New York — A new report released Thursday indicated that close to 90 percent of New Yorkers arrested for pot last year were Black and Latino.

More New Yorkers as a whole are being busted for marijuana, according to a new report released Thursday.

The NYPD arrested 50,383 people for carrying pot in 2010 – about 15% of all arrests for the year, according to the New York Division of Criminal Justice Services. According to the same report, there were 29,752 arrests in 2005 – 41% fewer than last year.

“New York has made more marijuana arrests under [Mayor Michael] Bloomberg than any mayor in New York City history,” said Dr. Harry Levine, a sociology professor at Queens College.
