The Michigan State Spartans are known for recruiting some of the top players in the country, but this past week, we have seen the Spartans’ 2015 and 2016 recruiting class reach a new level. If you ask, I think Spartan fans have plenty of reasons to be excited for the future.

On Wednesday, Michigan State gained a commitment from Houston Kinkaid (Texas) 2015 offensive lineman Tyler Higby, who chose the Spartans over LSU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Miami (FL.) among others, that he also received offers from.

With this commitment, Higby becomes Michigan State’s 11th verbal commitment for the class of 2015, joining Michigan State’s other 2015 offensive lineman commitments Kyonta Stallworth (Detroit King) and Noah Listermann (Cincinnati Winton Woods).

According to Allen Trieu, Higby’s visit to East Lansing back in July with his mother, who happens to be Michigan native, had a huge impact on his decision to commit to Michigan State.

He visited East Lansing earlier in July as part of a family vacation with his mother, a Michigan native. What started out as a chance to see family because a trip that will define Higby’s future.

“Ever since I got back, it has been on my mind, how great it was and how much I loved it,” he told Spartan Digest’s Mike Wilson. “I talked to my parents a lot (Wednesday night) about the whole situation and it just felt right.”

A big part of the comfort on that visit was the coaching staff, led by offensive line coach Mark Staten and head coach Mark Dantonio.

“With Coach Staten, just the second I walked in the room he seemed high energy and like a really good coach,” Higby said. “Same with Coach Dantonio; I went in there with my mom and my uncle and one of my friends and we all came out saying he seemed like a great guy. That is how I felt about everyone there.”

As I mentioned before, this is good grab for the Spartans. At  6-foot-5 and 285-pounds, Higby is extremely versatile seeing that he can play just about any position on the offensive line. If that’s not enough, for someone of his size, he has quick feet and speed, according to his highlight tape, he ran a 5.06-second in the 40-yard dash. While that may not seem like a big deal to some, trust me it is, because when you consider the type of talent he will face at the next level, he will need those quick feet along with his great strength.

Overall, I would call this a good commitment for the Spartans and fans should be excited about the young offensive line that the Spartans will be bringing in.

Keep in mind that the Spartans great pick-ups don’t stop with Higby. The Spartans gained another commitment on Friday afternoon, this time from four-star receiver Cameron Chambers from Timber Creek High School in New Jersey. He announced his decision on Twitter, choosing Michigan State over his other top four finalists Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama and Wisconsin, making him the first player to commit to Michigan State’s recruiting class of 2016.

If your wondering, why he decided to commit so early, considering he has two years of high school left ahead of him, Rob Hinston, who is Chambers head coach at Timber Creek told Scout.com that Chamber’s decision to stop his recruitment was not all about football.

“He had some goals he set for himself, academically,” Hinson said. “Be over a 3.0 (grade point average) this year and he wants to go higher next year. He wants to enroll early (January 2016), so he has some goals he set. One of the major goals is selecting a school so he can graduate early and improve his GPA even more and then learn about his school. He wants to go in and play.”

At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Chambers is already a great receiver. In his sophomore season, he reportedly caught 57 passes for 1,196 yards and 12 touchdowns. If you look beyond his impressive stats, and look at this film, you will see that Chambers is strong receiver with plenty of muscle, making it hard to take him down in the open field. Then if that’s enough, he is also a great and preside route runner, with good hands, athleticism and speed. I don’t know about you but I think the Spartans have themselves a true gem.

Keep in mind that, I’m not the only who feels this way about Chambers. Timber Creek head coach Rob Hinson told Scout.com that he sees Chambers as a good fit for the Spartans.

I think Michigan State is a great fit,” Timber Creek coach Rob Hinson said. “Obviously, I’m a big fan of (defensive coordinator) coach (Pat) Narduzzi. We built a pretty good relationship, even though I haven’t sent him any guys over the years. I think very, very high with him.

“Even coach (Mark) Dantonio, I had an opportunity to meet him, and the program itself, I like their hardcore, bare knuckles, no frills style. They’re successful.”

“Obviously, his size, his route-running (stand out),” Hinson said. “He’s catching the ball better now and he ran track and got more explosive. He’s a pretty complete receiver at the high school level. He’s become a more explosive athlete where he’s not longer just a big 10th grade kid with a great body. He’s really an explosive kid right now.”

I don’t about you, but I would call this a great week for the Spartans and the scary thing is that they are only going to continue to get better from here on out.
