seemed thrilled to have Sunny join her family, tweeted:

The President and First Lady also plan to make a donation in honor of their latest arrival to the Washington D.C. Humane Society.

Welcome, Sunny!
