The Dallas Mavericks took a 1-0 lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder on the backs of their star power forward Dirk Nowitzki’s 48 points.

The Mavs defeated the Thunder 121-112 in front of a raucous sellout crowd at the American Airlines Center.

Nowitzki reached an NBA milestone by connecting on all 24 of his free throws breaking Paul Pierce’s record from 2001 of 21.

For the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant wasn’t too far behind of Dirk with a spectacular 40 point performance. But, the struggles of star point guard Russell Westbrook from the field (3-15).

Game 2 is Thursday in Dallas.
