Student Kicked Out Of School For Blackface Aunt Jemima Costume

From The New York Daily News
A blackface Halloween costume has left one Long Island teen with a lot of egg on his face.
Commack High School senior Dean Jeziorkowski was ordered to leave school Friday after he turned up dressed as the black Aunt Jemima character.
Jeziorkowski, 17, refused to back down over the brouhaha, and his family refused to comment yesterday.
Fellow student Danny Cuevas, 16, who was out trick-or-treating in Jeziorkowski’s neighborhood, defended the teen.
“I don’t think it’s that racist,” he said. “At one point in time, that might have been seen as racist but not now.”
Jeziorskowski told pals he has dressed as a woman for Halloween every year since the third grade. The teen donned a bandanna and wig as part of his Aunt Jemima getup. He darted in and out of classrooms toting a syrup bottle, asking, “You want some pancakes?”

« Previous 1 21) No, it’s still pretty damn offensive, Danny. And as a minority (I assume) the fact that you don’t think it is…is almost as disturbing.
2) To all the people who say that there is a double standard when blacks dress up as white, you’re 100% correct…the practice should be stopped by all.
3) Somebody has to ask this…why is a 16 year old still trick-or-treating??
So let me get this straight. Danny Cuevas said “I don’t think it is THAT racist. At one point in time, that might have been seen as racist but not now.” So I guess the 16 year old Danny Cuevas is an authority on what is racist to black people huh? Seems to me that the interviewer should have been asking a 16 year old black child whether or not he/she was offended instead of an hispanic. I knew a guy with the last name Cuevas when I was growing up and he wasn’t black and I doubt this one is either. I’ll bet if Jeziorkowski dressed up as a derogatory hispanic/latino stereotype Danny Cuevas wouldn’t be saying anything. It’s always comical and absurd to me when non-black people tell actual black people what should and should not be offensive to black people. As if they understand anything that black people have experienced or gone through and are STILL going through in this country. I’m glad he was kicked out of school and his parents should be ashamed for raising such a dumb, racist child.
This is not racist, this is just a kid who is having fun.Us African Americans can’t always point out stupid s**t like this racist. So when Dave Chapelle or the Waynes brothers dress up as white people it is not a big deal. There was one person in our school who dressed up as Micheal Jackson with the baby blanket in hand and all, he even put the baby over the balcony. I had to admit it was funny as hell.
Just like a another year in our school we had a kid who dressed,as Osama Bin Laden. Halloween is all about getting creative and thinking out of the box. I really don’t think that this kid didn’t mean to offend anyone. Please some people just need to get over this nonsense and comment on something else important. Please people let’s not be so stuck up!
what the wyans brothers did was do what all black comedians do try to make us as black people laugh and try to do it before the white man does it. not saying the white man didn’t come up with the idea, about white chicks we will never know? but what that young man did was sick and outrages, i am a mother of mix children and i would not even let my children do s**t like that and they have seen both worlds. and for you guys to think that, it’s funny have to go back to school or even go to a black college and read what our people had to go through. there was not even an syurp lady that is how or grandma, dressed in those days as slaves, to take care of white peoples kids so get it right it is not funny and will never be funny to ME.
It’s really not that dificult to understand why so many Blacks are confused when confronted with issues of racism. The battle lines are not as defined as they once were. I suppose one could call that progress, but nonetheless, it doesn’t address the issue of whether racism still exists in it’s radical forms today. Now if you are one of those Blacks who would answer, ‘you don’t know, maybe so or if your answer is no I would simply say you are among the many who are confused.
Today most of what young people do are a direct result of what many of them have seen from the adults they grew up around. Considering the ages of those sporting Black face, I would simply tell you the seed has already been planted it just a matter of how and when the racist endocrination would manifest itself. When you see Blacks take part in such activity I will wager somewhere in the family tree there have been self-hating Blacks who didn’t mind what message they sent to the young around them and thus the message was passed on. You want resolution to our (Black men and women in America) problems, make healing of the Black family a priority. Encourage each other to put down the hatchet, forgive one another if only for the sake of the children. If not we won’t have to wait to see what the future for our people will be like. We are witnessing it today. Just my thoughts.
How can y’all compare facepaint (which still leaves portions of the face uncovered) and a Michael Myers mask to the mockery (and that’s where the roots lie) of blackface? I just don’t get these youngsters. Is it going to take a group of Nazi Hammerskins performing a curb stomp on your skull for you to realize that sh!te ain’t that sweet? Yeah, I saw “White Chicks” it sucked! I saw “Tropic Thunder” it swallowed…..guess which one got an award nomination although they were both comedies?
I dont think what the boy did was all that serious….True i dont think its funny, but i’ve never given credit to white folks for being ‘in touch’ with anything either. What he did could offend some, but again, he is JUST a white person…why am I NOT surprised…
idk wat it was about im not sure wat i think?? kinda. cuz white male dressed as blk woman of panckas box is just not cute or funny at all it can be a bit offensive. i would think the same if a blk male dressed up as just some old white woman so he can make fun of it all night its not funny its not a healthy costume im a parent and race aside i would not let my son offend or be offensive by dressin like a fool just to make halloween fun NO. have some morals ppl
Sub Negro you hit that one dead on the head.
Looks like 2 me he seems 2 b gay(he is been dressing up as a woman since the 3rd grade 4 Halloween)and does not know better, even through he 2 some degree has 2 had a idea that this is offensive 2 Blacks yet I have 2 say him running in and out of class yelling who wants pancakes is funny as hell.
am i the onlii person who saw whicte chicks?!?! thats okay but this is not? ya’ll killin me with the double standard
Wait when black comedians dress up as white people it’s funny but when white people dress up as black people it’s racist? WTF double standard FTL! And while i’m at it why don’t ya’ll start protesting Quaker Oats who owns the Aunt Jemima trademark.
pantherg08 is a mf slave!!! That BS is racist!!!
THATS NOT RACIST THATS JUST FUNNY!!!!!!
