After defeating Toledo over the Thanksgiving break and extending their winning streak to three games, the Detroit Titans were expected to come back home to historic Calihan Hall. Calihan Hall and give the Bowling Green Falcons a tough loss. However, the Titans would fall short as the team dropped a 64-63 contest after visiting Bowling Green made a lay-up at the buzzer to give the Falcons the victory, forcing the Titans to lose for the first time at home this season and giving them an overall record of 4-3.
While it sounds like an epic ending for the Bowling Green Falcons, it was more of controversial ending, just ask any Titan fan.
After, Detroit senior forward Juwan Howard Jr. hit the go-ahead jumper with 2.4 seconds left to give Detroit a 63-62 lead. After sophomore Matthew Grant nearly stole the ball on the in-suing inbound play, many figured this game was over since they would only be allowed a second or less on the clock. However, the referees didn’t agree as bowling Green was given 2.2 seconds on the clock. It was with that 2.2 second chance that BGSU found Richaun Holmes, who dribbled to the hoop and converted on a game-winning, contested lay-up just before the buzzer.
After the game, Radio One Detroit Sports Editor Lauren Beasley and Detroit Basketball Insider Karic Jones sat down to talk about the controversial finish along with the other factors that contributed to the Titans losing to the Falcons. Watch below:
