NEW YORK-Cathie Black, New York Mayor, Mike Bloomberg’s, choice for New York City schools chancellor has resigned after a lot of pressure and controversy and a 17% approval rating. Black was a former magazine executive with no experience in education. The New York Times reports:

Ms. Black will be replaced by Deputy Mayor Dennis M. Walcott, an African American who has long aided the mayor in educational matters. A NY1-Marist poll released on Monday put Ms. Black’s approval rating at 17 percent, with 23 percent of adults not sure or never having heard of her.
