UPDATED: 8/16/13, 3:05 p.m.: Darren Young (pictured right), who admitted that he is gay this week, revealed that his two-year relationship with lover Nick (pictured) encouraged him to come out of the closet, according to TMZ.

Young reportedly told Wrestling.org that he is “deeply in love” with his partner. Young and Nick are reportedly living together in Florida.______________________________________________________________

WWE’s Darren Young (pictured) gave TMZ’s cameramen the shock of their lives on Wednesday, when he revealed to them that he was in fact a gay man.

Young, whose actual name is Fredrick Douglas “Fred” Rosser, was exiting the Los Angeles airport, when he was approached by a TMZ camera crew who wanted to interview the wrestling superstar about gay men in his sport.

When Young, who is one half of the Prime Time Players along with Titus O’Neil, was asked whether a gay wrestler could actually succeed in the WWE, the 33-year-old supplied an answer that nearly floored the crew, Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy,” said Young.

Young’s coming out was done without fanfare, press releases, or news conferences. Instead, he simply responded to an inquiring reporter in a very nonchalant manner that he is in fact gay and was quite satisfied with his life.

When Young was asked whether he hoped to make some kind of difference by revealing that he is a gay, he responded in the affirmative, I hope so. I’m hoping to be able to make a difference. It’s very important to me that people understand that somebody’s sexual preference shouldn’t really matter. It should be about the person.

Watch Darren Young say he is gay here:

Young is in a machismo-driven sport where coming out as a gay man is not the norm.  In fact, he is quite possibly the first WWE wrestler to admit he is gay, and while there have been rumors of other gay wrestlers, no one else has come out so far.
