I have done genealogy research since 1997. I have found some of my ancestors in wills and inventory lists. It didnt make me cry. I knew that they were slaves, I just wanted to find the doc**entation for my own research.

Not everyone knows the details of their ancestry. Our ancestors went through hell living in America and it’s understandable that if after a generation or two no one wanted to talk about the horrible past.
Don’t forget there were also a lot of secrets that were kept and sometimes going back through history answers some of those nagging questions when your genealogy doesn’t quite make sense.

Africans like Europeans are defined by their nationality which is different from religous labels. Some reformed Jews have abandoned taking issues w/the Torah as literal. The Hasidic want to preach being ‘chosen’ and those coming from descendants of the Halocaust want to reduce the teachings to political mythology. Even they turn their backs on some of the power and control issues being put out by controlling rabbis. The teachings fall apart at Mt. Sinai. Those there were the ‘chosen’ but didn’t want to hear Adonai, booming in their ears.
God and Moses had that conversation that goes, “thems your people not my people, oh hell no I ain’t claiming them kvetching fools either.” If you look at the wholesale slaughter of those at Sinai by Moses’ thugs, there’s no way to make sense of that. i think what shocked me the most with this story…is not so much that he got upset…because it is healthy to show emotion…but i guess what shocked me the most is that he was shocked that his ancestors were treated inhumane? i mean reading some of the stories it really was like an african holocaust…kinda like the aids epidemic in africa today…but that’s another conspiracy and story for another time…but i’m just baffled that he is shocked that his ancestors were ‘bred’…i mean most were killed, maimed, and sold off in front of family members at the time….maybe it’s just for publicity for that show…because i’m just really having a hard time believing that he needed a dna test to tell him he’s from africa and his ancestors were slaves that were abused!!! really it’s sad if this is some sort of exploitation of our history for ratings for a show…

LOLOLOLOL!!! Things like this are sad but true. When I told a young black woman that George Washington owned slaves, she was floored. She said “but he was the president. Didn’t he know that was wrong”.

All nationalities need to dig and find out their history, because it will never be told right if you get it from your high school text book.

I watched the part of the show where he was looking for marriage licenses and he was shocked to see the books labled “whites” and “coloreds”. Then he was even more shocked when the woman told him that the records of “coloreds” were kept sporadically and he may or may not find what he was looking for. I was trying to figure out why he was so shocked at the “whites/coloreds” thing because Emmitt Smith is about the same age as my mama so I know he remember the separation from the 60′s. If my mama remember it, he gotta remember it.

One day school books, history books, and historical television will show the realness of slavery and diaspora. I don’t mean the Roots version of slavery either – I mean just show how f**ked up it was. Go all Amastad “boat ride”. If they can show the realness of the Holocaust, like that is more important that slavery, then they can show what it was really like to be an African slave in this f**ked up ass country. Maybe one day everybody will learn what it’s really like to be black in america not just hear individual stories and chaulk it up to some “well just because it happened to you don’t mean it’s happening to everybody” bulls**t.
