The pitchers duel was one day late with C.J. Wilson and Matt Cain battling for Game 2. What was expected in the first game of the series was provided for in the second game, Lincecum and Lee were far from sharp, but Cain and Wilson were as tenacious as one can be. For the first six innings of the game, the competition was fierce, as neither Wilson nor Cain would surrendered a run through the first four innings.

The game started pretty calm and uneventful up to the bottom of the 5th inning when Edgar Renteria hit a 388 feet home run over the left field wall to put the Giants ahead 1-0. The score remained intact until the seventh inning when Juan Uribe hit an rbi single that scored Cody Ross for the 2-0 score.

C.J. Wilson did a good job keeping the game at a feasible 2-0, but unfortunately, the game imploded on Derek Holland in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Giants rallied for a whopping seven runs in the inning crushing any hopes that the Rangers had of coming back.

The Giants began their rally when Holland walked in a run in the person of Aubrey Huff forcing in Buster Posey to score the 3-0. With the game slipping away, Ron Washington pulled Holland and replaced him Mark Lowe who walked Juan Uribe forcing Nate Schierholtz to score the 4-0. The following batter, Edgar Renteria singled to left bringing in Cody Ross and Aubrey Huff for the 6-0 lead. Michael Kirkman would come in relief for Lowe and was not able to stop the bleeding, as he gave up a triple and a double. Kirkman’s first batter was Aaron Rowand who hit a triple to deep right center scoring Renteria and Uribe making the score 8-0. As if a 8-0 lead was not enough, Andres Torres doubled to left bringing scoring Rowand before the inning ended for the 9-0 Final.

Matt Cain who pitched a spectacular 7 2/3 innings has been superb this postseason with a 0.00 ERA and posting an amazing 0.938 WHIP. For Cain this is his second shutout of the playoffs, shutting out the Phillies in the NLCS. C.J. Wilson also pitched a good game giving up just two runs in three hits in the lost.

With Giants taking a commanding 2-0 lead after taking both meetings at home the series now shifts to Texas for at least two more games, possibly three if necessary. Both teams resume action on Saturday at 6:57 PM EST.
