Rumors are swirling that former head of AOL Time Warner Dick Parsons will be asked to be Obama’s new Secretary of Commerce. Check out the latest on the controversy here:

From Michael Calderone at Politico 44:

CNBC’s John Harwood asks Obama about reports that he’s considering former Time Warner chief executive for Commerce secretary.

HARWOOD: “A couple of things quickly before we go. Dick Parsons going to be your next commerce secretary?”

OBAMA: “I have not made a final determination on who my next Commerce secretary is. When I know, I will let you know, John.”

HARWOOD: “Is he a candidate?”

Obama: “I have not–I am not going to make comments at all. Dick Parsons is a great guy, though, a good friend of mine.”

From Nikki Finke’s Deadline Daily blog:

Just a few weeks ago I was celebrating the departure of Time Warner’s Dick Parsons, the only top exec left who was responsible for that company’s disastrous merger with AOL. (I hoped the door did hit him in the ass on his way out.) Because, thanks to “Teflon Dick”, a lot of TW shareholders for more than a decade curse him every time they look at their drowning portfolios. Now Obama wants to let him sink the Commerce Department? Noooooooooooooooooooooo.
