WASHINGTON – The first couple took in a performance of “Thurgood,” the play about Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, at the Kennedy Center on Friday night.

President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, sat in the president’s box for the sold-out performance.

Marshall was the first black justice on the high court. He is being played by Laurence Fishburne in the one-man show.

The production opened on Broadway in 2008 and earned Fishburne a Tony Award nomination.
