After Calvin Duncan was elected to be Orleans Parish clerk of criminal court, Louisiana’s state legislature hastily moved to eliminate the office.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has said he intends to sign the bill before May 4, the date when Calvin Duncan is set to formally take office. 

Calvin Duncan’s fight to be exonerated for a crime he didn’t commit has repeatedly put him at odds with Gov. Jeff Landry, who supports the bill. 

Calvin Duncan became a lawyer and legal expert during the three decades he spent in prison for a crime he would later be exonerated.
