HOUSTON – A Houston teacher pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of improper photography for secretly taping female students in a school bathroom.

Craig McDonald, who was teaching American history and government at the Raul Yzaguirre School for Success at the time of the offense, was sentenced to four years’ deferred adjudication.

Prosecutors said investigators found video cameras in fake smoke detectors that McDonald had installed in the girls’ restroom at the school.

Investigators were tipped off about the activity by students.

“The way the case came forward is, several students noticed that every time a female student would go to the bathroom, he would become very distracted and he would immediately start focusing on a small screen that he had basically installed right next to his desk,” prosecutor Eric Devlin said.

McDonald was suspended from his job after the allegations surfaced.
