Authorities confirmed on Thursday that the skeletal remains found in Malibu Creek State Park belonged to the Cal State Fullerton graduate, Mitrice Richardson, who had been missing since being released from custody last September. The skull and bones were discovered in an abandoned marijuana patch in the unincorporated Monte Nido area at 1 p.m. Monday. The discovery brings an end to 11 months of an anxious, and at times hopeful, search.

Richardson’s father, Michael Richardson, is accusing Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials of allegedly mishandling his daughter’s case and wants sheriff’s official, Lee Baca, to take a lie detector test to find out what happened on the night his daughter vanished.

The 24-year-old Richardson, had been taken into custody on a citizen’s arrest after being unable to pay an $89 restaurant tab in Malibu.

“I’m not afraid to go against him and his disciples in the law enforcement and say we gotta do better,” said Mitrice Richardson as reported by the daily news.
