This is fine to some extent. I just wonder what is in this for the President. I don’t pretend to know the legal procedures involved or how much time he had. If time would have permited….I would have “tabled the issue” until after the election. Then could have shut down some of these neo nazi/ white supremacist / anti government sites And some of these other distractors that daily use the internet to insult the first family, send negative pictures, force some sites to clean up their acts, and to retaliate against the haters.

The President is smart. If I remember correctly, the only times President Obama “compromised” was when a time deadline had to be met and failure to compromise would have harmed millions of Americans.

The Republicans, on the other hand did not care about the masses of Americans – They exemplified several times that protection of every penny of the top 1% of wealthiest Americans that own 40% of this country’s wealth, is more important to them than the masses of Americans.

The first thing Obama did was send more of our boys over, and then started bringing some home – which left the same amount overseas.

The only reason that they’re starting to come home now, is just because we’re being forced out (they said that if we don’t leave then our troops will be subject to their laws.) So don’t give Obama too much credit there.

The war in itself was never declared, and therefore illegal (albeit he was left with that, so I won’t give him all the blame, but will blame him for not ending it sooner.) Not to mention He committed an illegal act of war in Libya (the drone attacks were NEVER approved by congress, which is a requirement to declare war, or make an act of war when war was not previously declared.) He also bypassed required processes and just went ahead and appointed people to committees. Not to mention his illegal Recess appointments.

Obama supported the Patriot Act (by extending it,) and he passed the NDAA which gives them the right to detain citizens without trial, based on suspicion alone. He also rejected the Keystone Pipe line which cost America thousands of potential jobs. Not to mention his support of the Payroll Tax cuts that did not make a huge difference on our paychecks , but did and will make an impact on Social Security. Furthermore, his health care reform is unconstitutional – the part where it forces people to get ins. or else….It’s not like car ins… You can op out of car ins. by choosing not to drive; you don’t have any type of opt out for health ins.

Don’t fool yourself – Obama has no respect for our freedoms, liberties or constitution.

Please bring something of substance to the conversation rather than making a juvenile attempts at humor. Your poorly thought out one liner is neither amusing or witty.

The election of a president is something that should be taken seriously, and if you are going to vote, it is your responsibility to make an informed decision.

I’m not going to tell you who to vote for, but at the very least make an effort to appear educated on the matter, or at least show that you’re able to converse with people on an adult level.

Unfortunately Ron Paul probably won’t be running against the President so Obama Still gets the vote. Even if he(Paul) did somehow win the GOP primary I would still vote for Obama because I think he’s done well by my vote so far and deserves to finish. Technically, SOPA won’t pass. It is effectively killed by this. Obama would veto it if it came to him, and there’s enough anti-SOPA in congress that they wouldn’t be able to override a veto.

Please, people, try to focus on the immediacy of the call to action ,(or at least discussion of ) and the need for awareness of which is the intention of the article. There is now an insidious move against freedom, of speech, thought, education, even health. We stand at a turning point in history. It is vital to protect your /our right to expression and access to education, These bills (and others current to be wary of include ACTA, NDAA) threaten the basic right to education, now is in danger of being limited to the “elite”, which is not synonymous with “wealthy” but more the selection of a few to be advantaged over others by restriction.) This threatens the ability for all people to be valued members of our societies, and this insidious move against intellectual freedom extends well beyond US borders. It is essential to protect free” (that is not controlled by government, extremists or business) unbiased (ie at least two opposing point of views , for and against) and independent (informed) interaction. The life blood ,and birth, of the internet is collaboration, rather than piracy .It is true some immoral decisions have been made, but again education is key to reach balance. I personally have been disadvantaged by copyright infringement , but the fact is that the project was completed, despite the required “slightly over 10% difference” (so avoiding intellectual property infringement) And I have learned from that experience, despite initial loss of money. Yes, in the short term I was hurt but I have pride that my “concept” (which in reality it still remained) was completed and reached a measure of success, which to be realistic in retrospect, I may not have been able to do if needed to finance by myself in entirety. Likewise with independent film making. and many areas of business that have benefited from open source “cross fertilization”. Also note I also do not consider free trails of software etc are enough, as again many will lose in the race for skill because of lack of money and other restrictions put on them and swamping people with advertising is not the answer either-especially those forced on us before having access to the news! I am not sure of the answers but I can see some of the questions and that those at the forefront of “connected experimentation” are our safety valve against apathy. US still is looked upon for leadership (currently) world wide and I stress it is important to realize effects of these bills affect all countries, peoples and cultures. Based on his history, Obama would have loved to sign SOPA into law. It is only because there is so much negative media coming around that he wants to at least appear like he is on the voter’s side due to an election coming around. i dont believe this- he was for SOPA before, and now he is saying he is not- just to get reelected… if he was really against it he would have promised to veto the bill if it had passed. but of course he wont do that.
