The victim, Shardae D. Wells, who is seven weeks pregnant, notified police after she and Jeremy P. Delapierre (pictured above), 25, the father of her unborn child and two older children, got into a violent altercation.

Delapierre accused Wells of infidelity in front of his family’s complex, and as they were arguing, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and tried to strangle her as he pushed her to the ground.

“I could not breathe,” the 26-year-old young woman told police. “I almost passed out.” She also showed investigators imprints on her neck, throat, and arm that she claims happened during the scuffle.

When Gainesville police arrived and they attempted to handcuff Delapierre, he ran from them. Meanwhile, reportedly angered by what Wells had done, Clara M. Young (pictured above), Delapierre’s mother, and cousins Jimmie L. Hart (pictured below) and Nathail G. Harrington (pictured last), reportedly attacked her by punching and slapping the pregnant woman in the face until she tumbled to the ground. Young then allegedly sat on the young Mother to restrain her while Hart and Harrington savagely kicked and beat her repeatedly as she lay helpless on the concrete using her arms to try and shield her pregnancy against the blows.

Police found Delapierre hiding out in a nearby apartment bathroom and arrested him.  When they emerged from the building where the suspect had been hiding, they witnessed Wells being beaten by the family members.  All three suspects were arrested.

According to police, Wells was unable to get up and was coughing up blood.  Her left eye became swollen and shut, her right arm and neck was cut and her nose was fractured.  Wells was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Delapierre has a previous arrest record for domestic battery and strangulation.  He is now charged with aggravated and domestic battery by strangulation, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.  Family members Young, Hart, and Harrington are charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and tampering with a victim.  All were booked into the Alachua County jail.
