The family of Kaleb Arkell Graves has updated the public with news about the status of their miracle baby, The Huffington Post reports.
Dana Griffin-Graves and her husband Arkell Graves posted an update on their Facebook page Sunday, revealing that Baby Kaleb remains in critical condition since Griffin-Graves gave birth at 24 weeks last Tuesday. Because of Kaleb’s early arrival, doctors have decided to keep him in the hospital for several months before he’s allowed to go home with his parents.
The couple is trying to see the bright side of their journey. For the first time, Kaleb opened his eyes and grabbed his parents’ fingers.
“It’s those little things that people take for granted that make us so grateful,” Dana continued in a Facebook post. “Please continue to keep Baby Kaleb Arkell Graves and our family in your prayers. Again, thank you for all of your prayers. They are needed and appreciated.”
They also celebrated his arrival while asking supporters for prayers.
The couple’s story went viral last month when Griffin-Graves surprised her husband with her pregnancy in an emotional video. Following four miscarriages and a stillborn, the family was unsure they would be able to have a child. After giving up, the Virginia native found out she was five months pregnant. Graves’ reaction to the big news was posted on YouTube and has been viewed close to 10 million times.
Griffin-Graves delivered the child via emergency C-section last Tuesday after doctors found that her blood pressure was abnormally high. The mom delayed the birth for as long as she could to help baby Kaleb survive.
Graves called his wife brave and selfless while fighting for their child.
You can help welcome baby Kaleb home via the family’s GoFundMe here.
